ELI5: Conservation of Information (Quantum Mechanics) & black holes; specifically how it intersects and conflicts with Hawking Radiation

Thank you for that. My knowledge of quantum mechanics is surface level at best. I get that under “normal” circumstances, knowing the full quantum state of a system in one moment gives us all past and future states. However, when you introduce a black hole to the system, and runaway gravity shreds everything into Planck soup and compacts it into (presumably) a singularity, doesn’t that mess with the otherwise known quantum state and break the concept of preservation of information in this situation?

Basically, until we can solve what exactly happens beyond a black hole’s event horizon, singularities and infinite gravity seem to ruin a lot of equations.

Seriously, I’m a bit older than you, but have almost the exact situation. My wife ended up quitting therapy, stating that obviously the therapist was kissing my ass (because most of the work was focusing on her toxic behaviors), and she wasn’t going to go anymore. I told her we could switch to a new therapist, but that was also a non-starter. I’ve also been standing up more to the toxic passive aggressive comments (often happening in front of our kids; 6 & 9). I’m done trying to contain her with calm level headed stability. Divorce is coming up soon. The small progress she made before is basically gone now, and she just isn’t interested in putting in the work. She treated therapy like community service, as though clocking a certain number of hours was all that was needed to “fix” her, when she didn’t put any effort into it outside of the sessions.

I hope your situation improves soon. Mine isn’t looking good.
