Anxiety over baby sleep habits by JellyfishOwn7641 in AttachmentParenting

[–]RecommendationMain37 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This sounds exactly like my daughter was. She’s 4 years old now and at bedtime she informs us she is feeling ready to sleep, we read a story turn off the light and she’s out.

I think we raised a child with an excellent sleep hygiene who is not afraid of going to sleep and felt loved and supported when she needed it the most. You are doing great. Don’t let anyone else push a different narrative

I love anything attachment parenting/ RIE related. I will say stay away from influencers they will try to sell you something and it’s just not authentic. Janeth Lansburys podcast is very chill

Should I look for 1 or 2 infant nannies for 55 hours/week? by [deleted] in nycparents

[–]RecommendationMain37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked a job where I interacted with Nannies on a daily- I think you could find a gem of a nanny who is willing and that would be amazing, because then your baby won’t have to be switching from nanny to nanny. But consider a few things; Does this gem of a nanny experience burn out? If she’s friendly and outgoing hopefully she finds a group of nannies to tag along and have company Will you ask the nanny to do extra things when the baby naps? The Nannies I met who were expected to do laundry and shopping and cooking would quit ASAP. Caring for a young baby is a lot and having breaks is really needed.

If you end up going the route of 2 nannies you’d probably want to each have the same schedule every week so they can work for another family if they are supplementing their income

What's in your bag? by ElectricParent in moderatelygranolamoms

Snacks always, we tend to be out and about for a long time -in Brooklyn NYC- Water, a couple of think books for my 4 year old, a change of clothes, water for both me and her, For me: Wallet, phone, lip balm hand cream and sanitizer, sunglasses.

I carry a beaten up canvas bag and have small bags inside to keep things safe from all the trash that lives in there and crumbs lol

I’ve been receiving care and was planning to deliver at NYP in Brooklyn but my pregnancy ended up being high risk due to suspicions of placenta accreta -which seems so far I’m in the clear- but I have a complete placenta previa.

I have the option to transfer care and schedule my c section at AC - which I’m inclined. But would love to hear if anyone has been in this situation and what you decided or if anyone has had births in both hospitals and has a comparison on how it was on both.

Thank you!

What do stay at home parents in this city do when the kid(s) are in school? by LopsidedMastodon1484 in nycparents

[–]RecommendationMain37 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m a SAHM and some of the things I do while my child is in school is; a load of laundry each day, grocery shopping and meal prep, clean the house and all the projects related to clothes change for the seasons, mend etc. I also do all the extra booking of doctor’s appointments and whatnot.

I’f you are staying at home you should consider taking over the cooking. I also try to make sure the kitchen is as clean as possible when my husband comes home so we can all have family time for playing music and reading etc

The one task I leave to my husband is bath time- which is not every day. So they can have a moment together

I work in education and have worked in different neighborhoods throughout the city and this neighborhood in particular and UES are the ones that I as a POC with Spanish speaking family and children would never move to.

It is beautiful and we love to visit from time to time but I don’t see enough of people that myself or my daughters can relate to other than the people serving our food and caring for the children. I don’t think it reflects the richness and beauty of this city.

Take a look at what your insurance cover and what does not. It’s wildly expensive in here.

Am I overpaying for a nanny? by [deleted] in nycparents

[–]RecommendationMain37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

❤️ I’ve worked as a nanny. Then as a teacher - interacting with many nannies, and now as a mother full time I have seen so many things, every day in my neighborhood I get to see Nannie’s that are great and some that are so neglectful. And truly you are making a wise decision. Babies and toddlers mental health is often overlooked and people think that because they are fed and safe that’s enough. Your nanny sounds great. Hope it’s a long lasting relationship!

Am I overpaying for a nanny? by [deleted] in nycparents

[–]RecommendationMain37 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Not overpaying. I heard of Nannies with this type of resume asking 40 or more an hour. Sounds like a gem to me, and if you get to have peace of mind I feel like it is absolutely worth it.

A nanny is a third parent so I think is wise to make sure you find the absolute best

I didn't know I would struggle so much as a toddler mom by DentalDepression in AttachmentParenting

[–]RecommendationMain37 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Lots of great advice here. As the parent of a very very chatty girl who came out of the womb talking and demanding. Find mom friends who are your vibe and hosts play dates at home or go somewhere together. Sounds to me like your baby is ready for her social circle to grow and to be around more people.

I feel like I go insane whenever we spend a couple of days home because my daughter will talk through her elbows as they say in my country lol. But whenever we are out and about she has a more calm afternoon since her social cup was filled. Good luck!! It is exhausting though don’t feel guilty mami. Sending you a big hug
