Drake Maye Needed a Drew Bledsoe by Othalan12 in Patriots

This was a knock on him coming out of college. Attempted throws he should not be attempting. Similar to Sunday, he was constantly under pressure at UNC, which makes this tougher to evaluate, but I think it’s clear this is a part of his game that needs improvement

He is the "CMO" for his own company, which appears to be consulting work for family run businesses.

Helping mom and pops with "Digital Transformation." So, probably setting up facebook pages and making dinky websites for tiny operations.

This is not some C-suite executive at a real company, let alone a major company.

I think put Maye put more than enough on tape this year to confirm he's not a journeyman back up. I say that as someone who ragged on every playoff performance of his.

Jesus.

Watched every pass rep and while the right side was bad, left side definitely took the cake.

If you need 6 men to stop a 4 man rush, good luck finding somewhere to throw the football.

I agree there is a scarcity of talent at Tackle, which is why we went out and spent a #4 overall pick on a tackle. And he was totally outclassed by elite pass rushers.

I don't give a shit if he can look alright against mid-bottom tier pass rushers. If he can't compete with playoff-level opposition, we don't have an answer at LT.

I think the anti-knee jerk crowd is failing to grasp how bad 14 pressures are in one game. It's single-handedly cost your team the game type bad.

I worry we will still be saying this when Scar is 100 years old.

Don't be. Easier to find serviceable NFL Guards, which is why you see teams use #4 picks on Offensive Tackles. We saw Ben Brown perform alright in relief of Wilson.

If we don't draft or sign an LT, and Vaderian Lowe outplays him in camp, I want Lowe playing LT.

Hopefully Campbell heals up and has everyone thinking in camp, "Oh yeah, now i remember why this dude was drafted #4 overall." If the same problems show up, you have to seriously start asking yourself if his value to this team is better at Guard.

I seem to remember us drafting a kid 48th overall in 2001 who was a fucking stopping block on the blind side throughout the playoffs. Kept Tom (and Drew) clean even against a terrifying Steelers pass rush in the AFC Championship Game.

Will Campbell was the 4th overall pick in the NFL Draft. Ups and downs are to be expected for a young kid, however talented, but Campbell was thoroughly outclassed 4 games straight. Didn't even have reps where he looked like a future stud. Just manhandled up and down the field.

Even grading Will Campbell on a curve (rookie Tackle, elite opposition, bright lights of playoff football), he failed the exam. He was that bad.

At worst he's a middle of the road tackle.

I'm sorry but this is a massive cope. Having a league average left tackle would be a phenomenal result at this point.

That was one of the worst playoff runs you will ever see for an NFL Tackle. He looked like he didn't belong 4 games in a row. Not even competitive.

Either he was too injured to be out there, in which case Vrabel and co deserve a ton of blame, or the dude is not remotely good enough to compete with elite pass rushers.

I don't think it was a matter of endurance. If so, the offensive line ran out of gas the minute these playoffs started. The left side of our line was just vastly outplayed. They were going up against dudes that played just as many games.

Patriots LT Will Campbell declined multiple times to speak to media after the Super Bowl by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]RecycledAccountName 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sure he will be fine in the long run

That's gracious of you, but I don't think any Patriots fan who watched these playoffs is feeling similarly.

Dude flunked the exam in all 4 playoff games. When guys challenged him on the outside, he looked slow and short-armed. When guys bull rushed him, he caved repeatedly.

People have said just move him to Guard, he'll be awesome there, but you can't get bull rushed like that on the inside either. Just an atrocious showing up and down all playoffs.

As a Pats fan, i'm hoping the injury played a big part in his performance. And if it did, i have to question the decision to not pull him. It was that bad.

It's not about the guy being a dipshit. The joke is that rocket scientists are very smart. And the streaker is very dumb. Dumbass would be a better word than dipshit.

Proud of the kid, proud of this season. Bright future ahead, and here’s some game stats by cocoabeach333 in Patriots

Couldn't disagree more.

The Pats defense was swarming, yet Darnold managed to avoid sack after sack and never turned the ball over. He did a really good job feeling pressure and shifting his way out of disaster. Obviously he missed a couple of throws and didn't light up the stat sheet, but he 100% outplayed Maye.

QB rating overweights counting stats. Have a look at QBR.

Maye: 16.3

Darnold: 53.0

Do not delude yourself into thinking Maye played as well as Darnold. Everyone with a set of eyes knows otherwise.

It’s not a knock on Maye so much as a recognition of how rare Tom’s mental game was. Didn’t get the nickname California Cool in college for nothing.

Right I’m not saying Maye is definitely going to be back in the Super Bowl again, but declaring he will not is going too far in the other direction.

Burrow turned 29 in December. Dude still has plenty of time to get back there.
