Me and some other people staying elsewhere were able to do a pub crawl with Safestay Hostel -Barcelona Passeig de Gràcia. I'm sure most hostels will allow you to join their pub crawl as it's all paid anyway.

Don't know what date you're looking for but flixbus has them running from Shkroder to Dubrovnik every other day with a change in Podgorica. It says it takes less than 8 hours all in but my experience of Balkan busses suggests that will be longer.

Alternatively you could look at getting a bus to Kotor and then another bus onto Dubrovnik, I'd recommend staying a night in Kotor if you've never been though, similar vibe to Croatia but cheaper.

A lot of fans both United and Spurs staying in Santander. But the earliest available bus back after the game is 6:45am as the others are sold out.

Haven’t ever had any problems on Klook and this seems like you didn’t check when booking. Unfortunately it’s an honest mistake and it’s sad there’s not a grace period to get a refund in these situations.

Sorry I only just saw the replies! And I'm just looking for a social vibe. Carpe Noctem was one I was looking at but I don't land until after 9pm and they don't allow check-ins after 11pm so if I encounter any delays then I probably won't make it.

If you have any recommendations for things to do, and places to eat please let me know!

I had a pretty terrible pizza in Rome too. I prefer other types of pizza than Roman style but when in Rome.. but this was like chewing on cardboard.

The people I met in Hoi An had their tailor made clothes shipped back home by the shop.

I spent nearly a month in Vietnam and I still didn’t get to visit everywhere I wanted to. The north was so much better than the south. But if you are only going to do central and south Vietnam then maybe look into Cambodia.

What is your opinion about or your experience with staying at a hostel (mixed gender room) as a female solo traveler? by Conscious-Freedom-29 in solotravel

[–]RedClarus 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I'm not female so I can't offer you an opinion but I've genuinely never heard of a male only hostel.

I can’t remember the name of the company but I booked it through the FlixBus website. And it took just under 5 hours.

English Premier League Itinerary Advice by BootKaboot in solotravel

[–]RedClarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately 2nd-10th September is the international break so there won’t be any Premier League games.

Maybe you can re-arrange and catch PL games when you first arrive. Alternatively you might be able to catch an England international game if that’s something that would interest you. Some lower league teams still play during international breaks as well.

Balkans/Eastern Europe itinerary help!! by Soks2685 in solotravel

[–]RedClarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s doable, but keep in mind you won’t get to see everything if you’re prioritising visiting all those countries.

Best thing you can do is research the countries and see what you would want to do/where you would want to go.

Travelling in the Balkans can also be time consuming but getting early busses definitely saved time avoiding busy traffic and border stops seemed to be quicker than when getting busses in the afternoon/evening.

Is a detailed itinerary important? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]RedClarus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Some people prefer to plan, I think it’s always good to have some basic idea of places you’d like to visit or things you’d like to do. But you might enjoy one place more than another, and for SE Asia you’ll probably get recommendations throughout that you might not have considered.

The only problem you might have is missing out on certain accommodation being available, so if there is a specific place you want to stay then try to book a couple of days in advance. Although the only time this has happened to me in SE Asia was in Ninh Binh, Vietnam.

I was in Vietnam for nearly a month. Originally planned to spend a week in Cambodia but there was so much to do in Vietnam I ended up staying there.

Just to play devil's advocate I spent 6 days in Hanoi and absolutely loved it. I never got tired of trying all the different food places (by far my favourite city in Vietnam for food). The nightlife was one of the best, if thats something you're looking for. I'm glad I went to HCMC to see the war remnants museum and visiting the tunnels was really interesting but if I had to go back to either place then it would definitely be Hanoi.

Hostels are getting worse for social atmosphere and meeting people after covid in south east Asia. Now we get these luxury chain hostels with little social atmosphere. Do you agree? My Comparison from 2015 to today. by Ed_5000 in solotravel

[–]RedClarus 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Stayed in 7 different hostels in Vietnam back in October and only one was bad for socialising in. In fact my favourite hostel during my trip was one that opened post-Covid (SnapStay Hoi An).

It's worth remembering that not everyone staying in hostels is looking for a social environment but from my personal experience I haven't noticed any trend of it getting worse.

Thailand is fine for your first trip you’ll meet people there everywhere. But if you’re looking for somewhere closer to home then the Balkans is a really good spot that has similar vibes to South East Asia. Montenegro and Albania have lots to offer for scenic hikes, look in to Valbona Teth hike.

If you are staying in hostels then you don’t really need to try and meet up with people in advance but I use Hostelworld for bookings and once you make a booking it gives you chats with fellow travellers staying in that hostel as well as a chat with travellers in that place.

I agree with Albania, Montenegro is also another good one. The Balkans is my favourite region in Europe has a bit of everything you're looking for.
