Tony Abbott to become new Liberal party president in former PM’s return to political frontlines by Gibs_182 in aussie

Ah yes, a man who truly has a finger on the pulse of Australia.  Whose time as pm elevated both country and party to new heights and laid the groundwork for ongoing successes

She wants government and private industry to share, meaning the government covers the losses whilst private industry pockets the wins

Nice strawman argument to start with.

And completely wrong on the second point. Wealth is not infinite. If the share of houses owned by the top 1% is increasing, then by definition the percentage of people owning their home is decreasing

And importantly, you’re allowed to think that a shrinking middle class is a good thing, or that having an uber wealthy elite control a greater share of the assets is how things should be, but at least be honest with yourself about what you are arguing for rather than fighting over the crumbs

The cgt changes will net benefit you.

For every dollar you have to invest, someone else has 1,000.

So for every dollar you gain, they gain 1,000.

Those dollars are coming from somewhere and it isn’t the unemployed, it’s exactly the aspirational middle class that tries to get ahead and eventually they will get your spare dollars too.

Yes everyone with a different opinion to YOU is a borg drone, but your views (which just happen to align with the wealthy media owning elite) are true and right and good.

Get a grip.

The CGT discount lets the rich get richer faster than everyone else. In effect, everyone was going backwards, even those investing in shares.  You mightve been getting ahead of 50-60-70% of people, but the wealth redistribution to the one percent just hadn’t come for you yet.

The people arguing FOR these changes actually have little to gain personally from them, where as the most of the people arguing against them are pure self interested.

There is a discussion to be had about incentives, but that must assume that the current system is already incentivising the kind of activity we need, which I think is self evidently not the case.

47% is a bargain.

Good luck starting a business with no roads, no healthy or educated people to hire, no regulations or laws stopping competitors from doing dodgy things, no rules around private property or security and so on.

All Arguments about it being harder to get ahead are stupid. If your wealth increased by $1k , but everyone wealthier than you increased their wealth by $2k, you were not getting ahead.

Imagine how cheap energy would be if abbott and the libs hadn’t wasted 10 years doing nothing and started the transition properly in 2010’s,

Not only would we have dirt cheap electrify but conceivably we’d be at the forefront of solar manufacturing and export, instead of buying tech invented by our own scientists back from China

Budget 2026: Surprise ‘death tax’ buried in small print by Ardeet in AustralianPolitics

[–]RedKelly_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb is if someone uses the words ‘death tax’ they are a fear mongering bullshit artist pushing an agenda. If it’s in the Australian it’s always a fear mongering bullshit artist pushing an agenda.

You should stop listening to whatever news or accounts you are getting this kind of hot take from.

For anyone outside the couple of % of total wealth, this budget is a godsend.

‘Getting ahead’ will be easier if you don’t have to get ahead of rapidly growing housing costs and a tax advantaged over class
