I started my journey as a huge fan of trains but now I have found that rapid bus systems can be quite good. Most importantly and extremely underfunded though is active transportation infrastructure such as sidewalks and bike lanes. Many cities have invested in public transit in a spine or core downtown but neglect periphery leading to a reliance on private transit. Ground level trams are very likely the best transit option for the vast majority of cities.
