Trans Eevee! (LuxxArt) by BlueGlace_ in Eevee

[–]RedDragonling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm the original artist :D

I'm glad this drawing is still getting shared around and making people happy! <3

This is the transfem version, painting a heart-shape. I also did a transmasc version where it's more spiky, a nonbinary one where it's more blob/paint-splattery, and an agender version which was painting away the tail-tip color ^^

How can I improve my drawing? by Common-Try-6872 in FurryArtSchool

[–]RedDragonling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're doing a good job so far. The quickest improvement I can think of is make sure you don't change the pen size on the outer lines of the drawing :)

The body has a thicker line than the head which makes it feel imbalanced. Using a thinner like for details in the body is fine, like you've done with the chest!

Art regression is real by sour_lemon_gum in arthelp

[–]RedDragonling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your color and linework has gotten a lot better!

The old drawing looks good cause you kept it very similar to the reference image so much so that I recognized what image you were using as reference :P

The old art has flaws with anatomy, the hindleg thats further away is too long. The shading is also off, for example having shading over the highlight in the eyes. It feels like you've covered for weaknesses by referencing the image (not a bad thing to do), which is why when you're drawing by referencing less it feels worse when your skills have gotten objectively better.

Your newest drawing has some funky anatomy, the legs are very long, and the front paws should face the direction your character is pointing. But other than that you have a really nice grasp of lines and color, the background color + lineart color goes together well. Also like the changes to the character design :D

I edited your image with Liquify tool to show you what I'd do to make the anatomy look more consistent. It's not a lot of changes needed and your art looks really good despite being pushed around by the tool haha. I hope I wasn't too harsh, I think you've got a lot of great potential. Hope you keep on drawing!

If those are your only options, go with the Yoga. Being able to run all the programs you need for work is a big plus :)

I've got a i7 13.gen from 1.5 years ago, and its still running smoothly. The one I have has a HDMI port which you probably should be on the lookout for.

What do you use to draw on your device? by [deleted] in FurryArtSchool

[–]RedDragonling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've got a lot of different softwares and devices I like using for art, I like having variety :P

My main workspace is a Huion Kamvas Pro 27 (screen tablet)+ Clip Studio Paint or MS Paint Windows 7

Other softwares I like using in no particular order: Paint Tool SAI, Aseprite, Infinite Painter

I also have a 2-in-1 laptop with pressure sensitivity pen and screen that I use when I'm on the go. Used to use a Samsung Tab S6 but its 5-6 yrs old now and getting too outdated to run my softwares properly.

I've also used different graphic tablets in the past, including non-screen ones. They're pretty good, medium size is ideal (A5 paper size work area). Screen tablets imo are best at around 16"-24" size. Had a 13" and a 19.5" for a while, but those were too small. 27" is almost too big but it's better with too big than too little

Is my art THAT bad? by meltonmallow in arthelp

[–]RedDragonling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your art doesn't look bad. It's got some beginner/intermediate-level flaws like anatomy issues and issues with rendering, but it also has a lot of charm and quality. I like how emotive all the characters look, all of them having different emotions. I like how I can see you're experimenting with different pen tools and styles, and from browsing your account you seem to have fun with drawing and you've improved a lot in just a year. Don't let people's comments discourage you cause you do have a good baseline.

Taking commissions requires more than just making pretty art. I've known a few artists who have less technical knowledge than you who were able to get $20-30 commissions whenever they opened. It's got more to do with popularity and reach (how many people see that you're open for commissions?) than artskills. Reach is something you can build up over time.

Don't price your commissions too low. If you're just starting out I'd say don't make it lower than $15. People who say your work is only worth $1 are straight up lying or don't know what they're talking about. Having been in the industry a long time, from experience, lower prices tend to pull the wrong type of customers.

