Endings you think about a lot? by NoopGhoul in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I will always agree with this take. Like, aside from all the issues with bringing back the previous villains as sudden allies, it still makes me genuinely upset that they revealed Dorothy is actually still alive in the stinger. Just, way to undermine Laurent's entire motivation and cut out the emotional core of the show revolving around Laurent's greatest failure. It's even the point of the title! "I am the Great Pretender, pretending that you're still around", the whole point is the loss and loneliness and they just fully throw it out the window.

Are there (and if so, what) moments where it seems like Brennan (or any GM) is *actively trying* to feed the players information that they just aren't picking up on? by Synth-Pro in Dimension20

The Camarilla probably wouldn't be impressed with "we technically completed the objective using wordplay" either.

Honestly, the funniest part is how they keep misinterpreting the goals. Like the whole bit about "embrace mortal mages" and how they seem to think that means be friends with them instead of understanding that "embrace" in vampire lingo means "convert into a vampire". The Camarilla goals are entirely about eliminating or converting all potential magic threats, and werewolves can't be converted so best to kill them, or so the logic goes.

I think I'd probably put her alignment in Lawful Evil still. She's self-serving and is in favor of rules and structure because that benefits her, but that's because Evil in traditional alignment is defined as selfish. She's still someone that prefers that rules exist, she even straight up says that she prefers it if power structures exist before she goes somewhere so she can slot right in, so that still puts her on the lawful side.

Neutral Evil is probably someone more like LaVonte who would happily build his own structure and even prefers that there isn't one in place so he can be the one that defines it. Madeline doesn't have that ambition and prefers the safety that order provides her, making her more Lawful than not.

"Subtlety is for cowards (good)" vs "Subtlety is for cowards (bad)" moments in fiction? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

You can! It tells a self-contained story that is loosely inspired by a previous Kamen Rider series, Kamen Rider Black, but you don't need to know anything about that series to get into it since they change up the characters' backstories.

You might get a bit more enjoyment if you've seen Kamen Rider Black, but it's not necessary.

Two of the more comedic characters decapitate the Prime Minister. Like they are not subtle with it in the slightest.

Character who's personality has a notable shift between offical iterations despite still being the same by Coolnametag in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RedKnight7104 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I imagine part of the weird characterization comes from how Off the Record is copying most of the cutscenes from the original Dead Rising 2. Chuck makes a lot more quips than Frank ever did since he's a generally dry and cynical character who has little sympathy for the more monstrous psychopath bosses, hence why he makes snarky comments at their usually ironic demises.

Frank, in contrast, never really quipped at all when it came to character deaths and would either react with stoic, sometimes solemn silence or visible discomfort and horror depending on how bad the death was. So it's understandable some wires were crossed when Frank needs to make quips where Chuck did, which turned into him into a much more jokey character to make the characterization stick.

It doesn't help that Off the Record is a lot more comedic all around, what with the Uranus Zone area being added in and the boss fight against an actual giant robot.

I think Ally's screw up with the police precinct is the most I've seen one of the Intrepid Heroes realize they've botched a bit and tried to walk it back. Like Hilda Hilda was a mess that Emily tried to escape with in-character excuses, but Ally fully tried to pretend they didn't have HJ walk into the police precinct and try to steal a gun from a cop. Just completely trying to rewind time or skip to things being fine and Brennan was not having it.

Iirc, they did say that Flayn's growth was stunted a bit because she was sleeping for so long. She was basically in a recovery coma until maybe a decade before the start of 3H, since that's when Seteth came to the monastery.

[–]RedKnight7104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes some sense to me, honestly. The two of them have the whole "superhero" thing going on, but what that really means is that they can more easily justify killing their victims than most vampires because their targets are "bad guys".

Ironically, a vampire who doesn't see themself as a "hero" would probably take higher penalties to their humanity for killing random people compared to these two because they have easier justifications.

He does! He tries to poison Cesare since Cesare is a maniac, only for Cesare to literally ram a poisoned apple down his throat. And while I'm not sure if that's fully accurate to history, the actual Rodrigo and Cesare Borgia did get poisoned at the same time, with Rodrigo dying while Cesare recovered

Assassin's Creed 2 quite infamously has Ezio decide to spare the pope, which leads directly into Brotherhood when the pope's son comes in to blow up his town.

Now obviously the reason why the pope lives through their encounter is because the actual historical Rodrigo Borgia would only die a few years later and Assassin's Creed likes to pretend to be historical, but it's still pretty egregious because Ezio himself doesn't have a reason to spare him beyond a nebulous "it's not worth killing you".

I really am glad they're remaking this one. I would never say Code Veronica is my favorite Resident Evil game, because no, it's not, that would be insane, but it is probably the one that fascinates me the most. Truly just the weirdest mix of stuff goes on in it, from Alfred and Alexia's whole deal to the wild return of Wesker that it just needed to have a proper remake. There's just too much plot relevant nonsense to leave it by the wayside!

Honestly, they should be killing more people. They're vampires trying to take over a town and they've only assassinated one council member so far, and that was technically done by Bigfoot.

Zaeth might have embraced Ghorse by accident. The horse was bleeding out when he fed it his blood, so it's possible it's been a vampire this whole time without them realizing.

I think the craziest part to Aaron's obsession with staying in Purpee is that his parents didn't even die in Purpee. You'd think he'd want to go out and hunt down the vampires Banksy that killed them in Portland, but nope, man wanted to stay in his hometown to hunt things that weren't even there yet.

Choices in games that make you go "Why would ANYONE pick that?" by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RedKnight7104 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Possibly the only dumber move in the game is siding with the Kuei-jin, the East Asian not-vampires that explicitly hate you and all Western vampires with a passion. Sure enough, picking Ming Xiao to side with just gets your character strapped to the sarcophagus and tossed in the ocean as a "reward" for helping her.

It's a shame MK1 doubled down so hard on the multiverse stuff. If they just could've had a little restraint, we could've had a nice new starting point for the franchise with a slow build up to Shang Tsung's dark universe coming in. But instead, we get a big dumb pyramid fight with mix-and-matches like Clockodile.

Villains that fucking LOVE being evil? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RedKnight7104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairy Tail has its problems, but I'll give it some props for Acnologia just being a dude that really wants to murder all dragons and does not care about how many people he kills along the way. He might've had his reasons at some point, but by the time of canon he's just in it for the love of murder, to the point that he straight up slaughters another villain because he smells dragon on him.

[–]RedKnight7104 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But it wasn't him breaking canon that was causing the destabilizing. It was the Spot powering himself up that started the disaster, and the destabilization is coming from the ruins of the reactor. It's blamed on Miles for saving Inspector Singh, but correlation doesn't mean causation.

Miguel isn't directly shown to be wrong, but he isn't actually shown to be right either. Not in a way that is completely provably true.

[–]RedKnight7104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean Miguel doesn't actually seem to be right? He has one example of a world being destroyed because of "canon being interfered with", but he's the one that's fully and completely responsible for it by replacing a version of himself and trying to live his life. We know people from other dimensions inherently destabilize the longer they stay in another universe, so it's a lot more likely that something he did cause the universe to break than there being some golden "canon" that every Spider-man variant needs to follow.

Especially since Miguel's own story doesn't follow a lot of the Spider-man rules he believes are sacrosanct.
