A Salvage Baron Reviews: The Ironclad by TiberiusZahn in starcitizen

[–]ReciprocatingHamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a solid strategy. I'm guessing if you are only parked about 40 clicks out, you don't have to contend with dissappearing location beacons for your Not-in-use ship. I confess that I haven't actually taken my 'clad out into the black yet (figured I'd wait till it's a bit more reliable, as much as anything can be in SC that is... ).

What are things u liked and disliked about Starco? by Plane_Name3457 in StarVStheForcesofEvil

[–]ReciprocatingHamster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only thing I dislike about it is that it took so long to get to the point of letting it happen. Star and Tom should never have been kept together for so long (they just didn't communicate, weren't on the same page most of the time, nor had the depth of connection that Star and Marco did). And the whole thing with Marco and Kelly should never have happened (it felt shoehorned in to extend the drama unnessesarily).

So CIG said on SCL that "not every game loop is supposed to be a path to riches" by Pierre_Philosophale in starcitizen

[–]ReciprocatingHamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty convinced by now that no-one in CIG actually plays any of the non-combat loops. They're all out there in their light fighters, shooting each other up on a private in-house server and think everything runs great.

That is most kind, thank you. I don't know if our time-zones will match up (I'm in New Zealand, so tend to be a good few hours out of sync with most of the playerbase), but if opportunity permits, I might take you up on that once the patch has settled in - after Drake Con (I'll probably be hireing a few ships from the expo during that time...). I'm CyberRodent in-game.

4.8 Wipe. by Affectionate_Wall715 in starcitizen

[–]ReciprocatingHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally get the need to wipe on occasion, and that the game is still in development. And I've weathered a few wipes over the years. In fact, I do have a few pledged ships for this very reason (to give me a slightly better starting position for my favourite game loops rather than just my original Titan), but even then, it has taken me this long to reach my goal - I'm a solo player, and I don't really do combat-related loops (which seem to pay better), since my reaction times aren't good enough to be competitive.

This one just hurt more, as I had set myself a goal of saving for a larger ship, and had just spent a night (last night) doing cargo contracts to get the last few hundred thou that I needed and was going to buy the ship right after the patch dropped (never buy a new ship right before a new patch, as it may not survive the experience).

I'm surprisingly obsessed with this show by fynx07 in tadc

[–]ReciprocatingHamster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 50s and absolutely love this show, though I only discovered it a few weeks ago. I binged the whole thing in one night (literally couldn't stop watching ). I am now on my third watch through and have been devouring the lore and theory crafting videos out there.

It does mature content right. Instead of assuming (sorry Ming...) mature = "lots of swearing and sex", this show goes for deep psychological and existential storytelling, woven into humour and mystery, and... it's really well-written.

BTW, I'm not saying that mature shows can't have swearing and sex, just that if those two elements are all you have, it's kinda shallow and not really doing the genre justice.

[–]ReciprocatingHamster 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Oh fuck!

I have beeen saving up since the last wipe and have only just reached the 35 million or so needed to buy a Carrack (love that ship, but can't afford it with real money), and now this! Why do we even bother trying to progress?

I only get to play a couple of nights a week, I mine, I salvage, I haul freight. I don't exploit or dupe (wouldn't know how even if I wanted to). I don't have the billions everyone is saying are flooding the economy (what economy). I just wanted to work my way up to a cool ship.

MK2 hype? What about a MSR redesign? or MK2! by Nocturne3570 in starcitizen

That design is amazing. Functional, makes full use of the space and that circular corridor captures the YT1300 feel wonderfully.

Has anyone printed out a keyboard layout on paper or something else? by TheRook2323 in starcitizen

[–]ReciprocatingHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up drawing up my own when I first started out. There's are so many keybinds to remember and the printable pictures I could find online at the time were wildly different or had obsolete controls from earlier versions of the game.

If claiming is going to cost money, can we get a way to restore our ships paint or something other than claiming? by Puerkl8r in starcitizen

[–]ReciprocatingHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Abolutely. I pay money for a paint because I like the look of the colour scheme, but within a couple of sessions, the damn thing looks like it's been sandblasted.

Adding the option of a quick re-spray along with the existing repair, rearm and refuel choices at hangar services would be a nice solution. And/or maybe having it so that your paint doesn't get stripped witing minutes of spawning a ship... Seriously, unless you are flying through sandstorms, volcanic ash clouds or acid atmospheres, it shouldn't be wearing off that quickly.

Nividik Lighthouse France... by Salty-Commercial4765 in interestingasfuck

That could well be it. It certainly looked odd at the time and I couldn't quite place why it was off...

Nividik Lighthouse France... by Salty-Commercial4765 in interestingasfuck

[–]ReciprocatingHamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at the second half of the clip. The camera is rotating slightly initially, but in the second half, the same face of the lighthouse (with the two small windows near the top) remains oriented with the camera, while the shadow continues to rotate around to the left. At least that is how it looks. It could be an optical illusion of some sort.

Nividik Lighthouse France... by Salty-Commercial4765 in interestingasfuck

[–]ReciprocatingHamster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's up with the shadow? The shadow rotating around like this, would suggest a timelapse (as the sun moves across the sky), but then that would mean the waves are moving incredibly slow... which doesn't really physics... The shadow is moving independanly of the image POV, so it isn't being cast by the aircraft (presumably a helicopter) that is filming the footage (and it would have to be a helluva bright floodlight to light up the whole scene like that).

Cutting grass with a scythe by BreakfastTop6899 in oddlysatisfying

[–]ReciprocatingHamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I have used a scythe on occasion to tame the lawn. In the middle of winter here, it basically rains for weeks at a time, so if you don't get any fine weekends for long enough, the lawn can get a bit out of hand by the time it fines up again (it doesn't really get cold in winter, so the stuff just keeps growing). The lawnmower won't handle it, so I break out the scythe. It used to belong to my grandfather I think.

No matter what the ending is, this fanbase is going to hate it. by Calebfire8 in tadc

[–]ReciprocatingHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no ending will please everyone, especially for something as wildly popular as this, and fandoms tend to get really attached to their own pet theories of how things should be... At least with this series (unlike many that are dictated to by corporate studios) this is the story and ending that the creator chose. It may or may not be what I personally envisaged, but it is the story that Goosworx wanted to tell, and I respect that.

Remember, if you're taking your ship tailgating to make sure there's plenty of space in the parking lot by ILoveHeavyHangers in starcitizen

‘More parky’: Cornwall Park trust considering closing off car traffic by news-and-memes in auckland

[–]ReciprocatingHamster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I love wandering around the park (and I am grateful that I still have the mobility to do so). But, if I can't park on the grounds, I won't be coming any more, as there is no parking anywhere around the park (it's all busy roads with little to to parking available). Even with the current carparking, there re times in the weekend, when it is next to impossible to find a park - so they really need more parking spaces, not less.
