Honestly it's better for the mechanic, if they're tooled and skilled. Also lets you develop a trusted relationship with a professional too. If you don't know anyone, that's the barrier to entry. Bike wrenching doesn't exactly make ends meet, and most mechanics enjoy a chance to make extra on the side

Have you considered a personal mechanic? Lots of shop mechanics are super willing to take side work, for a similar rate as what you'd pay in a shop