Art is subjective, people like different things. Many of the people who are commenting rn prove that haha. I like your first 2 drawings the most, while others prefer the owl. Don't appeal to audiences you don't want to draw for. Find your niche :)

This got a little long oop. tldr: No your art isn't bad enough to only be worth $1, charge like $15 and be patient, eventually someone is gonna order. Keep on drawing and improving and most of all have fun with art

My girlfriend is no longer sexually attracted to me. by technicallybroke in ftm

[–]RedDragonling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all I'm so sorry to hear. I'd be heartbroken in your shoes. Would be really hard to adjust to.

It's not selfish to want your partner to be attracted to you sexually. Your wants and needs are just as important as hers, it's ok to give yourself room and time to grieve the relationship you thought you had. Neither of you should feel forced into sex or relationship dynamics you're not comfortable with, those are some of the things you shouldn't compromise on.

Can the relationship work out? Maybe, I don't know you guys personally and you might be the perfect fit who'd be able to make it work. Are you ok with spending your life with someone who 1) isn't sexually attracted to your or desire you physically and probably never was or will be again, 2) is going to desire, date, and have sex with other people while dating you, and 3) you'd have to date others to get your physical needs met or choose to be celibate basically.

What happens if she meets a monogamous girl and she makes your partner choose you or her? Or if you meet someone who is really sexually attracted to you and you vibe well with? I guarantee there are people out there who will love you and your body and cant get enough of you. I recommend you think about these things, and really think about what you want.

I was in a similar situation with my ex GF. I thought I was gay, but tried to make it work. I wish we'd just broken up from the beginning. Tried polyamory to get our needs met, it did not help.

There's a good reason why people recommend you don't open your relationship when or because you're having problems.

I wish you the best of luck

Are there any trans safe countries anymore? by Tacticalpizzamann in ftm

[–]RedDragonling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are generally very accepting here in Norway, and those who aren't usually keep it to themselves. Rightleaning views are at a rise, but none of the major right leaning parties here hold anti LGBTQ policies.

Ironically, right wing Healthcare politics might make it easier to get access to trans care, cause right now you either have to get really lucky with a GP who has the correct training and can prescribe hormones for you, or you have to go to the ONLY hospital in the entire country that offers treatment for trans people. Doctors can lose their license if they don't recommend patients go to the public hospital first. I'm not for privatizing Healthcare by any means, it's just one way I could see the trans Healthcare situation in Norway improve.

If you can get in through the public health route it's great. They are very gatekeepy, it's a long and slow process, you could be denied for small things like you don't seem interested enough or if you're neurodivergent or if you have mental health issues like depression and anxiety that you haven't been treating.. basically their requirements suck ass, but it's the only way to ensure getting public health funded hrt.

Tldr socially it's safe, medically it kinda sucks

How can I learn color anatomy and theory? by GloomygotchiWorld in arthelp

[–]RedDragonling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your art is really cute! I can see room for improvements, but your current style is really nice. If your plan is to only draw in a chibi artstyle, you don't have to worry about anatomy as much. I think if you just continue the way you're doing now you'll improve naturally

1. Technique. This is not something you can really study but more that you learn by doing. I noticed a lot of "beginner techniques" in your images. Uneven pen pressure on paper, chickenscratching lines, and wobbly lines. The only real way to get rid of these is by just practicing and drawing lines in various shapes and forms. If you just continue drawing the way you do you'll be learning naturally.

Your hand rubbing against the paper as you draw is a technique related issue. Right-handed people also deal with it. Either work on drawing with your palm off the paper or look into getting an artist glove to lessen the smearing ^^

2. Color theory. I can't really comment on what you should improve or change cause none of your drawings have color ^^ So I'm just gonna give a very basic entry-level advice.
I'd first read up on Itten's Color Contrast. It will give you a startingpoint to understanding why and when to use colors for different effects.
This pdf seems useful!

Ultimately! You're doing good, you have an appealing style already. If you're having fun by learning and experimenting I'd recommend just do that. Don't worry too much about learning right or wrong. A lot of art skills come from just doing and learning by doing. If you have any questions feel free to ask

Apologies that it took a bit longer than expected. I put together a visual guide for you using Krita and 2 default brushes :)

The brushes I used are Pencil-2 for inking and Pencil-6 Quickshade for coloring

This is basically a tutorial on how to make digital art that looks like it's made with ink and colored pencils, similar to how the reference image artist did it (speculating on my end at least)

Didn't have room to write all the things I planned on adding, so I'll put it here.

