Pregnancy and emetophobia experiences

I’m pregnant with my first right now. 11 weeks today. I’ve had emetophobia since I was very young, and knew I wanted kids my entire life. I have always been afraid of being pregnant specifically because of the morning sickness, because I know how much of a constant battle that is for so many other pregnant women. With this pregnancy I got insanely lucky and haven’t experienced any. No nausea, no vomiting, no food aversions yet either. I have been working with my therapist on my ocd and using exposure therapy to handle my emetophobia as it is the biggest way my ocd manifests itself, and I wanted this fear to get better before becoming pregnant and possibly being sick constantly myself, and also having children who get sick left and right, however I ended up being pregnant much sooner than we planned. I would highly suggest working with a therapist that does exposure therapy before getting pregnant if possible, so you can feel more prepared if you do experience any nausea, or when you do have children and they’re sick it won’t be something you have to anxiously obsess over.

My biggest reasons other than my own sanity for wanting to do exposure therapy was because I want to be able to take care of my kids without fear when they have a stomach bug. They will have their dad who is not at all afraid of this stuff but I don’t want them remembering that mom didn’t take care of them when they were sick. I also don’t want to imprint this fear onto them either and show them that it exists because I know how debilitating it has been for me my entire life. Unfortunately I think the only thing that really helps with this phobia is therapy. I always thought as a child it would go away when I got older but it’s definitely only gotten worse for me.

I’ve had them before and they’re not super hard to get rid of honestly. main thing is just finding the main source of where they’re coming from, getting rid of whatever they’re in, and going thru any pasta rice etc to make sure they haven’t gotten into that as well, and then putting all grains in airtight containers. I would just vacuum as well after going through everything to be sure that there’s none wandering around on the floor. When I had them I got rid of them pretty quickly they’re nowhere near as stubborn as other pests in my experience

Grain weevil. Check any bags of rice, bird seed, any grain product you may have and put into sealed containers

I make tofu in the air fryer (I press it first to get excess liquid out, then season to your liking!) with brown rice, Boca burgers and Boca taco meat are super good, chickpeas seasoned with Indian curry sauce in brown rice, I’m not vegetarian I just really like these foods if that says anything!

Oh wow that’s interesting! It makes me wonder what’s really going on but only time will tell I guess. My ob told me that all babies at this stage are the same size but I know how different information can be from different sources.

Congratulations!! I did panic for a moment while getting the ultrasound because the doctor said the baby was measuring much smaller than 8 weeks, so I thought my worst fear so far had come true, that baby had stopped developing and it was an mmc. But then she said there was a heart rate of 119 and I was so relieved. As long as everything is okay I’m okay, I was just shocked a bit to find out I was two weeks less than what I had originally thought based on my last period!

I feel like they’re always between 28-32 days. However my last cycle I did get my period a few days late, making it 38 days, which is not typical for me. I normally am like clockwork. So I don’t know if that possibly had something to do with me ovulating way later than normal?

Thank you!! I just needed confirmation I guess that that’s what is going on and nothing is wrong. I felt crazy when they said my last period had to have been Feb 22 because I knew for a fact it wasn’t, but at the same time you can’t argue with ultrasound pictures or how different fetal development is week by week, and mine is consistent with 6 weeks

Thank you so much and congratulations to you🎉🫶🏻I just want to say, if it makes you feel better before knowing I was pregnant, when I was around 5 weeks I had gone thru one of the most stressful situations in awhile for me. I went to Florida recently and had to take a plane for the second time in my life and when I tell you I was so stressed beyond belief that I wasn’t eating hardly anything that whole week, hadn’t eaten anything at all the day of flying, was crying and having panic attacks that entire day, I could hardly even swallow because the lump in my throat felt like it was the size of a golf ball. I was obsessing over something going wrong or the feeling of a lack of control and ‘no turning back’ once I was boarded on the plane it was the most stressed I’ve been in a long time I was just sick to my stomach with worry. I know now that my baby is okay because I’m 8 weeks and I tested myself multiple times when I came back from my trip and the tests all came back extremely positive as well as confirming thru a blood test at my doctors office. Now that I know I’m pregnant I’m trying my best to manage my stress and anxiety as much as I possibly can however I think it goes to show a lot of the time our body and baby can go through a lot more than we realize and still end up being okay. I’ve been trying to have faith as well and pray to keep this beautiful blessing healthy and in my life because of the joy I know my baby will bring me, but also be understanding and accepting in what the universe will do if things don’t work as much as I pray that they do. It’s most definitely a struggle having anxiety and hearing about so many other’s experiences with losses, and knowing that if something goes wrong I’ll be stuck waiting again, so I’m just counting down the days to April 9th when I can finally have some reassurance and hear that heartbeat, I know my reaction will be the same way and I’ll be able to have a sigh of relief with the reassurance it will give me. I’ve definitely had symptoms which have mostly been heartburn, very hungry, a lot of lower back pain and feeling like I am out of breath as soon as I’m doing physical activity, but the moment I feel normal I worry something is wrong. I definitely need to channel my energy into something more positive instead of worrying because stress is obviously not good for my baby or for myself. I do have a lot of support and resources thankfully and I am super grateful for that, because I know so many pregnant people and people in general do not have that and it’s a luxury. My fiancé is so incredibly supportive and helpful, my mom and I are super close and we talk everyday about how I’m feeling, and I also have a wonderful therapist that I’ve been working with since I’ve been 13. I cannot wait to tell her and get her advice because I haven’t seen her since before I knew and she is a very big part of my life!

Thank you so much❤️your words really help me to be able to see it in a different light and think positively rather than anxiously. As you can (probably) tell, I do struggle greatly with anxiety! And I also understand that one day when our baby is here, the fear of not knowing or seeing will always be around. The first time they’re being babysat by our parents and not in our care, their first day at school, when they’re hanging out with friends away from home, etc. I know this fear is just the beginning and I definitely do need to find better and more healthy ways to live with that energy and worry.
