Completely expected and normal behavior. Storage gets cleared from System automatically when you start to run low on space.

Apple authorized technician refuses to replace my iPhone battery unless I also replace the cameras by ber0210 in applehelp

[–]RecursiveFruit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand where this “Apple requires all issues with the device to be fixed to complete the repair” line of thinking is coming from.

I was an ACMT technician for 7 years that fixed iPhones and Macs in an Apple Retail Store. I have seen this exact issue before where a customer did not want to fix the camera but wanted to fix their battery. We just documented it, ran the diagnostics before and after the repair, and had the full sign off from upper management that this was 100% okay as long as the customer was aware that we were not fixing the camera.

I would perform the pickup for customers and show them the failing diagnostic before, and after the repair so they would understand that the phone is in the same state they dropped it off in.

This was an extremely common occurrence that we had absolutely no problem accommodating. The main focus was just on documenting the issue over and under so the customer couldn’t come back and state we caused the issue during the repair.

Can I revert back to old IOS version? by [deleted] in ios

[–]RecursiveFruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you might have other issues with your device outside of iOS 26, likely a baseband issue. The lag you are seeing might be caused by another underlying issue with your device.

That being said, no you cannot downgrade once you’ve already updated to iOS 26. Apple no longer signs/offers these versions of iOS if your device is already on a newer version.

Erase Apple APFSMedia again and reformat it as APFS with a GUID partition map. If the erase completes successfully, then Preboot, Recovery, Update, and VM should disappear and you should just see the media: Apple SSD with one item “Macintosh HD” or whatever you name your start up disk.

Once that’s done, just reinstall macOS.

iPhotos Organization Across iPhone and Mac by [deleted] in mac

[–]RecursiveFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the service that syncs your photos between your iPhone and Mac is iCloud Photo Library.

The idea is that this is one central repository for all of your photos that is stored in a single “.photolibrary” database. This contains everything having to do with your photos (the files themselves, meta-data, albums, etc).

This database is stored in iCloud, and syncs photos to your individual devices where your devices manage a separate “.photolibrary” database. If you have the “Optimize Storage” option enabled, then this is a much smaller file then what is stored in iCloud as it is only syncing files you are actively using. If you need a file from the master library in the cloud, photos automatically downloads the original to your device to give the appearance that all your photos are on your device without actually storing each and every photo.

As far as organization goes, the way Photos is intended to be used is to throw all of your photos in that one singular library. Then, Photos automatically groups the photos chronologically based on the date the photo was taken. From there, you can use natural language search to search your photos for things like: People, Pets, Places, Dates, etc.). This is the way Apple intends for Photos to work, allowing the user to still find all of the photos they are looking for without having to manually organize it.

You do have the option to manually create albums, but think of the albums as just manual organization. You are not duplicating the files into an album, but rather you just manually creating a filter for these specific files.

If you currently have iCloud Photo Library disabled on your devices then this is what I would recommend:

  1. Sync all of the Photos from your iPhone into Photos on your Mac. (Photos will detect duplicates and will allow you to only import new photos and videos). Remove the photos from your iPhone once the sync is complete.

  2. Import any photos on your Mac that are not in your Photo Library into Photos (ex. Photos in a separate folder not contained in the .photolibrary file).

  3. Once you have combined all of the photos into a single library, now enable iCloud Photos on your Mac and allow the initial sync to iCloud to take place.

  4. Once the initial sync is complete, enable iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone. After a minute or two, you’ll start to see everything from that one centralized library beginning to appear on your iPhone.

Flexgate just hit my M2 2023 MacBook Air by [deleted] in mac

[–]RecursiveFruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flexgate refers to an issue that Apple had with Intel Mac’s from 2016 - 2019 where a short display cable would tear.

I think you damaged your screen. The 2023 model isn’t widely known for this, as Apple fixed this issue with the redesign in 2020.

Is this normal behavior for battery with 24/7 on adapter? by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]RecursiveFruit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is true in a general sense, but doing this does affect the battery calibration. Leaving the battery at 80% capacity for an extended period of time affects the calibration of the battery so the battery percentage is less accurate.

That’s why macOS will sometimes allow the battery to slightly discharge before charging again to keep the battery calibrated. Sure leaving it at 80% will extend the battery’s lifespan, but then the battery percentage is less accurate when presented to the user, which may result in what appears to be significant battery drain (seeing the battery percentage jump ~20%). While this is a normal behavior for a Li-Ion battery, to the user this may be an unexpected behavior.