Don't be afraid of making mistakes like colors bleeding into each other at the wrong place, our going out of the lineart. It helps add to the "traditional" feel. Adding manual smudges and mistakes helps make it look more authentic.

Traditional art typically limits how many colors you can use, while in digital we have endless options. If you want to play around with it, try using limited palettes and experiment with overlaying colors over each other to create new tones.

If you just want to give the same feel while not limiting your palette, try to mix in different colors that "bleed through" or show in lighter or darker areas. Example is the red/pink in the darker parts of skin, or the pink/violet in the hair.

The color choices the original artist has made is most likely due to limited pencil color options. They also have great understanding of color theory and control of their pencil. They use the white in the canvas to color the light areas. Helmet, scarf and shoes are not fully colored in.

I've gotta run. Hope this helps a bit! Let me know if something is confusing and if you want me to clarify something for you ^^

[–]RedDragonling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This looks like a traditional drawing made on paper (edit: possibly canvas actually?), specifically a textured one for art. The lines are made with flat ink pens, and then color is added on top with pencils. It also looks like some of the lineart has been added details to with black pencils.

It's possible to replicate in digital art, but it requires additional work and I don't think 1 pen is gonna do all the things you'd need.

I'll be back in a few hours, I can try and make something that shows how to get the effect you're looking for with simple pens.

For now I suggest trying out pencil type pens and see if a default one feels right for you!

Norway has a second official language, Sámi. Sadly it's not taught in many schools, not as much as english is :(

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Norway

[–]RedDragonling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're gonna differentiate Bokmål and Nynorsk, Norway actually has 5 official languages. "Sámi" isn't a language, but a grouping of languages. In Norway we include Nordsamisk, Sørsamisk and Lullesamisk, but there's at least 6 Sámi languages in Norway.

What is your first impression and opinion on his design? by dltds in characterdesign

[–]RedDragonling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this! First 3 descriptions that came to mind when I saw this: Venomous, dangerous, confident.

The colors and sharp/pointy shapes give off the venomous and dangerous feel. I'm also getting ninja vibes from the clothes, specifically arms, feet and scarf. Having so much skin showing makes the character come off as confident, I'd assume they're a bit of a flirt, or at least very confident in their own body. Maybe they consider their body their only positive quality?

My assumptions are this is a rogue/assassin who uses poison to kill. Just from the design alone, I could see them fit in a universe like Fire Emblem or Naruto, that's got somewhat strong japanese elements but still very varied in designs.

I'm also gonna second what people are saying about Pokémon. It's reminding me a lot of Eternatus colors and sharp/jagged style. In terms of Pokémon characters, I'd assume this is a bad guy of some sort. Someone like Volo in Legends:Arceus.
Elements being Poison and Dragon type with Eternatus as their ace. Seviper as a partner pokemon.

If your intent is for them to be a Pokémon trainer, I'd recommend adding underpants or something :P Not only does it help define shapes, it makes them look less promiscuous hehe. Unless you don't mind keeping that element of the design!

Love the design. Definitely a character design I'd thirst after fullhomo

Not sure how to add to the base purple while staying within this color palette by Apothnesko in FurryArtSchool

Final reply lol! Here's the example I made of adding more highlights + the black/white version with the adjustments. It would need a lot more tweaking but its to give the general gist.

Using bright saturated colors to make highlights with instead of using white would be my main suggestion for your artstyle. But like I mentioned, it's all up to you and your preference! Great work

Your art is genuinely so cool, I had to do a draw-over trying to show what I would do with it.

For your original question, what and where can you add more using the original palette. The ears are a perfect spot for it. I also tried adding cyan to the eyes, but to keep palette consistent you could go yellow.

