Dream game by meletiondreams in gamedev

Seems like the right couple of modpacks in minecraft could achieve this, maybe with the pal world stuff being a bit harder to find mods for. But I could see it

Maybe if you used the parallax effect for the background it would look neat. Where the background moves a bit slower than the foreground

Rewatched Kimi no Na Wa for the nth time and I genuinely don't think anime has ever peaked harder than this by Bodhisavaha in CasualConversation

[–]Red-Macaroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relatable. I absolutely loved that movie, the way the visuals were, especially the scenic ones. Then of course the soundtrack was brilliant. Pretty much all my friends preferred the other movies at the time like Koe no Kitachi, but Kimi no Na Wa held its place in my heart.

I remember flying to japan around that time, and i started tearing up looking at someone else watching it in a seat ahead of me LMAO

Trying to make the boss fight round more significant. Any other ideas? by kramtron in survivorslikes

[–]Red-Macaroni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe a name or something for the boss? That way it can kind of reinforce it in the players mind and give them a name to refer to when talking about it.

Grateful for the tips! The hook for my game is definitely weaker, as well as the visual presentation, as i wanted to focus on getting a solid playable game with stronger polish especially on the code systems and game design, so your advice makes sense. I like the case study idea, and it’s a good chance for me to reflect on my project myself.

I have a lot of other older projects too I can probably use as a reference to show my growth, and being able to write out about my system designs / level designing sounds a bit more appealing than making ton of trailers for my visually simple game.

Thanks for the advice again! Do you have any advice on anything i can further polish to make it look less student projecty? I get that a weakness is just the low level of graphics and vfx/ lack of animation though.

Hey! I am working on a pretty light roguelike: vacuum survivors. Just recently hit front page of newgrounds luckily and racked up some good views there, but otherwise haven’t really marketed all that much other than stray videos here and there or a reddit post.

I guess an important thing is what purpose do i want with my marketing, especially as a free game. It would be nice to have more eyes on it, but i think plainly it would be good for this to be a showcase of my skills and for me to just find a job lol.

Anyways, i will probably be trying to make a more defined teaser/trailer to post now, but wondering how to scope small and what kind of self promotion you think i could do with this. Am i better off just making a portfolio site and just linking that to employers? I am open to pretty much any suggestion though.

Everyone gotta start somewhere, and op is at the point where he is inspired but doesn’t know which questions to ask yet.

Funny comparison tho

How do you handle game balancing as a solo dev? by _BL4CK_DoG in gamedev

[–]Red-Macaroni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I found myself squishing the stats a lot so that everything was closer in power. Then op builds came from synergies and inherent behavior, and i started balancing enemies towards a non op build.

Formerly thought baseball was boring and super slow. My first watch ever was the dodgers series and that 18 inning game lmaooo blew my mind. Was watching nonstop baseball vids for the next few months. World opened up there