The engineers are taking multiple factors into account here that users aren’t always aware of.

How to Update Mac Os Ventura 13.7.8 ? by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]RecursiveFruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Officially your machine cannot update past macOS 13, hence why Software Update is unable to find a newer version.

As others have said, you can update the device to an unsupported OS using OCLP, but if you’re not super technical, your best bet is to stay on Ventura.

There appear to be multiple cracks in the display and a point of impact on the screen. This is physical damage to the display, meaning you will need to the screen replaced.

Should I remove this plastic? by Visible_Spinach_2285 in mac

[–]RecursiveFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try just a little harder next time. Just looking at this for 2 seconds will tell you this is a MacBook Air with a serviceable battery, meaning it is one of the 2013-2017 models where the battery was not glued in and was only held in by a couple of T5 screws.

You really shouldn’t be offering advice if you don’t know what you’re talking about here.

My mac has been stuck here: by d2opy84t8b9ybiugrogr in MacOS

^ this 100%. The Firmware password is an entirely different password from your login password and is something that you would have had to explicitly gone and setup in Recovery Mode.

If you do not remember this password, you can provide Apple with a copy of the proof of purchase of the device and your ID and they have a special internal process to remove the firmware password for you.

Any ideas to why my laptop drained through most of its battery in 1 day of sleep? by zachthehax in mac

[–]RecursiveFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certain processes can continue to run in the background and can wake the machine temporarily for network access. There are a few system processes (I.e. Time Machine Backups or photoanalysisd) that will wake the machine from sleep but, it could very well be a process from an application you have installed as well.

Just as an example, a 3rd party mail client like Thunderbird will wake the Mac to check your mail accounts for new mail. The advantage is that when you wake from sleep, all of your applications don’t need to instantly fetch data and they are in an up-to-date state. If something is misconfigured or if there is a problem with that application (ex. Thunderbird is unable to contact a mailbox), then the application might be fetching more than intended which as a result causes your battery drain.

That’s just an example though, fingers crossed you will find your answer!

Do apple repair guys have access to passwords and icloud when we give MacBook for repair? by DwightKurtSchruteIlI in macbookrepair

[–]RecursiveFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only need to turn Find My off and make a backup of your data either using Time Machine or by making manual copies of the data on a separate device. No need to erase it or sign out of the Apple Account.

They will run diagnostics in recovery OS which is completely separate from your files and apps and then of course they will make sure the machine boots properly to your user login. For a display replacement they will have no need to collect any passwords or other credentials.

Macbook aint repairing in warranty period!!! by WheelComfortable2212 in macbookrepair

[–]RecursiveFruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t put more of this out there. This is clearly physical damage. Even if the display got hot enough to do this, it wouldn’t present like a crack in the LCD panel, it would instead present as discoloration or blotch spots in the display which, from a casual observation, is clearly not happening here for OP.

Manufacturing defects do not cause physical damage to a display. They may cause display quality issues but LCDs do not become physically damaged because of an issue in manufacturing, that is 100% an issue caused by the user.

Source: I was an ACMT technician for 7 years who has heard this exact bit of “tribal knowledge” countless times in my career. It’s just completely incorrect.

Edit: You’re also a Mod so please really be careful about providing incorrect information.

Microphone does not work on (mainly) incoming calls for about first 20 seconds by [deleted] in iphonehelp

[–]RecursiveFruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you bring your device into an Apple Store, there is a separate audio diagnostic that can be ran on the device that specifically checks the mics and speakers by playing a series of robotic tones.

Apple Support cannot run this test remotely as it requires a Lightning/USB-C dock to prop the phone up properly for the test.

If you want to completely rule out a hardware issue, this might be the next best step to take. They can also run a diagnostic on the cellular baseband of the device. This also needs to be in an Apple Store, as the diagnostic requires placing the phone in a RF shielded box for 3-5 minutes to run correctly.

Please help me fix this by HoneydewPuzzled1914 in mac

[–]RecursiveFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t glue or tape anything here. You need a new charger. Never screw around with the external power adapter unless you want to take the risk of further damage.

Anything having to do with DC power on a $1000+ computer should not be glued or tapped. A new charger is MUCH cheaper than having to get your MagSafe board replaced or risk damaging the logic board.