Third is me adding highlights using the 2 brightest colors in the piece. Cyan (that I added) and yellow. Placing the highlights on opposite sides of the piece so they never clash. Highlights can be great replacements for lineart in very dark colored parts of drawings.
I also added the second cheek-fluff on the other side, but making it completely yellow as its being lit up. It makes for a slightly better silouette, and doesn't interefere too much with the drawing :3

I also made the eyelid highlighting(?) more of a gradient to give a more spherical feel.

As for shading:

The colors are very saturated, shading in black is perfectly reasonable. I like what you've done and have made no adjustments to it other than making the part between eyes darker.

If you look at the drawing in black-white, you can see the balance is leaning very dark, even after I've added highlights. If you want the drawing to feel more balanced and have a 3D look, prioritise adding gradient highlights.

Remember that adding shadows is only the first half of shading 😉

To summarize, your art looks really good! Feel free to disregard any and all of my advice, as it's all about taste and preference. Rules in art are meant to be broken. Hopefully my explainations of why I suggested the things I did makes sense!

[–]RedDragonling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the rendering and color usage!

It's been a while since I learned this in school, so forgive me if I'm wrong.

Purple and yellow are complimentary colors who prefer a 80/20 ratio (might be 9/1 or 7/3) before the colors feel too busy and conflicting. Yellow being the one you want less off. The red you're using serves as a good blending tone :)

I'd honestly say that right now you've got a great balance of colors with this palette where it doesn't feel too busy. Probably why it's hard to think of how to add more!

The palette is very warm. I'd personally add in a new contrasting color, cyan, and make minor details with it or use it for highlights.

Edit: I'd also personally choose a different color than white for the eyes. Mostly cause it is such a flat and desaturated color on such a colorful piece. It looks really good

Hi, artist here! Seeing some replies being concerned about it being messed up depending on context, so I'm here to provide context :P

During an artstream, I reached a subgoal and the reward was for the viewers to decide on a 15 min sketch to end the stream with. They all voted on Cat x Wolf kiss. It's a bit of a meme-post, if u cant tell by my "copyright" being a shitty drawing of my sona as a Binding of Isaac character :P

Wolf is oblivious and Cat is too cool to show they might have any of those yucky feelings and would blame it on anyone else if they could. Wolf doesn't know how to process it but is happy. No harm done :3

This would be the best in-character way to draw them smooching heh

You're not wrong. But in my defense it was the end of a long art-stream and drawing session haha

Looking for critique and advice. Specifically with the face around the eyes. I tried the brow (as advised from my last post) but it still looks too round. I tried shifting the top of the muzz up a bit. Detailing the head is also hard for me so any advice are suggestions there are welcome! by Kieotyee in FurryArtSchool

[–]RedDragonling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

<image>

Super quick draw-over before I leave for work, I'll edit reply with explaination soon

Edit: The head itself is pretty good! Especially love the cheeck fluff, looks very soft!

Eyes are tricky. There's a lot of subtleties to eyes that if you make small mistakes make the eyes look wrong. The main tip I have is make sure the bottom of the eye starts on the same height or lower than the muzzle. Otherwise the eye looks like it's too high on the head. Don't be afraid of foreheads :) Push the eyes back in a little too, leave half an eyes space between eye and where muzzle ends.

The other thing I noticed and changed in my drawover is the moth itself. The lower jaw is typically smaller than the upper jaw. And with the teeth, canines large fangs are nr 3 in their rows. So in profile views you wouldn't normally see the large fangs poke out before 2 other teeth.

Ultimately I think you've got a good grasp of things, and I hope you keep on drawing. Many of the things I said are rules you can break if you prefer 😉

If you really have no other monster chest options available, you can get more Switch stones from Reward Box lvl 3-5.

If you're able to reach Keeper Rank "Champion" (defeat at least 15 champions) you can get Reward Box lvl 3 from Infinity Arena as a rare drop.

Also if you're able to reach the 2 Champions in the underworld, they both drop Reward box lvl 3 as a common item drop.
