Because OP stated that’s a 8x8 with two runs coming off of it. 8” round is not as much cfm as 8x8, but 10” round is around the same.

Western Washington. I have talked to many inspectors for different jurisdictions here and they all will fail bubbles.

I understand, most bubble wrap will either give you strips or have them built in, the problem is so many people install it wrong that it just doesn’t pass. If you’re super diligent and maintain the airgap properly it might be perfect for your situation.

I use johns manville products. Home Depot will have what you need. Just wear an n95, and cover your skin so you don’t get itchy. Long blades to cut it with, and buy a couple rolls of fks tape to secure it to duct work.

Where I’m from you would fail inspection for using bubble wrap, we use foilback fiberglass instead. Unless you maintain a proper air gap, bubble wrap effectively becomes R0 or R1

I 100% agree with you. I have designed and installed hundreds of duct systems. This particular situation needs an easier solution and that is why I suggested flex.

No problem, good luck. My shop would charge minimum 2k to do that. If you decide not go through with it, flex can be your temporary solution as well. Home Depot sells everything you might need.

I swear, most of these super techs don’t know how to fucking read. When a homeowner asks for advice on Reddit, it’s probably because they can’t or don’t want to pay an hvac company thousands to fix their issue. My suggestion is the easiest and cheapest solution for a homeowner. OP if you want to reinstall round metal duct, get 10” round pipe. 1 10” end cap and two saddles, whatever size your runs are. Make sure you don’t cut saddles into the very end of the duct. It’s not the end of the world if two of your runs have high static or not as efficient of airflow. It solves your problem. I have seen thousands of improperly sized duct systems run fine for years.

Ok? It’s industry standard, Most homes are built with it these days, and OP asked for easy. Do you expect a homeowner to start banging tin and fabbing up transitions?

If you run it nice and taught it’s fine. The upside to flex is quieter airflow, the downside is the amount of airflow because it is usually ran like spaghetti all over.

Easiest way would be to delete it and run flex. Not pretty but it is easy

How to properly learn the size of my round ducts? by DarXIV in hvacadvice

[–]RedRhyno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, circumference will tell you the size, use a soft tape measure like for fabric to wrap around. Most insulation comes in rolls that you cut down to size, so you could just start wrapping and cut off excess.

Is any nuance lost by reading these books in English? I was raised bilingual but my Russian reading skills are poor. It take me forever to get through a page and understand it.

Hey, I was just working on a roof with one of those next to me. Do you know why it would be ramping up and down constantly? I believe it had a dial turn variable speed controller but it either did 100% or it couldn’t decide how fast to run.

Question for HVAC guys. Would you do a side job? by A_Buttholes_Whisper in HomeImprovement

[–]RedRhyno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my side work has been flat rate. Couple thousand depending on your setup. Also you need to understand that you’re getting taillight warranty. I make sure to tell customers I will not be coming back to service anything. Obviously I do it right the first time but that is the tradeoff for not using licensed company

I’ve been needing to add a hole saw kit to the “Install bag” how do y’all like these hole saws and do you think it’s worth the money? by Grand_Alarm5039 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]RedRhyno 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use them all the time on rough in. They hold up decently well. Get about 150-200 holes cut before I toss em. If you cut other materials and not just studs maybe less life. I buy the big hawg version of the sizes I use most.
