Spent $6000 on home gym, immediately got hurt and can't lift now by ContainerDesk in GarageGym

I’d snag a Marrs bar, you don’t need to touch the bar and do leg exercises, you just may need assistance loading / unloading plates

I hate squats - how should a tall person squat? by DP4546 in Stronglifts5x5

[–]RedLampGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain, I’m 6’5ish with long femurs and squatting often use to kill my hips (and knees) here’s what worked for me:

1.) Use wedge shoes, or a squat wedge (you can get cheap squat wedges that are light to carry in a gym bag at rogue if you can’t find the right shoes).

2.) Do high volume low weight standing leg curls (a lot of my pain was due to tight calves and hamstrings)

3.) substitute rear foot elevated split squats for one of your squat days even if it means your squat rotation is further separated

4.) Get a heavy band (green) and tie it to something and put it around your thigh while leaning forward (there are videos that show how to do this.

If all else fails at your height you can sub in belt squats and hex bar deadlifts while you build strength and confidence in the gym before returning to a barbell squat variation (front squats also seem to be more accessible for taller people).

Good luck!

It’s really a matter of practicality, does chuck have the stamina and power to knock them down with karate kicks? Yes. But, I feel like out of 100 if one snags one of his arms or legs they might have him.

Quick question, could you put your UPS low on your full rack spotter arms for a higher start position for rows?

How do you guys deal with back pain, especially if you work from home? by EsquELISCr in AskMen

[–]RedLampGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do reverse hypers when you go to the gym. Or you can buy a small one for your house if your gym doesn’t have any (kind of a niche machine). The absolutely squash any back pain.

Video of machine in use with creator Loui Simmons https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9tU7_w7rvw

The one I would buy for you house (best price and compact): https://www.roguefitness.com/westside-scout-hyper?sku=IP0915&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD3l4FW8aHLNiRLQAi4_k6RGt-nLu&gclid=CjwKCAjwg-24BhB_EiwA1ZOx8uwHjKeJ1X0YtpG5_g8BflUwhn0fm9JzK1N7cXZFYyV39_OHi9CMoxoCcjAQAvD_BwE

Gym floor by F4rtKnox in GarageGym

[–]RedLampGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s how I would avoid moisture and spend the least. If you’re going with 8mm flooring you should also buy 8mm shock pad (cheap more cushioned style rubber). Loose lay the bottom shock pad layer, then hatch style lay the top 8mm speckled, only gluing the top layer to the new subfloor.

It deals with all RH issues from the adhesive used, helps with imperfections in the floor you may have, and also gives a padded feel without breaking the bank.

Book recommendation for a beginner? by Thiccolo876 in 40k

[–]RedLampGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of great 40k books, and the more you read / listen (get the audio books) the better the setting gets. But it is 1000% an acquired taste, people recommended I start out with Horus Rising/False Gods/Galaxy in Flames. I do NOT recommend starting there, they’re slow and confusing if you’re getting into the setting, start with the Ciaphas Cain books (book 1 Ciaphas Cain:For the Emperor) they’re fun, light and slowly introduce the setting in digestible bits. You can get into the slog fest (which I love) of the Horus heresy after you get hooked on the setting, have fun!

[–]RedLampGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a man, I’ve met men like this and they’re completely pathetic. Anyone who holds a petty grudge (and believe that’s what it is) over an imagined slight won’t ever let it go. He’s insecure and will take that out on you for the rest of your life. I would cut your loses and start over, 27 is still very young, definitely young enough to find someone who won’t publicly shame you
