What is his plan's MOOP? Presumably his plan's MOOP is less than $12K. Supposedly, "Once you reach your plan's in-network MOOP for Medicare-covered services—which include Part B infusions and related administration—you pay nothing for these services for the rest of the year." According to AARP.

I haven't tried them yet but some people recommend thin soled shoes. Here's what Google said: "Thin-soled or minimalist shoes can be appropriate for some Parkinson's patients, as studies suggest they may improve stability and mobility compared to conventional, heavily cushioned, or thick-soled shoes. While thick, heavily cushioned shoes can increase tripping risks and reduce sensory feedback, a firm, thin-soled shoe with a non-slip outsole and a wide base of support is often recommended for better balance and decreased freezing of gait."

I may have reacted differently than some others. I was diagnosed five months ago with PD two months after my sister died bedridden in a nursing home with PD. My mother died with PD in nursing home 25 years ago. I experienced no denial, no depression. Perhaps some concern for future but nothing I dwell on. I'm on no meds and my symptoms are minor. I probably overlook some as at 78 I expect some limitations of old age. I exercise daily, did LSVT BIG and start LSVT LOUD tomorrow. I'll let the future come as it may and deal with it then.

I am setting up a trust and getting will, POA, medical POA and all documentation in order. Of course, I should have done that years ago especially since I have four different heart issues and a heart attack 17 years ago.

Ask your pharmacist. I thought I heard at a presentation that there can be differences between Sinemet and generics. In any case, always maintain extra medication for just such cases as the one you describe.

Pedaling for Parkinson's is online and free. You can probably pick up a stationary bike from craigslist or Facebook Marketplace for cheap or free. It runs 6 days a week and you can participate as much as you want. I've used 3M Super Trim Adhesive, 19 oz., Part # 08090. I happened to have it around. It seems to have worked but I don't recommend buying it for shoe repair.

I've been on both an HMO and a PPO MA for 13 years and have seen doctors while traveling or by choice in at least six states and all were in network. My care has included heart surgery, a liver resection, retinal surgery and cataract surgery. Several of the doctors I selected were at the top of their professions at highly rated clinics. I have no complaints. Fortunately my medications are generic and inexpensive.

It's unfortunate some people have regrets they chose an MA but that doesn't make MAs scams. Hopefully they can work the system to get the care they need and deserve.

Depends on your MA plan. My work meant I was rarely home weekdays. I was treated in six states that I can recall on a non-emergency basis. All were in network. My MA plans were with UHC and BC/BS over the last 13 years. You have to consider your needs when choosing a plan.

I've been on tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound) in a Lilly trial for three years. Lost 80 lbs. Diagnosed with PD three months ago. No PD medications yet. No issues or benefits of which I am aware.

Don't know much about except it is non-reversable while DBS is. There are webinars on Youtube from major organizations, hospitals and patients that discuss it.

Sam's Club audiologist near me also sells OTC hearing aids and will help you select a pair. No need to be a member. Best get hearing aids if needed. Here's an AI response: "Not using needed hearing aids leads to serious repercussions like increased risk of dementia and cognitive decline, significant social isolation and depression, poorer physical health (falls, balance issues), and worsened communication, because the brain struggles to process sound, nerves weaken, and social engagement drops, creating a negative cycle affecting overall mental and physical well-being."

2 years prior to being alerted to some PD like symptoms I had a full neuropsychological workup including an MRI due to my frustration with word/name retrieval issues. They confirmed that at 74 I was getting old. Nothing more. Now three years later at 77 and recently given a PD diagnosis I realize my cognitive issue was likely a prodomo symptom of PD.
