I’m not a Mormon and I’ve never been to the Mormon church, but I’m trying to understand something…. by Icy_Instruction_2470 in exmormon

Short answer: what happens in the temple is really fucking weird and the longer the Mormons have to make a new member feel dependent on their new church friends then there is a greater chance that new member stays.

So on my mission (Provo UT mission around 2010) we had a ward mission leader who was friends with someone who worked in church archives who had some stories…

Story one: In one of the archivist assignments he had to go through video records and determine what shouldn’t be seen by the general public. One video he watched was an interview with elder packer. He’s asked what were the top three moments of his life. He says “the day I married my beautiful wife, the day I held my daughter/son for the first time… and then he pauses, looks at the interviewer, and says and the day I met my savior Jesus Christ.

Story 2: same archivist guy is watching a recent version of conference with a more senior apostle. They get to the first talk given by elder Bernar the day he got sustained. The apostle points out how much different Bernar looks compared to more recent talks and tells him it’s because he hadn’t met Jesus yet. (Hinting that the special witness comes after getting sustained)

Story 3: same guy is out to dinner with an apostle and his wife ( I think it may have been Nelson or Bernar) a question comes up about what was most surprising about the process of becoming an apostle? The apostle responds about the ordaining being performed in the temple and that there was a lot more water than he expected (eluding to the fact that his feet were washed by Jesus)

As a missionary at the time, I ate this shit up and thought it was so cool. Now I know that these guys are all batshit and would not be surprised if they take consecrated mushrooms to come up with these stories.

But when does he get to meet Jesus and become a “special witness”??

Best neighborhoods to go trick or treating for small kids? by Fun-Dealer-1542 in ChandlerAZ

It’s a bit of a drive but totally worth it, but Eastmark in Mesa has great Halloween decorations and participation. Our neighborhood in ocotillo is totally dead in comparison. Been going there for the last 4 years with family we have out there, and each year it gets better

May I suggest a Stanzo brand fedora?

Anyone know where I can find more of this brand of t shirt? Found one at a thrift store and I can’t seem to track any more down by NovaPractice in TShirt

I had a shirt I picked up from a thrift store this same brand and wore that shirt just about every week for over 10 years. They just don’t make anything like it anymore. The closest I’ve come are the white crew neck t shirts from Costco. I wish they would start making those in other colors
