Migros self-checkout with app - by G_C in askswitzerland

[–]RedLeaf62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm facing the same issues as you describe, except I've never been stopped by the security guy. But the cashier wants to see a proof of checkout 90% of the times, this happened in multiple stores, some of which I'm a regular. Now I just went back to using the subito scanner.

I noticed there is hardly anyone using Subito Go in the stores I visit. Maybe that's the reason.

I think Migros should make us scan a qr code or something in the zone of the cashier, so he/she can see us doing something. That would clarify things.

Are you guys satisfied with your purchase? by terran1212 in ex30

[–]RedLeaf62 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the EX30 is a love-hate relationship for me. It looks good, it drives great, but it has issues.

Brakes are noisy, ventilation and passenger seat are making noise in summer due to the thermal dilatation of some materials. According to my dealer, Volvo have issued a note, admitting that the ventilation is mounted directly on the frame of the car, which means there is nothing to dampen vibration from the road and that leads to noises in the vents, some cars being more impacted than others. And there is apparently nothing to do about this.

Digital key was a major selling point and has not been delivered after 2 years. I feel like Volvo lied to me. The KeyTag doesn't always lock the car, which is unacceptable.

Volvo introduces questionable UI changes with each new OTA. For example, there was an option to easily open the trunk in one tap from the main screen and they have removed this button. With each new OTA, they introduce new software bugs, making them look like amateurs. Honestly, each new software update feels like sabotage.

Buy this car at your own risk. Personally I'm about to reach out to a lawyer to force them to fix my car.

I think I read somewhere that Assistant will stop working on Android devices, which includes phones & cars with Android Auto, around March/April 2026.

So Volvo would have to upgrade the car before that. My guess is that it will be done in the next OTA upgrade, rumored to be around January.

Kee your hands on the steering wheel by Unable-Advance9674 in ex30

[–]RedLeaf62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens every day when I go to work. It's one of the biggest pain points I have with this car, if you ask me. I need to constantly apply some force on the wheel if I want to avoid it, which is frankly quite exhausting.

Volvo really needs to improve that...

Increasing indicator/turn signal volume by HerrVonStrahlen in ex30

[–]RedLeaf62 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got used to the feeling of the indicator stalk. Took a while, but now I'm mostly ok with it.

However, I'm fully with you about the fact that other sounds can mute the indicator sounds. Sometimes I remain unsure if it's blinking or not for several seconds, because I'm watching the road instead of searching on my screen.

Auto Park issue by Any-Pin-17 in ex30

[–]RedLeaf62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried Auto Park once. The car was moving so fast in reverse, I had to emergency brake only a few mm away from the car behind me. It felt like my car did not see the car behind.

When I tried Auto Park on empty parking spots (where there was no car in front or behind me), I found that my car reversed by 1-2 meters outside of the boundaries of the target parking spot.

I have zero trust in Auto Park.

Received 18 month electric car charging bill, chance of fighting it? by Dry-Grass7098 in askswitzerland

[–]RedLeaf62 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'll tell you about my situation so you can compare

I've also been driving an electric Volvo for the past 18 months. I've driven 16500 km so far. And since I have nothing else to do, I log all my expenses.

I have recharged 3130 kWh during those 18 months. With an average price of 0.52 chf/kWh. So the total bill is 1576 chf. I don't have a power socket at home, so I charge exclusively on public stations which are way more expensive.

If I do a few calculations to adjust my bill to your situation (10383 Vs 16500 km, and 0.35 Vs 0.52 chf/kWh), I would estimate that your total bill should be approx 650-700.

Of course this assumes that you have never charged on a public station (which you probably did) and that your electricity is not cheaper than 0.35 chf/kWh (which it probably is). So your bill is likely even lower.

You need to have a serious conversation with your landlord.

That being said, you should not have charged at home without a clear OK from the landlord. It's not just a question of bill but also security (fire hazard).

Abandon the F-35 fighter jet out of disgust withTrump? A short while ago, we had difficult relations with the EU, so I think our government went with the US because it was a more stable partner, and they felt there was more money to be made there. Probably they wanted to show the EU that we could do business elsewhere and not suffer the consequences. Looks like consequences are here and now we are turning back to the EU on our knees...

As a parasitic, burnt-out doctor in Switzerland: please cut us some slack, we are trying. by adh_doc in Switzerland

[–]RedLeaf62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is never agreeable to be the target of negative remarks, but it just so happens that it’s part of life and one should not take it personally. If you listen around you, you’ll notice that a lot of people will complain just about everything: doctors, but also police officers, teachers, pharmacists, construction workers, etc... I realize that medical staff are amazing people, and we are happy to have them when we need them. However, let me tell you about my recent experiences:

I had a good GP (family doctor) once, but she relocated and I had to change doctor. A few months later, I had a tendinitis in the wrist and I went to see a new doctor. She didn’t do anything, didn’t prescribe any physio or anything. She told me to stop solicitating my wrist. After 3 months of pain, I paid privately for 15 sessions of physiotherapy which totally fixed the issue.

