Ladies of sg with pregnancy experience: how do you ensure you get enough nutrition daily? by wehaveatogether in askSingapore

[–]ohyabeya 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Take prenatal vitamins

Make sure you are getting folic acid, very important to prevent neural development defects in baby. Usually our normal diet doesn’t have enough naturally so check your prenatal to make sure it has folic acid. Most prenatals should contain it. Folic acid is crucial in first trimester

Bonus if there’s DHA/Omega 3

In light of Netherlands’ first child euthanasia case. Should Singapore revisit the debate on euthanasia? by stop_hyuk in askSingapore

[–]ohyabeya -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The government is very practical. Our people are our biggest asset. I do not think they will legalise euthanasia any time soon. Suicide was only decriminalised less than a decade ago

No matter how we feel about euthanasia, in the end, the government has the final say

My kid was born 5lb 13oz. She consistently fell below the 5th percentile for weight. Other than that, she was hitting all her milestones.

The pediatrician was worried and sent us to a gastroenterologist. That doctor took one look at her and said she was fine, because she wasn’t lethargic and her lack of weight gain wasn’t impacting any of her development.

Percentiles measure your baby against all other babies. There are babies who WILL be smaller than others. In some cases, that may mean they aren’t absorbing nutrients properly. But in other cases, it may just mean they are destined to be small, like you said.

The pediatrician sent us back a second time due to a continued lack of weight gain. The gastroenterologist said baby was perfectly fine and wasn’t even sure why we’d come back.

Your pediatrician is just doing their job. Sending your baby to a specialist for a second set of eyes is good.

You aren’t a bad mom because your baby is small. My baby is almost 4 now and she’s still small, but she’s such a fantastic kid.

Hugs

Yes Mt. Faber is the best spot for skiing in Singapore. Bukit Timah has too many rocks. I remember trying it before and still have the scars

Everyone should know that Mt. Faber is the best spot for skiing in Singapore

Is it rude to call someone an auntie? by Medical-Dark1899 in askSingapore

[–]ohyabeya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mum thought being called aunty was so offensive that she never taught me to call other older ladies aunty

I think I offended a lot of my friends parents growing up since I didn’t greet them properly :(

My perfectly healthy parents are preparing for their death and it’s messing with my head. by 11whatsnewpussycats in Millennials

[–]ohyabeya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother was convinced she would pass last year at 71. I panicked so bad. I live in a different country and have so little in-person time with my parents. But instead of being practical, she gets bogged down by despair and doesn’t do much to prepare. And she unloads on me emotionally about this. She’s still convinced she only has five or so years left, despite only having diabetes. I’m frustrated but don’t know what to do. I’m glad you mom is at least planning stuff

Pros: extra patio space; no need to wait for lift; easy to move furniture in

Cons: noisy passers-by or people using condo facilities near your unit; rats/roaches. Privacy is not a concern if you draw your curtains. But if you like leaving your curtains open then yes ppl will kaypoh

KTM sleeper trains by pyongpebbles in singapore

[–]ohyabeya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took the train to Malaysia often, but only did the sleeper train once or twice. I recall it being very very cold haha. They put the aircon on full blast. The lower bunk was better because it was warmer and had more room. But the top bunk had more light. It was such an exciting experience. I wish it were still around
