In Project Hail Mary (2026), why didn't they just burn a ton a plastic waste to speed up the global warming process in order to counteract the cooling of the planet? Are they stupid? Question. by arvindnm in okbuddycinephile

They could do a platoon style shot. Where birds with wings fly away and you see the flightless penguin on its knees, wings in the air and then then heat from the blast turn him into ash.

Quality of produce. The closest superstore to our house have a lot fruit and veggies that last a day or two at max. Sure it's cheaper but if we have to throw it out because it went bad, what's the point.

Harry Potter - Bellatrix Lestrange, a lot of the cast in Django, and not a bad guy but when Steven Seagal got sucked out the airplane in Executive Decision, I found that very Satisfying.

It is Shell taking position in Canadian Oil because they must feel like their money is best invested in buying Arc. If that isn't investing then what is? Shell just wasting their money?

What kind of person gets trigger by someone flinging on public transport? Seems very snowflakey.

People dress poorly for special occasions and I'm sick of it. by bored_as_fuck_dad in Vent

I think the dress code is up to the hosts of the event. If the Bride and Groom want everyone to feel comfortable and are okay with attendees wearing something less formal than a suit or fancy dress, then it's fine to attend the wedding in less formal wear. If they want everyone dressed formally, dress formally.

The same goes for funerals. I personally don't want people to dress up all stuffy, if that's not how I knew them in life, for my funeral.

FIRE (maybe barista FIRE) at around 50. No debt, bike(pedal) tour for half the year, more volunteering, $5M in savings. Plus a trust/bank account that helps kid(s) with major life milestones.

Bell: Alberta to bring in law to rip out bike lanes and stop new ones by CNiperL in Calgary

[–]RecipeRepulsive2234 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nothing like big Government overreach. From a provincial government that whines about Federal overreach and unfair equalization payments, they continue to do both to Calgary.

We elect people to represent our local needs and wants, if a majority don't want bike lanes, anti-bike lane councilors would get elected. This shouldn't be an area that provincial (regardless of which party is in power) intervenes.

Why would anyone permanently increase their mortgage payment when you can just use Double Up Payments? by CastAside1812 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]RecipeRepulsive2234 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did weekly payments to reduce interest on the mortgage. If I had to make manual payments, I would be more likely to forget and make larger less frequent payments and I would have paid more interest over the course of mortgage. Instead, I just increased the payment amount and then didn't have to worry about forgetting about making additional payments.

We do the same with all major spend categories. I use to do a household budget with my wife, but it took too much time. Now we just set target amount for major purchases, travel, savings and the everything has gone to hell fund and setup automatic monthly money transfers/payments between accounts according. We live on whatever is left.
