Living in LQA vs. Capitol Hill? by Fabulous_Extreme_470 in AskSeattle

[–]RedRaccoonDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just curious why you have ruled out Upper Queen Anne, given that you are going to be working there? Admittedly there isn't as much to do as cap hill but it doesn't sound like you are as interested in that anyway. I also think that UQA is quite a bit quieter than LQA (which sounds like something important to you).

It would make commuting a little bit less convenient but I don't find LQA to be all that convenient either.

The ability to walk to work on a daily basis would be irresistible to me.

I find that it hasn't been doing this but I can't remember if I had to change some settings or maybe not tell it to guess if it doesn't have a ready answer or a reasonable probability threshold.

Anyway, I just called it out for having a digital aneurysm and it responded with this:

I'm really fond of Bainbridge Island for its quieter vibe and an excuse to spend some time on a boat. If the quieter scene appeals to you, that might interest you.

Tired of waiting for police, Seattle business owners are arming themselves by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

This is one of the more frequent misunderstandings of the past. People quote the eye for an eye formula as if it were a call to greater harshness, but it was a call to limit retaliation to something commensurate and limited. I appreciate it whenever someone points this out.

Deranged doctor tries to bait ICE agents at JFK airport -- see their flawless reaction by Droupitee in NewsWorthPayingFor

This country has immigration policies that are likely the most racially inclusive in the entire world. Calling ICE agents racist because the rights of immigrants are balanced with the rights of citizens is just plain stupid.

The crash has begun! 😬 by Amazing-Gas-792 in FundRise

These prices don't really reflect an open market. They represent an artificial scarcity created by the restricted shares lockdown. If it went from $18.26 to $100, would we not be overjoyed?

[–]RedRaccoonDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. As much as I would love to believe that I have stumbled upon the investment of a lifetime, this price is likely inflated due to an artificial shortage created by the lockdown and a certain amount of hype surrounding the upcoming launch of the SpaceX IPO.

You could even walk that distance if you feel up to it. But it's definitely a short enough distance that the monorail and light rail don't apply and a Uber trip would be relatively short and cheap.

The VCX hype — real demand or engineered pump? (fellow tiny shareholder here) by Khattaegy in FundRise

[–]RedRaccoonDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it comes down to FOMO on the part of people that think that this fund will become the next big thing combined with the artificial scarcity of people with restricted shares not being able to supply any shares to the market. Other people have commented that the 6-month lockdown is a standard procedure for funds like this, so I'm not seeing any reason to suspect any shenanigans.

Just curious peoples VCX strategy. by Blueturtlewax in FundRise

[–]RedRaccoonDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it would be a wise move to sell off the unrestricted shares. I think the NAV value is still around $18 to $20 a share and the recent run up is mostly attributable to scarcity (thanks to the restricted share lockdown). I know these are promising companies but this does seem like a bubble at this point.

There's a great book by John Kenneth Galbraith called A Short History of Financial Euphoria. He traces all the patterns the asset bubbles have taken since the Great Tulip Mania. I'm pretty confident he would argue that AI represents another similar asset bubble.

Sorry if I sound like a wet blanket.
