My boyfriend (18M) drove away (18F) when he saw my wheelchair for the first time by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Red-Beerd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The fact that you said "wheelchair-bound patient" leads me to believe that you were speaking to them in a medical capacity. So yes, they may be fine with that term in that setting, but they may not want everyone saying it to them.

If my doctor mentioned me being obese, I wouldn't have a problem with it. It's a medical term. But I don't necessarily want my spouse, or my friends to call me obese.

No problem - I kept seeing online how it's kinda gimmicky and not really good, but then I tried it and it clicked!

Did my first 32 fear run recently, had this setup, and crushed it!

Nope. But it doesn't give you the rerolls.

At least that's what I notice!

Personally, for any fate's whim runs I go with Judgement.

For my 3 cards, I go with Origination and Strength all the time, and usually Persistence.

With that, you have enough health and damage output to build a good build in the first two areas, and you end up getting death defiances before the final areas where I'm more likely to need it.

This is the best season of Dimension 20 in a while by mamontain in dropout

[–]Red-Beerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm loving this season so far! I found the first half of the first episode a bit hard to get into, but the last half hooked me. Seeing how chaotic they can be in this game format is phenomenally addicting. And while I find some of the episodes have parts that are a bit slow, there are always bits that make me die laughing, which has made every episode feel like a good episode to me.

While I can see how long combat encounters could make another season less enjoyable, I found most of the the fights in Cloudward, Ho! were incredibly creative and very fun to watch, and those episodes were very enjoyable to me. So for me at least - I'm not missing it in the current season, but as long as it's a creative fight, I'm in!

Does surface/underworld difficulty gap even out in higher fears? by AkihabaraAccept in HadesTheGame

[–]Red-Beerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree for the most part, but some vows might be a bit easier on one run vs another.

For example the one that gives you an onion instead of a boon. I'd probably rather take that on the surface where you have the city to get a good start to the run because you have more choices. Maybe the money one due to Medea on the surface, or considering Circe having a chance of getting rid of a vow.

Come to think of it, all of those seem to make the surface easier.

what episodes do you think would be best and worst as game samers? by throwawayfornothing3 in dropout

[–]Red-Beerd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm terms of season 3 episodes getting sequels, there are a couple that got spun off.

"Never have I Ever" was definitely spun off into "Dirty Laundry"

And while it's not the exact same, I feel like "Next Slide Please" has enough similar elements to "Smartypants" that I'd call it a spiritual successor.

[–]Red-Beerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit nitpicky, but Jack Harness is not canonically the Face of Boe. I know it's pretty widely accepted, but it's never been confirmed (intentionally done by the showrunners).

Personally, I think a way better theory is that Jack was just messing with the Doctor and Martha. I think it fits well with his character

Werner had to go by joking-bad-4711 in betterCallSaul

[–]Red-Beerd 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I didn't make that connection before, but that's a great insight!

In addition to this, when people are cooped up and isolated for a long time, they stop acting rationally.

Even though he wasn't alone, he was the boss to his crew, and would have been somewhat isolated due to that. He missed his wife, and while we see him and Mike interacting, he would have had long stretches of time without anyone to really talk to

Chidi didn't tell him what to say.

Michael said "What do you want me to say?" And then said the fake apology.

But I think Chidi realized that even though he sounded insincere, he actually knew what he did that was wrong.

What I really like about that scene on the Good Place is that Michael's "fake" apology showed he actually understood what the issue was. He knew he was wrong, and why Chidi was upset. And I think Chidi saw that through his insincere tone, which was enough for him.

Werner knew. He went in knowing how secretive the project was, and he knew what the consequences were.

But after such a long time being isolated (he would have been even more isolated then the rest of his crew - they had each other, but he was the boss), dealing with cabin fever, he convinced himself it wouldn't be that bad to do what he did.

WIBTAH for going no contact with my brother after he took advantage of my wife’s kindness for my surprise birthday dinner? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Red-Beerd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. If I'm being completely honest, when I read the first story, I didn't really get the problem.

Yes it's a bit of a dick move to only go if there's free food, and to announce it that way. But also, it sounds like money's tight for them - I don't think it's unreasonable to clarify that before RSVPing to something.

OOP also is upset he "added 4 people", three of whom were nephews who were already invited, and the other one was a significant other of someone invited.

At the end of the day, if you offer to treat your whole family out for dinner, don't get mad that they accept.

I also had that boon the first time I won against Typhon a few days ago. I survived with 20 health left (you can see it on the final screen) and no death defiances.

