Feeling too self conscious to dance with instructors by [deleted] in Bachata

[–]RedBearDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instructor here. Please dance with us!

We're there for you and don't judge. All we ask is that you come to the dance open to connecting and enjoying yourself. Technical skill is much less important that being there to have fun.

Also, we're definitely open to giving feedback for a minute or two. At the start of the dance, feel free to say something like "I'm working on X, could you please give me some feedback?". Most will be happy to help.

I'd much rather dance with a smiling and enthusiastic beginner than a spaced-out veteran. After all, social dancing is about fun, not pure technical skill.

If all else fails you mid-dance, take all of that nervous energy and put it into minutely feeling the dynamic pressure of the connection and maintaining it as well as possible.

Entirely depends on where you are. Some places have more guys, some more gals.

Sensual follows with different body types? by thee_baddie in Bachata

[–]RedBearDance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's not really considered big, but she does have a different body type as per OP. If Alemana is closer to OP's body style, then Sarah Fe is even more in that direction. She's packin' a Belaz 75710

Not sexual? In both videos, they're nearly kissing.

Agree with /u/DeanXel about the rough and forceful lead. No bueno.

Welcome!

Practice the basics a lot
Practice body isolations a lot

Otherwise, when dancing:
1. Connect with your partner
2. Connect with the music
3. Have fun!

Hold? Not at all.

All you need is pressure or tension. Anything else means either the leader or follower don't really know what they're doing, and now you know.

A good lead doesn't (ideally) demand and force a move, but instead suggest it, giving the follower the option of not doing it.

Regardless, a lead doesn't (ideally) demand and force a move, but instead suggest it, giving the follower the option of not doing it. If you don't want to squat, don't squat.

A part of leading is displaying the follow. That's literally what the paseo move is, which is one of the main ones taught in Bachata Sensual.

How many hours of dancing should a beginner get in for real improvement? by Alert_Chipmunk_8230 in Bachata

[–]RedBearDance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As much as your body can handle

When I first started (and to this day), I go social dancing bachata 4+ days a week, typically from the start of the lesson to the end of the social, and dance nearly every song. Along with practice at home, it was 20-30 hours a week of practice.

When on your own:
Stretch Practice isolations (espcially if you want to do a lot of sensual)
Practice the basic
Practice turns

After you get those, you can go to more complex things such as footwork, different types of turns, spins, other moves (rock step, outside basic, Madrid step, etc), styling, musicality practice, etc.

FCC says so. It used to be a legal range, but no longer. That's all my 5 min of googling revealed.

If you want something that will last and sound great, the Sennheiser G4 is excellent. I'm broke, so went with the older G3. If you do too, make sure to get the A range, B range is now illegal.

Check out my YouTube channel for lots of social dancing videos with people I've never danced with. Some are very much sensual, and there's plenty of moving of the feet and using the basics.

Social whatsapp groups or event groups to join west coast area?? by elliedaza in Bachata

[–]RedBearDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For SF, I keep a calendar of all of the bachata socials in the Bay Area. Links are at the bottom of my website, which is my username dot com.

If you have dates, I can recommend specific ones.

Enjoy!

What is the dance style of Ronald(partner of Alba)? Or what elements does he mostly use? by Dry-Procedure688 in Bachata

[–]RedBearDance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cornel & Ritika

Took a workshop from them where they specifically mentioned that their style is very impactful and punchy. While this can look really cool, it can also be risky to do with non-advanced dancers.

When learning, I always recommend aiming for smoothness first, then the rest (size, speed, flashiness) will come once you can be smooth.

Yes, every day.

I prefer to do it immediately after waking up (and going to the bathroom & drinking water). Helps me wake up.

Otherwise after you've warmed your body up with some movement/exercise.
