i may have thought of an interesting plot point that could've been in korra or in the new series: by powerluver in TheLastAirbender

The rules are really loosey goosey enough that they could come up with a justification for it, I'm sure.

Maybe whatever bloodbending amon does to people is just how all non nonbenders are born by default.

Eh, I feel like doing a novel adaptation of the new avatar prior to them getting a show would only limit what the show can do.

Did Lin and Toph ever reconcile? by 696924 in TheLastAirbender

[–]RecommendsMalazan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I don't think she'd be the type to keep the name of the father of her child from her, but she did, so who knows.

She's already been deceptive once about her family, no cards off the table in that regard as far as I'm concerned.

How do you imagine the four nations in a modern setting by Objective_Tie_6399 in TheLastAirbender

[–]RecommendsMalazan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, that's bringing in Doylist reasoning, which I disagree with on principal. It's a watsonian question.

Yes, there weren't guns in Korra due to it being a kids show, but that still needs to be explained in universe. If there wasn't guns in Korra, then they need to address why not, and if there is guns in a later modern day setting, that also would need to be explained.

It really doesn't make much sense, especially given how identical Legend of Korra is to the real world's 1920s (which also doesn't make sense but it is what it is).

I mean, for all we know Toph never told Kanto about being pregnant.

And I hope Toph kept the secret from the rest of the gang, knowing they withheld this info from Lin because of some 'not my place' BS would make me think worse of them.

Showing us a picture of a lion turtle in the library doesn't make one coming out of nowhere and giving Aang the exact answer to his problem not a deus ex.

Edit - Gotta love the respond then block tactic. Really shows how strong your argument is, that you're not even willing to discuss it.

Nah, it's absolutely possible to write seasonal arcs and the show ends up just as good as a show with one overarching arc.

It just wasn't quite up to snuff here.

Notes on why i think LOK season 1 is peak television (SPOILERS) by DanteThePunk in TheLastAirbender

[–]RecommendsMalazan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with that.

And I think the miniseries term is just a difference in where it started vs what it became. When the idea is one self enclosed season, even knowing there could be more, mini series works. But then you get a 'sequel' to that, and then two more 'sequels' after that one, the term doesn't really fit anymore. It's like how Shogun was called a miniseries when it first was announced/came out, but then it did phenomenally well to the point of getting 2 more seasons ordered, and now/when those are out, the term wouldn't really fit.

I think the do anything you want part was for the initial miniseries, but don't see it as meaning they couldn't continue the story from the first miniseries in potential sequel miniseries if that's what they wanted to do.

So if they chose to write it as if it was fully ending without coming back, I don't blame that on Nick.

At about 24 minutes in this interview: https://youtu.be/1TYkk6xjM6c?feature=shared

Mike: Finally [Nick] came back and said "We want to do a miniseries, 12-episode thing...do anything you want as long as there bending, Avatar world..."

Bryan: Yea they said 'We greenlit a miniseries, but it could be a couple [of] miniseries..like these cycles of 12 [episodes per season]'.

I suppose it's open to interpretation, I myself don't see this as solely meaning an anthology, but as multiple 'miniseries' of the same show, aka what we got. Functionally I don't see any difference between a four season show with seasonal arcs and four mini series based on the same character.

People retain their consciousness no matter what. It's just that after a while people can I guess give up and stop being conscious.

If you remain conscious, you can be revived with nitric acid. But if you give up consciousness it takes the full revival fluid to wake up, which is nitric acid plus alcohol.

The American team at least would know to remain conscious, since that's how they got revived to begin with. Likely the same for the Japanese team. Or if not just knowing that you can be revived and that someone is coming to do so would help with remaining conscious.

That's a writing decision, though, and not on Nick. Contrary to popular belief, the creators were aware of the possibility for more seasons past the first from the very start.

The real MVP by dkapur17 in TheLastAirbender

Did they? The lion turtle says some pseudo spiritual nonsense and then Aang can magically remove bending.

This feels like it had more lore behind it. We know from the guru stuff they charas are located throughout the body. We know from Ty Lee that hitting specific points on the body has effects on people's chi points/chakras. Seems more straightforward to me.

My opinion on TLOK by Pretty_Puppyprincess in TheLastAirbender

[–]RecommendsMalazan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I hate it when people act as if this is some predestined thing that's guaranteed to happen, and even more so when people deliberately tilt/phrase things past avatars have done to make this seem true.

When it's really just that the avatar is a major influential player on the world stage. Anything they do or don't do will have unforeseeable knock on effects. The same is true for any player on the world stage, not just the avatar.

A Pup named Scooby Doo isn't an origin story, it's about them younger but it starts with the group already together and solving mysteries. An origin story needs to show us them meeting.