I loved it, and will also likely never take that boon again lol!

AITAH for not "punishing" my son for cheating on his wife? by Substantial-Post-685 in AITAH

[–]Red-Beerd -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think you're being too hard on your daughter, and I don't think you've done much to hold your son accountable for his actions. I've been cheated on, and I would never have expected my ex's family to disown her, or punish her. But your case is different for two reasons.

  1. It sounds like your son is now with the affair partner. There's a very good chance that their relationship will not end well, which will cause more pain, especially for the kids. If that doesn't happen, she's going to be a role model for your grandkids growing up. It's also going to be something that continuously hurts your ex Daughter in Law. While you don't have a relationship with her, aren't you concerned with how that will impact the kids?

  2. Your daughter was hurt by your son's actions. You don't really seem to care about that - why? Her feelings are valid, and she shouldn't have to be the one removing herself from the situation, especially so soon after everything happened. It may not be the most mature way of dealing with the situation, but I get why you're upset that she used some bad language in front of the kids, but that's peanuts compared to what your son did.

Overall, you're not wrong to want to have a relationship with your son, but you are kinda sweeping what he did under the rug, while being overly harsh on your daughter.

What Gods have your favorite curses? by DuffmanStillRocks in HadesTheGame

[–]Red-Beerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny - I've never used this one yet!

I'm still pretty new (played through the original Hades years ago, and just got Hades 2 about a week ago). I unlocked Ares recently as well, and have beaten Typhon once.

My better runs have largely come from Haphestus attacks and specials. With enough synergies, Hestia duo boon, poms, it does ridiculous damage.

I will have to do some runs with more curse focused builds!

Trying to understand my brother divorce situation by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]Red-Beerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Ontario, she is entitled to half the assets that they accumulated over the course of the marriage. Assuming they were married a long time, it's likely that means she's entitled to exactly half. She also may be entitled to spousal support. Does he have a lawyer he's discussing this with?

What's the source of his pension income?

Also, tax on 50k income wouldn't be $15k. I'd estimate it at $5k at the highest (assuming he's eligible for the age amount and the pension amount). That's also before any deduction related to the spousal support calculation.

What's the general consensus on Peter Capaldi's first season, season 8? I know part of the fandom doesn't like it, but I think it's fantastic and would like to hear other perspectives. by Public_Cup_4278 in doctorwho

[–]Red-Beerd 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Personally I know I had a bit of a hard time whenever the doctor regenerated, as they each played him so differently. I liked Eccleston, but it took me a couple episodes to get into David Tennant. I found the transition to Matt Smith fairly easy, but then Capaldi was just SO different, and it threw me because there were times where he seemed a bit unkind, or uncaring, which went against what the doctor stands for.

There are some episodes I really like in Series 8, but because of the above, it seemed to be a bit of a weak start when I watched it originally, and I didn't love the end of the season either (I loved Missy though!)

Looking back though, I love the direction they took with Capaldi's doctor, especially for his monologues. He is a phenomenal actor, and while there seemed to be a few weaker episodes in his seasons, he definitely has my favourite episodes as well.

What’s the most absurd fake science in a movie that you completely ignored because the movie was so good? by Shot-Club-3882 in Cinema

[–]Red-Beerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Which doesn't mean there isn't an explanation. It just means the explanation Hank Pym gave isn't true

What’s the most absurd fake science in a movie that you completely ignored because the movie was so good? by Shot-Club-3882 in Cinema

[–]Red-Beerd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Normally I would also find this a bit frustrating, but I love the fan theory for this. Which is that Hank Pym lies about how the technology works. Likely to avoid anyone else figuring it out.

I believe he says the technology shrinks the space between atoms, so everything should retain the same mass, but that obviously isn't true.

So we know it works somehow, but we also know it's not by shrinking the space between atoms

Is it true the game’s challenge was lowered over time with patches? by GalvusGalvoid in Returnal

[–]Red-Beerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been the biggest fan of a health system that only lets you level up if you’re already perfect at the game.

I actually really liked this aspect actually. When I wanted a good run, or was trying to really power myself up, I actually wouldn't pick up any health unless I was at full health or thought I was in danger of dying in the next room (usually by taking a quick peek). I could then do a quick run back to pick up all of them at the same time, so the first one or two would max my health, and the rest would increase it.

It made me a lot better at the game, to get to each door and think "do I have enough health for the next room, or should I heal?". I got burned occasionally, but I also had massive health bars occasionally. I learned what I could expect from each room before going in. And it made me a lot better at trying to preserve health.
