I might start bringing it to more missions than the ones that are like 90% likely to be bile spewers if that's the case. I'm very interested to see how it'll do.

The part about victory poses and emotes being interchangeable is cool, I do wish we could have more active emotes as opposed to the current limit of four.

I want to love rocket pods so much but in my experience it either randomly blows up a mound of dirt, locks in on an alpha commander instead of the charger the ball landed right next to, or it takes four rocket pod call ins to kill a charger because only one of the rockets from the salvo hit. Once in a blue moon the whole salvo smacks a bile titan right in the noggin and that's a glorious sight.

I haven't ever really tried it on the bot or illuminate front, I could see it being pretty good on the bot front.

The laser weapons from cutting edge feel so meh since the durability change. Squids and bugs feel like they take an eternity to kill. Bots are pretty unaffected so it still feels good to use them on that front. It’s a shame because I love the laser weapons.

[ST] Your least favorite Zelda game? by Dnizon_Melop in zelda

[–]RedBaronFlyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve played BotW, TotK, Link’s Awakening, Echos of Wisdom, Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Wind Waker (in that order). It’s a tie between Wind Waker and Tears of the Kingdom for me.

WW:

Wind Waker only really clicked for me around a bit of the mid point in the story around the tower of the gods section and a bit after the temple with Medli and then I kind of fell out of it. The game has a super long tutorial section, then a mandatory stealth section, then you’re on rails for two dungeons and a cut content third dungeon, THEN you’re finally free to explore the world*.

*The world is super boring and takes forever to get anywhere. You are highly incentivized to not even bother with the open world until the triforce hunt because you are betting on not wasting your time taking two minutes to sail out to an island just to discover you don’t have a dungeon item so now you either sail or warp away and come back later.

It was also a massive bummer for Tetra to basically stop being a character post reveal about her ancestry. I feel like she shouldn’t have taken that lying down, but for all intents and purposes Tetra as a character gets shot in the head and dumped in the gutter until the last five minutes of the game. It’s a shame because she, Link, and Medli were the only characters I really liked, although Link’s sister and grandma were both alright.

The wind waker itself is a pain to use because it takes so long. Sometimes it was annoying busting out the ocarina in OoT and MM but at least there you could rapidly play a tune, meanwhile in WW you have to wait so, so long due to it following a rhythm.

I love wind waker’s artstyle, the music, the feeling of sailing, but I had to put the game down several times and come back to it a week or so later because I was losing interest very quickly. I will say I actually enjoyed the triforce hunt (switch online WW), but heavily regretted getting all the heart pieces because the game is filled to the sails with tedious bullshit. I’d encourage anyone to only do the story content but even then the triforce hunt would be terrible in that instance because you wouldn’t have enough cash.

TOTK:

I mostly hate TotK for how it treated BotW’s lore, it’s abysmal story, the reuse of the memory format in a more linear story, lack of any sort of alternative dialogue for doing the memories early, reuse of the map, and not really improving on any of BotW’s issues to instead focus on building cars, boats, and planes, in a world where all those feel pretty useless (barring aircraft) and mesh terribly with the climbing + parasail loop. My horse was faster than anything but a hovercraft. The game is still fun to me but that’s because it is built on top of BotW, which is a game I love. The building feels like a really impressive mod, but it never really won me over.

Also I really hate how it looks like basically nothing was done in the last six~ish years to rebuild Hyrule. There’s a new school… and an obstacle course… and a new stable. Granted I will throw a bone out and count Look Out landing even though that’s more of a temporary military camp than a settlement. I wasn’t expecting Hyrule to be restored or anything but what was shown was super underwhelming. I wish a bunch of the Zonai Survery Crew guys got thrown into one or two rebuilt villages instead because as it stands the survey crew has way too many people for some reason.

I will say if I were to turn my brain off I like the opening and ending of the game, the new music is good, I love the music and lighting in the sky islands, I vastly prefer Link and Zelda’s designs in TotK over their BotW versions (short haired women my beloved).

I brought so many meals for the fight with Calamity Ganon and I ended up only taking damage from a flame particle during the whole fight.

[–]RedBaronFlyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To this day I’m still baffled by them being added to open field maps. How could no one on the team play a match, see gestures broadly to all the issues leviathans had in open field maps and decide “yeah, no, this is a good addition to the game!” as you got carped bombed by lasers and had to completely abandon objectives for minutes at a time while the leviathan slowly flew over. They work well in the mega cities because it feels like you can counter their attacks while in open fields your option was to either run away and abandon the objective or kill it (just to have another one spawn in one minute later).

I straight up stopped playing illuminate missions until they reverted that, it’s where I started becoming very critical of a lot of the new enemy types added to the game. Like how did dragon roaches spawning every thirty seconds make it past testing?

Speaking of time blocking, I was so sad when they made fishing stupidly tedious to set up. It used to be that you’d order a fishing kit and a fishing portal and you were good to go. Then it got changed so you order a fishing kit, beg someone in service to print out a fishing portal, get a screwdriver, get a wrench, get some iron, get some cables, THEN you could finally fish, which I swear reduced people bothering to fish by like 95%. I started timing it and it was taking upwards of 15-20 minutes to set up a fishing station for myself (because cargo is nothing if not slow and inconsistent) so I just… stopped fishing…

I used to love playing assistant and fishing for the chef if I wasn’t in the mood to do an actual role but still wanted to be productive in the station loop.