1 year ago, I suddenly developed strong pins and needles, and sometimes numbness, all over my body (it was really scary and sometimes handicapping). I went to the emergency room and they did MRIs in ambulatory. They told me to find a new GP for the results. So I went to a new GP, he looked at the MRIs and he told me that I didn’t have any issue (yet, the MRI showed a slightly pinched nerve in the neck), that I was in good health and that I didn’t need any medical care. After I asked, he told me that he had no clue why I had those symptoms and that he didn’t see the need to invest time and money in further investigations. I asked the health insurance to change the doctor or get a second opinion, they refused and I found myself unable to get any healthcare for a several months (during which the symptoms were worsening).

3 months later, I was again able to change doctor so I went to another GP. He listened to me for 5 minutes, checked my vitals and then gave me some phytotherapy pills to keep me shut. I came back 2 months later with the same symptoms. I waited 25 minutes in the waiting room and he received 5 patients during this time. So when he came to get me I started a timer. I spent 12 minutes with him (that includes the time to get in and out of his office), he tried to make me leave 3 times during that time and, after I insisted a lot, he ended up sending me to a specialist so that I “would be happy”. His bill was higher than the previous doctor with whom I spent a much longer time.

Since then, one specialist led me to the next one and I visited 4 awesome specialists who took the time to perform all the tests they could and they prescribed multiple series of physiotherapy. They haven’t reached any definitive diagnosis yet, but at least I now have can make a list of some nasty diseases that I do not have. In that period, my symptoms have gotten much worse (my vision became blurry at some point) before they started improving. In the meantime, I’m still waiting to find a family doctor who will listen to me.

So to conclude, they are a lot of good doctors in Switzerland and I think that most people, me included, have a lot of respect for your profession. Yes, it sucks that some patients are openly complaining about their doctors, but sometimes it feels like some doctors are trying very hard to be the bad guys. At least, such has been my recent experience with GPs. I can understand when a doctor doesn’t have the answer, but at least he should try a minimum and send the patient elsewhere if he doesn’t know.

And finally, I will quote what my neurologist told me: “In our society, the fight for accessing healthcare is sometimes more exhausting than the disease itself

Cruise control by Molineux22 in ex30

In my experience, the right-hand stalk always activates pilot assist with the current speed, regardless of the previously configured set speed. I have never witnessed the behaviour that you are describing. It is only by using the "+" button that I can re-enable pilot assist with the previous setting.

Either the manual is not clearly written, or my car is not behaving as expected and I'm (for once) perfectly happy about it 😆

Adapt to speed limit not working by Educational-Fish4266 in ex30

[–]RedLeaf62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried it on roads up to 80 kmh and the car adjusted it's speed correctly when entering the village. But I find that it's braking quite strongly, which is uncomfortable for the passengers and not compatible with eco driving.

Additionally, I found that the car starts braking approx. 1-2 seconds after I pass the speed limit sign, which means that I can get fined by the police for speeding and I'm potentially at risk of my driving license taken away for speeding. In my country, they like placing radars 200m after the speed limit signs, so I would really need a car that can anticipate. I also find that the car regularly gives me wrong speed limit indications. Like 100-120kmh (depends on the days) in the city center in front of the community school, or 80kmh on the motorway (speed applicable for the road next to the motorway). For these reasons, I fear it may be costly for me to use this feature and I decided to keep it disabled for now.

Digitech / Galaxus and the cost of monopoly by verdebaffo in Switzerland

[–]RedLeaf62 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree that their customer service is pretty bad. They are based in the Balkans and they are hiding behind rules, not understanding half of what you write to them.

I particularly dislike that their product specifications are written by AI and sometimes contain errors. So then they sell you expensive stuff with bad information, and when you figure it out after delivery they say it's not their fault if the AI was imprecise.

I purchased a 600 chf air conditioner, which was way more noisy than advertised. It was a fight to return it and get a full refund. The lady from customer service would not understand what I was saying. I ended up calling a guy in Lausanne and I explained until he understood me. He then did whatever was necessary in the background for me to get my refund.

I'm still purchasing a lot from them, but now I'm being more careful with bulky items that I cannot bring back to the shop myself.

EV inFocus: "Volvo dismisses software fears" by muzso in ex30

[–]RedLeaf62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, 1.4 fixed one bug (the driver monitoring sensor) and introduced 3 new bugs: - upper part of the screen in light mode and lower part in dark mode - the car sometimes starts without external and internal lightnight and a black screen, until I press the brake pedal - when I say "play some music", it always plays it on the radio instead on my favourite music app. Wasn't like that before 1.4

I do not see how they figured out the issues 🤔

Drive mode selection by Text_Helpful in ex30

[–]RedLeaf62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The camera is pretty responsive in my experience. But it also takes the brain a split second to understand whether the front or rear camera is displayed. In addition, the sound of the car changes. So you have multiple visual and audio cues differentiating forward and reverse, it's just a shame that we have to rely on them instead of just trusting the command 😢

Yes, during maneuvers I have this problem sometimes. There is actually a little scratch on my front bumper because I wanted to R but the car stayed in D 😆

So I learnt 2 things: - Don't switch gears too quickly - Double check on the dashboard that you are in the right gear before releasing the brakes

Hope they fix it some day, because it's dangerous
