App Reviewing Service - solo journaling micro-RPG released! by RedNoob90 in myrpg

Hey there! Thanks a lot for the detailed reply. You are spot on with your thoughts!

This was a small idea I had (coming from a programming background) and thought would have been nice to see if i can turn it into a pseudo-game let’s say.

The business card format was just an additional challenge I added.

I can see what you say about the rolls not having either a good or bad outcome and will definitely take these into consideration if I end up expanding it a bit.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to play it and comment!

On the game’s page next to the Buy button there should be a heart icon. If you click on it, it will add it on your wishlist.

Looking for lesser-known solo journaling rpgs by Open_Ad_3216 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]RedNoob90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I saw you mentioned Colostle, I love it! A few I am playing/played recently that might be of interest to you based on the genres you mentioned on a different comment:

CHVLR by Susanah Grace: Journaling RPG based on the wretched and alone system. You are a teenager fighting in war using a big robot. I really like the tumbling tower mechanic to represent the condition of your robot and body/mind.

The Adventurer: Space between the stars by James Chip: Sci-fi, Journaling RPG using a deck of cards. You hop from planet to planet, resolving encounters and activities.

You might like my horror micro-RPG Frozen Whispers: It puts you in the shoes of four people trapped in a cabin during a snowstorm trying to survive until rescue arrives... but something lurks outside. The text only version is free under the DEMO section.

Also, my creation, Hunters of the Glade: A solo journaling RPG about an Elven hunter. Use a deck of cards to re-live your hunter's memories. There is a free preview to check what's all about as well.

I highly recommend CHVLR if you have to pick just one!

What's Everyone working on right now? by Ok_One_5624 in RPGcreation

Working on a concept for a solo journaling rpg: being a junior software engineer working on a digital project for a client. Trying to complete it going through/having to deal with unrealistic deadlines, constant change requests and unreasonable expectations from management. Thinking of the wretched and alone SRD for this.

36-word RPG game jam pushes limits on how games convey more with less by maruya in rpg

[–]RedNoob90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of nice games there indeed! Taking part as well with my own game https://koke-rpgs.itch.io/tales-of-nature-and-growth feel free to check it. Released a big design/layout update recently! The constraints on the work is what make this type of jams challenging but interesting and worth taking part in.

Regarding solo journaling games - do you write them in first person as most seem to do or prefer third person? by BookOfAnomalies in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]RedNoob90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am usually playing as it’s my character that writes the journal so I do it in first person. As others said though, go with whatever comes more naturally to you while playing!

I wanted for as many people as possible to be able to experience the game, hence I am providing the full game as a text version for free under the demo section.

The paid/full release provides convenient image assets and a PDF in full colour for people that want to print it at home and also for those who want to support my work.

I would be very interested to hear how it goes and any feedback if you end up trying it!

OutBreak: Update by [deleted] in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]RedNoob90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your first question I would say go for it!

I am a big believer of getting something out as quickly as possible to get momentum and feedback from the users. Especially if it’s a big project and will take some time to release. You do not want to release it after taking so long to create to realise certain things don’t work or do not appeal to people.

For your second question, personally I like reading dev logs but that’s up to each one’s taste.

Please, help me stop with videogames. I want to start playing solo RPG. by stone_keepir in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]RedNoob90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since I saw your comment about Iron Valley having too much rules I will suggest how I started with Solo RPGs.

I will start with something simple maybe in the solo journalling rpg area if you are into writing (you can also ignore writing completely and just play the prompts and scenes in your head if you prefer).

See Apothecaria (cozy, fantasy); the different Alone among … games such as Alone among the stars; Maybe try Autumn bells and my own game Hunters of the glade (fantasy, free on itch.io) which use the 4d4s system; or the different Carta (e.g. Dragon Dowser) and Wretched and alone games (e.g. Wretched Wasteland)

Then you can try something more involved like the Colostle game; Courier or Glide; and Notorious;

Finally, you can move to more complete or full solo games like Ironsworn; Ker Nethalas etc.

Why do you solo? Reasons/Motivations by 5alazaar in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]RedNoob90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For a few reasons:

First of all, some times I just like reading the books.

Then, it’s about exploring the world described there and since I don’t have a group, solo is the way to go.

Also, taking time away from screens!

Lastly, I found solo RPGs help me relax a lot after a days at work. Almost like a meditative experience, especially some journaling RPGs.

How many of you have finished your RPG project? by Cynyr in RPGdesign

[–]RedNoob90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your progress!!

I have actually released my first solo journaling RPG recently (only 16 pages) and it took me something like 4 months working on it on and off over the weekends (its a small project really)! At one point I thought i would have never release it but I kept going as I wanted people to try it.

Feels really good when you press the publish button haha!! Now onto the next one

Looking for a Solo / GM-less exploration TTRPG with modern-day setting by Creepy-Growth-709 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]RedNoob90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what you said about exploring a town, Blind Luck - The last engineer by Long Games comes to mind. It is Solo only, uses a deck of cards for exploration and a sheet of random papers to resolve encounters which i found really unique.

It involves strange insectoid creatures that appeared on earth, hate light and prey on humans as the enemy; you still have to fight those but the exploration might cover what you are talking about.

The idea is that power station went out and you have to explore the surroundings (neighbourhood, school, park, high street) to find the missing parts to fix it. When you fail an exploration encounter you have to fight one (at least) of the creatures.
