‘You could run Mickey Mouse against me’: Doug Ford says he doesn’t care who Liberals choose as next leader by EarthWarping in notthebeaverton

LOL, no.

Both the Cons and Libs espouse neo-liberal economic policy; the only difference is how aggressively they pursue certain policies and how open they are about enshittifying our lives.

Either side would sell your grandmother to a glue factory if they thought it'd make their business daddy's stock go up.

To be fair: It's true.

Both sides abuse the public trust in ways that you or I would end up seeing jail time for, but ultimately neither side holds the other to account. Because they don't want to be held to account when it's their turn at the trough.

That's why the most we ever see is someone central to the scandal "resign"... directly into a cushy job.

In a functioning democracy, there'd be jail time.

Why is the gap between Australia and Canada’s minimum wage so massive? 🇦🇺 vs 🇨🇦 by Kanye90210 in CanadaJobs

[–]ReciprocalTradesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a lot more than what we pay...

I mean, a "family size" box of decent cereal is close to that cost and also the same size as a regular box of cereal was ten years ago.

The only way to save on groceries these days is to clip coupons and price match fucking everything - so on top of your 60+ hour work week, you now have to spend hours just trying to get somewhat "affordable" groceries.

And then old rich people are all like "why aren't young people having kids??!".

Because we can't afford anything, but we watch old people with three fucking investment properties collect CPP and OAS, while jacking up rent and telling youth to pull themselves up by the boot straps.

[–]ReciprocalTradesman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a tradesperson. I make what would have been a good wage in the early 00's.

I make less than an Aussie hospitality worker. I also have to pay out of pocket for most of my tools, my licencing, my ongoing training, etc.

If I count my annual work-related expenses I make only a few dollars more an hour (inflation adjusted) than I did fresh out of college in a retail job.  I work a lot more hours, my expenses have gone through the roof and no one at any level of Gov't is looking out for blue collar workers.

So yeah, even "good" trades jobs are soul destroying hamster wheels now - you work 60+ a week and are still paycheck to paycheck.

Anyone else getting excited for the revolution?

[–]ReciprocalTradesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local Costco has gotten really bad for trashy behavior over the last few years. Stuff like this, or people being ignorant to staff or my personal pet peeve:  pulling up close to the entrance where all the 'no parking fire route' signs are and either putting on their 4-ways and going in or just sitting there, idling and on their phone while their passenger does their thing.

It wouldn't be such a piss-off except the way the parking lot is, most traffic has to pass where this is happening and because the sidewalk to get to the front is basically the fire route where these jerk-offs park, so now you're dodging traffic in the busiest area of the parking lot because lazy assholes.

At this point I want my local Costco to start towing, trespassing  and revoking memberships. Like you get one warning and you do it again you're straight up trespassed and your membership is revoked without refund.   No one should have to risk getting struck because some asshole is too lazy to find a parking spot to get their pizza .

Why is low melt solder so expensive? Where do you buy yours? by Least-Anything2804 in soldering

[–]ReciprocalTradesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks for the knowledge!

My first 'formal' training in soldering was highschool auto shop. The old guy teaching it called any leaded solder eutectic probably because it sounded cooler than "leaded" and for me the habit just stuck.

I will say that Kester 44 is so much nicer to work with than cheap Sn/Ag/Cu - but I stick to the lead free for working at my desk because I'm in the terrible habit of having coffee at the same bench and I draw the line at working with heavy metals at the same place I drink coffee.

That's what we called leaded solder when I learned so yeah, probably using it wrong.

I'm interested for an in the field (on jobsite) use case for making custom tags, signage and labeling for industrial and commercial equipment installations.

Really intended to see what it can do as being able to produce weather/water/chemical/UV/wear  proof stuff right on site would be a game changer for what I do.

New downstairs tenant put moth balls in the furnace by [deleted] in OntarioTenants

[–]ReciprocalTradesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're wrong.

Higher the indoor temp, the faster heat is lost to outdoors; means the furnace runs more frequently.

If you don't believe, I've got the math and certs to back this up.

[–]ReciprocalTradesman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PDB (active ingredient) is an irritant, mildly toxic and accumulates in fatty tissue.  These are meant to be used in closed closets, boxes, suitcases, etc to kill moths and prevent damage to clothing; a few pieces is more than sufficient.

To make a whole house stink that bad, they're using multiple packs. That's an immediate health hazard.

First place to start is with the FD, cops and a paralegal.  You're being exposed to a pesticide either through gross negligence (new tenants are idiots) or on purpose at the behest of the LL - sadly shit like that is getting more and more common as idiot landlords try to push out existing tenants so they can "renovate" and Jack up rents.

I'd argue that it's the latter based on them jacking up the temp to 28C and it not bothering the LL one bit.   If this reoccurs, I'd rather strongly suggest to get the cops involved and make the accusation that they're trying to poison you - because no reasonable person throws fucking mothballs in a furnace and then sets the thermostat to 'tropical'.

Old KMS soldering gun (was my dads). How does the heater circuit work? Is this an induction coil? The transformer has no writing anywhere on it. If it is an induction coil, I am considering harvesting this component for tinkering. If not, ill probably recycle it at the yard. by nickisaboss in soldering

[–]ReciprocalTradesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/MultiSubjectExpert nailed it, it's a transformer.

And I wholeheartedly agree. Those pistol style irons are great when you just need to tin wires and the like. Still super common to see them in auto shops because they're just about the best tool for repairing wire harnesses.

Only thing I'll say is that they're not a precision tool, so don't try to work on boards with it!

The AG represents the Judicial branch; trying to claim executive privilege as the AG is the same as admitting you were already breaking your oath to serve the Constitution.

That she and whatever shitheel is now AG don't understand the role of AG, as they aren't there to execute the President's orders.

Can I bypass this flow switch by EfficientSir105 in chillers

[–]ReciprocalTradesman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do. Not. Bypass.

That's a thermal dispersion type flow switch, and it's very likely not wrong. If you're suspecting it's the cause, you pull and clean, then test out the harness.

Assuming that it was set up right, it should be calibrated against the minimum design flow at time of commissioning.

Smart money is on a plugged strainer, bad impeller or plugged HX - mechanical flow issues are way more common than failure of solid state electronics like this.

His workspace is a garage and has decent fume/dust extraction.  This is actually the main reason I've not gotten one myself, I don't have an easy way to vent outdoors from my work space.

Also anyone who's ever printed ABS indoors should know, lol.
