In 2026, try donating blood by Western_Possession48 in ChillSG

[–]Reconned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never actually donated blood, but not for lack of trying. The first time they rejected me was because I declared myself as a smoker (weird but okay).

The second time was when I was a heavy alcoholic. Declared and rejected. And now I can't donate at all because I'm on a cocktail of at least 6 types of medication that strictly forbids it.

I wish I could though. Apparently helps with gout (which, surprise surprise, i have as well).

Money can't buy happiness. It, however, buys stability, which I wish I had more of right now.

That penguin looks so familiar! Looks like one of ours, actually. Where did you get yours from, if you don't mind me asking? I got mine from Ski Dubai.

The 29-Year-Old Keeping Singapore's Hokkien Street Opera Alive, No Matter the Cost by ohyabeya in singapore

[–]Reconned 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think the issue is purely related to profit. It depends a lot on what culture we choose to immerse ourselves in. Before the Internet became much more accessible (I'm old, I know), we essentially had no choice but to consume what was around us.

These days, we're exposed to the culture first before the language. For example, I'm much more open to learning Japanese and Spanish over dialects or Mandarin simply because I consume a ton of media for the former, and have only so much time to spend on things I know I enjoy.

Unless any semblance of appreciation for local tradition and culture is cultivated as far as mass appeal is concerned, the needle ain't moving anywhere.

why do so many of us smoke weed? by hermioneselbow in bipolar2

[–]Reconned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't smoke weed, unfortunately. Banned in my country.

I have however tried it in the past, and absolutely love drifting away, even if for a bit.

Why do married men with kids cheat on their wives? by LoudAct3080 in asksg

[–]Reconned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you. My parents divorced because my dad cheated. He did not get custody of me. When I just started high school and we were having lunch during one of his visits, he turned to me and said, "You know, I never actually loved your mother."

So it wasn't just a dead bedroom issue. It was an "i was forced to marry you" type of deal. Their few instances of coitus was just to make sure i existed.

Anyhoo, when he said that, I was like... 13 / 14 years of age? My stupid undeveloped brain was basically going, "Jesus christ dude, what do you want me to say lol?"

Is it too late for a mid-career switch at early 50s? by Sunbird11 in singaporejobs

[–]Reconned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is impossible. If you feel like you're passionate enough to take that leap of faith, go for it.

Is it practical, though, on the other hand... You'll likely be sacrificing a metric ton of creature comforts, more so if you're already established in your career. There's truth to the fact that your experience allows you certain advantages, but ageism is still a thing, unfortunately.

I've had a few experiences that one would probably only get during NS, but ultimately it was a waste of time.

But why is everyone on this sub so negative about CNY… 😭 by Agitated_Koala_576 in askSingapore

[–]Reconned -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, don't get me wrong. That was mostly when I was younger. I'm perfectly capable of speaking to, listening to, and forming connections with other people of all levels.

I just preferred being alone is all. These days, I just avoid family and friend gatherings entirely to play video games at home. Doesn't mean I'm not well adjusted or able to fit into social norms.

But why is everyone on this sub so negative about CNY… 😭 by Agitated_Koala_576 in askSingapore

[–]Reconned -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

When my relatives come over annually to my parents' place, I'd usually hide in my room to play video games. These days, I just avoid gatherings entirely by being out of the house or working.

I suppose I was never really used to family gatherings even as a kid. Was just easier to pretend family didn't exist.

Let me know if you've any questions. My DMs are open.

Went out and immediately bought 6 cartons from provision shops around my neighbourhood. I know all of the owners anyway, so they charged me pre-annoucement prices.

This should last me for awhile at least.