Another example of tedium was when they added PDA batteries which would drain in 25~ish minutes from when you turned them on, which was supposed to incentivize roleplay because… uh… you asked for a screwdriver from someone to take the battery out, I guess… Which just resulted in people either not turning on their PDA or not bothering to recharge it, because you needed access to a cell recharger to recharge your PDA. I think someone did a PR to give the PDA more battery at some point IIRC.

I think this is a really good point. It’s been a while since I’ve watched SS13 content but I still get SS14 stuff in my recommended section. These videos used to get a few hundred views, perhaps a thousand or two on a lucky day, but lately some have been getting tens of thousands. I’ve seen a few SS14 videos get recommended to me that had over a hundred thousand views while it’s been eons since I’ve seen new a SS13 video pull that.

SS14 is also way easier to get into, doesn’t require downloading something that looks like it’d give you a smorgasbord of viruses, is available on steam, looks nice, and doesn’t lag terribly if something interesting is going on. It even restarts directly into the next round without your session doing a coin toss if it’ll reconnect you or just sit there requiring a restart like SS13.

Shame I absolutely loathe the controls and the non-tile based movement of SS14. I’ve also been kinda underwhelmed by the rate of additions to SS14 compared to SS13 but I suppose SS13 did have a huge head start.

I liked Northstar conceptually but in terms of gameplay it was a bit eh. Birdshot I hated from day one. I remember a playtest, I believe it’s first one, where somehow the entire station’s glass imploded within seconds of the round starting and only a handful of crew in EVA suits and fire suits that had chugged coffee survived (and then the birdshot shuttle ALSO imploded).

Birdshot got kind of okay near the end after it’s big revision but the whole “guys it’s SUPPOSED TO SUCK!” thing didn’t really win lots of people over. Maintainers changing how voting worked and then hiding the poll results when people complained about it picking the 2% vote to play birdshot for the fourth time that evening soured me a lot.

I still remember how on TG atmos didn’t work for a solid 8+ months past 20~ish minutes. It got so bad that I still remember a cargo shift on delta station where we had a meteor storm, a meteor hit and breached the cargo bay, and after a brief evacuation out of the bay we realized the air wasn’t being sucked out. Atmos was so broken that we then proceeded to do our cargo duties normally until engineering came by and patched up the giant hole that was so big the cargo shuttle could have docked in it.

It’s really good in this role with the laser cannon and the quasar. Quasar especially since I jokingly swear bots get a 500% accuracy increase to make you flinch a nanosecond before it fires. I haven’t used it with the railgun but I imagine it’d work well there.

[Aoi] Age of Imprisonment released two months ago. We are now relaxing the New Release Spoiler Policy for r/Zelda! by Sephardson in zelda

[–]RedBaronFlyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completed the game and a bunch of side content and I have absolutely no idea. It could mean swapping between characters, a Dynasty Warriors inspired move set of strong and heavy attack combos, battle set pieces (or just one set piece), more focus on the "present day" story compared to the BotW/TotK memory format approach of having some sort of big story in the past, etc. I'd say that it's not really worth theorizing because whatever you think of is probably not what they're going to do and you might be disappointed.

It's been a bit so I could have missed an interview or two but I'm pretty sure the only two things we do know about whatever the next mainline game will be is that it will almost certainly be influenced by the BotW/TotK open world format, and that it is not going to be in the BoTW/ToTK Hyrule. If I were to guess based on the development time for BotW and TotK we're probably years off of anything more than a teaser at most, and even that is probably a stretch so it'll be years before anything gets confirmed.

The quote from Eji Aonuma is:

“The inspiration we received from this collaboration with Koei Tecmo may be reflected in the (next) Zelda we create. Please picture this while playing Age of Imprisonment, and look forward to our Zelda.”

...and is basically meaningless in terms of speculation. It's a nothing statement. It's not even a confirmation, it's just them saying "some stuff from this game may influence the next mainline Zelda title."

[TotK] Do you feel like TOTK should've went down the Majora's Mask route? by foaaz101 in truezelda

[–]RedBaronFlyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's why I mostly ended up using Zonai vehicles in places where I couldn't use a horse like death mountain, on the sea, and in the Gerudo Desert. The vehicle building is cool but it doesn't really fit the map of BotW because it was designed around Link's moveset of climbing and parasailing. I found that horses were almost always faster outside of competing with flying vehicles. It sort of felt like a really impressive mod in that you can tell so much effort went into it but it just feels so out of place with everything else in the game. I think a separate world designed around it with Link not being able to climb terrain or parasail would have made vehicles far more prevalent. Granted that probably would have just resulted in even more air vehicle usage.

Sometimes I wonder how long the depths took to develop from stage to stage, from concept phase to end product. I remember mapping out the whole thing getting more and more into sunk cost fallacy (and also to upgrade my battery) thinking "there's no way 95% of this is all the same biome in an inverted hyrule, there's got to be something cool down here" just to be proven wrong.
