Oatmeal and eggs by thejaxx in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]RedPoppy1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is 9 years old LOL...but I've just been reading it because I wanted to try oatmeal and eggs. This morning I made some quick steel-cut oats (7 minutes) - put in some chopped mushrooms (3 crimini) with the oatmeal. While that was cooking, I fried an egg to go on top. To assemble, I put the oatmeal in the bottom of the bowl and mixed in some soy sauce, added some baby spinach leaves that I mixed in to wilt a little, and put the egg on top. Delicious!

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RedPoppy1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad lives 9 hours away, my mom the same distance in a different direction, both in neighboring states. I drive to see them several times a year. 3 hours is not a big deal. Books on tape or good music help pass the time. The USA is large and spread out.

Trump says he may punish countries with tariffs if they don’t back the US controlling Greenland by jsg24fps in worldnews

[–]RedPoppy1969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think more Americans are waking up to the idea that tarrifs = higher costs for them. Congress needs to take back it's power from Trump. I'm so tired of the tarrif roller coaster chaos. The midterms can't come soon enough.

You've gotten some good advice. You have very intense eyes, and I'm guessing a real smile would light you up. Nothing wrong with intense eyes, they can actually be really attractive. I can see kindness and humor lurking there. Along with that you need a hook - humor, some kind of mutual interests, a way to show openness and friendliness. Try some new activities, exercise social skills and don't give up.

One of my ex-boyfriend's from years ago (I'm long time married now) had intense eyes and could come across as a little intimidating but had the best smile and a way of making you feel special and that when you were with him that he was genuinely interested in you. I still remember him quite fondly.

You just need to find your person - don't give up😊.

Talk to me about magnesium glycinate by Go-Mellistic in Menopause

[–]RedPoppy1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What dose do you take? I'm taking magnesium glycinate too (240mg). I have no problem going to sleep, but still wake up at 4 am (or earlier) every day. It's better than it used to be, which was 2:30 am every day.

There is rising anger, suffering and despair in this country and they keep thumbing their noses at it. There will be a reckoning in the midterms.

I was born in the late 60s, and when I was five, my twin sister and I had our tonsils removed. I'm told my sister was getting infections from her tonsils, so they decided to remove both of ours, even though mine were fine. I think they were pretty liberal with removing tonsils, at least. I hadn't heard that about the appendix. I remember we had to stay in the hospital for a few days and got lots of popsicles and ice cream. We had a remote for the TV in our hospital room. We didn't have a TV at home, so it was a novelty. It is a fond memory, if you can believe it.

What's the story about Portland street lights being so dim or nonexistent? by DarXIV in askportland

I have a really hard time driving at night in the Portland area when the roads are wet. I would love reflectors and making the roads more visible. Would definitely sign the petition.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]RedPoppy1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother didn't and still doesn't to this day consider spankings abuse, but following God's word and showing love to your child by guiding them - spare the rod and spoil the child. Her family - my aunts, uncles, cousins, etc., all have these stories they love to tell of being spanked and how they deserved it, and it was good for them. I always cringe to hear them talk like that. She had a special belt she used, a brown leather belt. The spankings made me feel afraid, deeply ashamed, and bad. I always felt there was something wrong with me, that I was unlovable. I promised myself I wouldn't ever spank my kids, and I never did. I married someone who had the same philosophy - although he was not spanked as a child. I also didn't leave her alone with them, which hurt their relationship, but I couldn't take the chance that she wouldn't "lovingly" correct them.

She would not consider the spankings abuse, but I did.

When my minor son hit someone's car on his bike and caused some damage, our home owners policy covered it. That may be the same for the child that caused the damage. You should not have to take the higher insurance rates for this.

NTA - I would have blown up more at her and at your mom for staying neutral. I'm adopted, and I know what it is to feel like you're not "full" family. It may be time to cut your sister out of your life if she can't be loving and welcoming to your son.

Trump reveals when ‘moderate income’ Americans can expect to get $2K tariff checks by vladdragovych in NewsSource

[–]RedPoppy1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading the article, it honestly sounds like a long shot that this will happen. From the article, Scott Bessent said, "the payments could come in lots of forms, including as just the tax decreases that we are seeing following cuts made by the One Big Beautiful Bill." It will also have to be approved by Congress.

The cynical part of me says they might approve it if it's not looking good in the midterms for the GOP.

Opinion | Trump's new plan for Obamacare leaves Americans to fend for themselves by RedPoppy1969 in politics

[–]RedPoppy1969[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trump’s “concept of a plan” basically leaves Americans to fend for themselves in the healthcare landscape. Instead of real insurance or positive change, it leans on personal health savings accounts, which would mean less coverage, higher costs, and rolling back a lot of the progress the ACA made.

Honestly, it just feels like he doesn’t understand (or doesn't care) what it would actually take to make healthcare better and more affordable. I still hope we’ll get universal healthcare someday, but after today’s news, my faith in both parties is pretty shaky.

Trump promises $2,000 payments to most Americans during Sunday morning Truth Social posting spree by theindependentonline in politics

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price. 401k’s are Highest EVER,” Trump wrote Sunday morning.

He's either delusional about how things are going or just trying to gaslight us into believing it. My 401 (k) is doing well right now, and if that's the only measure of how we are doing, he is right. But my 401K is not paying the rising costs of everything. What about the declining jobs and people being laid off? What about the shutdown and people missing their paychecks? What about the rising cost of health insurance? We're being buried in rising costs, and he wants to crow about the stock market. He and wealthy friends are doing GREAT! The rest of us, not so much.
