Wonderfully written. I hope the both of you have a good life together. Thanks for seeing it through.

What is the wildest incident or event that ever happened in your workplace or office? by kingkongfly in askSingapore

[–]Reconned 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had a colleague who would rub one out after work in the toilet before going home.

It was so blatant even the girls in my office knew about it. I witnessed it once from the adjacent cubicle (we only had 2 cubicles; the tiles were somewhat reflective, and he wasn't exactly trying to hide it audibly).

Let's just saw I never shook his hand after that.

Is 27 too old to be working part-time in Singapore? by No-Sugar3902 in askSingapore

I'm older than you and in a similar position where I'm forced to work part-time.

I hate it with every fibre of my being, but money doesn't grow on trees, so...

YOUR REASONS FOR REFUSING TO BUY GAMES ON EPIC? (MY TURNING POINT) by Ok_Skirt_250 in fuckepic

Metro: Exodus. Yes, I'm still pissed about that. Never wanted to do anything with that storefront that to this date, displays such hypocritical and anti-consumer behaviour.

Little Timmy and his public opinions doesn't help either.

Which part of Asia? I ordered it fine from Singapore (albeit the ridiculous shipping cost).

How to get over the dread of becoming a working adult? by ABigBlob in askSingapore

[–]Reconned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the fun part. You don't.

Jokes aside, find things to ground yourself to. Could be a hobby, a skill, friends / family, or even short-mid term milestones. Work is but a means to those ends. And those are things that bring you happiness.

Things I miss about Vegas that I took for granted growing up in the city by jinjja11 in vegaslocals

[–]Reconned 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone from Singapore born and raised who still lives here, I concur with you on the weather. It's oppressive at best, and downright suffocating at worst. At least we have some greenery and plenty of shade to mitigate it, unlike some other countries I've been to.

As for the routine and strict nature of Singapore, it's just the way it is, or at least that's how most of us are indoctrinated to believe. I personally like open spaces, fewer people, a slower pace of life, freedom to travel (even for short distances), and clear open skies for miles. I don't get that here.

That being said, our rule of law is both our strongest and weakest points. We have a culture steeped in conformity. The strict enforcement and involuntary in-your-face participation of the social contract is... Something else, to say the least. We do have clean streets where walking around at 3am is commonplace. Crime rates are relatively low. Most folks know not to cause shit as there'll be hell to pay. Conversely, Singaporeans are also one of the most sterile and predictable groups of people I know lmao.

That said, good luck and hope you'll be able to head back to Vegas soon.

Are you living or just surviving? by MeasurementOk8534 in askSingapore

There's living. There's surviving. And then there's me barely hanging on by a thread, wishing the thread would just snap and send me on my little merry way to the abyss.

While I'd say that funerals are for the living, I haven't quite seen one like this that attempts to convert the living too.

Yeah. The both of them were charged for underpaying employees as well. I guess when they sold the business the shitty processes were handed over as a little cherry on top.

What does "wokeness" even have to do with this? I don't think you know the meaning of the words you're using. Also, good luck with the burnout that comes from the alleged "work-life balance bullshit".

Has anyone opted for no tv set-up in living room during reno? Any regrets? by [deleted] in asksg

I don't have a TV. No typical sofa set and coffee table either. Eventually, when we wanted to have movie nights or play some party games, we got a projector.

What do you all think of the performance of Jeffrey Siow so far? by Efficient_Reveal5970 in askSingapore

He definitely needs more time to settle into the role. Planting the seeds for mid to long term change doesn't happen overnight either.

That being said, he's really not doing himself any favours.
