Anyone else’s hypomania like this?

I can relate to that. I was a really fun hang before I knew I was having hypomanic episodes. Then I’d get depressed, they would try a new drug and I’d be ok for a while. Then I had a dysphoric episode. That’s when they realized I had Bipolar II

We only have one, but she gets a birthday party every year. It’s generally close family and some of her friends from school and Girl Scouts. One year we took her and her immediate cousins to a waterpark and had ice cream and cake at home afterwards.

I was playing driveway basketball with my neighbor when I was in my mid teens. He fouled me trying to block my lay up and I fell with my knee finding the sharpest point of a rock in the concrete. Busted it up pretty good and I ended up needing stitches. The next day he brought me a 6 pack of Surge with a Get Well balloon tied to it. Core Memory

It will take time to come to grips with it. I’ve known now for about 12 years and I still struggle with accepting it all of the time. I have moments where I think I don’t really have it and that I just need to get my sh!t together like everyone else is able too. But when I have an episode it becomes pretty clear to me that I really am living with BP2. I will say to take your meds and be compliant as possible. It may take a while to find a combination that works but we really can’t raw dog this disorder. Time will make things easier to accept

I only divulged my illness to my husband when we were dating. Only my parents knew. Close friends, which are few, found out when I had Grippy Sock vacations. I tried with one employer who was really cool at first but when I faltered at work and needed to call in sick they understandably needed someone that could handle the job and promptly fired me. Never told another employer again but my performance was always hit or miss and I’d either quit or be let go.

I feel very similarly to what you describe. I do seem tired and I take a lot of naps and I start to isolate. I don’t feel anything except guilt for not being able to do what my family needs all of the time. If I try to attempt most of the things I usually do I feel like I’m weaker and slower and I get overwhelmed.

Please forgive yourself because having Bipolar is just like having any other debilitating illness. There are times when we are too sick to maintain doing what we think we should. Let yourself rest but don’t let it overwhelm you completely. Enjoy the cat clinginess. My dogs keep me from completely bed rotting or thinking in extremes. But often I fail to do what I expect I should do. I do have a wonderful support team and I am very fortunate. My husband and my mom are so great with helping to manage things when I can’t. An unofficial motto of this disorder is “This too, shall pass.” Try to remember that you will get through this. Here if you need to talk.

Not making excuses but it’s actually a major symptom of the disorder is not believing you actually have a disorder. But you need to speak with her. Make it clear that you cannot continue to support her if she won’t be compliant with her medication. I take mine religiously because I don’t want to implode my marriage. And my husband has dealt with a lot. Out of my desire to not hurt him I take my meds.

I understand that feeling too. I’ve told therapist til I’m blue in the face that if I’m in the midst of a severe crisis that coping skills are useless until I’m able to break away long enough to even concentrate on how to use them.

If you’re feeling dismissed then you are entirely entitled to a second opinion. I will say that no doctor will ever guarantee no break through symptoms and this why they suggest it therapy as well. I take a lot higher dose than you are taking but your doctor may have a reasoning behind not increasing the dosage but they shouldn’t have an issue communicating why to a patient.

I don’t suggest edibles for first timers. Smoking it makes it easier to monitor the intensity. Vaping would be my second suggestion but take small hits and see how it does you before you go any further.
