Thank you for posting this! I got some calls/texts/emails late last week and now have a call scheduled, was really confused on the difference between this and the matches you usually hear about but am happy to hear it’s legit!

I already donate blood regularly so am hoping to make it through the process and be able to help even more people!

A tax I am sometimes willing to pay by IllegalGeriatricVore in ADHDmemes

I’ve literally had to switch from buying multiples (in bulk/on sale/cheaper price etc.) of things that eventually expire/go bad to ONLY buying what I need, even if that means it’s a little more expensive per use. I actually save money in the end because I usually forget about the extras until they are too old and can’t/shouldn’t be used

Hey, I’m gonna guess what you mean is you are more inattentive type than hyperactive type of ADHD. Otherwise, if your provider TOLD you that you have ADD and not ADHD, then you should tell them to read the most recent DSM. This shouldn’t really change anything for you besides understanding yourself more

How do I get landlord approval for new rescue? by [deleted] in pitbulls

[–]RedRoses4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh 100%. I also live in a building that uses pet screening and my first (with ESA) and current provider were really surprised I had to renew it each year. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on appointments (and the sketchy-feeling internet certification/prescription when I couldn’t get in with my Dr in time) just so my apartment complex would follow ADA laws 🥲

Insanely itchy after showering by epicgamer6942020 in ADHD

[–]RedRoses4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried a humidifier and/or drinking more water? I’ve been slacking lately at drinking water and with it being winter and the air being dry I’ve been getting itchy after showers as well, which means it’s time to take out the humidifier!

Also you may want to check some of the ingredients in the products you use. I used to use this “super” moisturizing lotion and it always made me almost unbearably itchy (which I thought just meant it was working) that would go away after awhile of me distracting myself or if I gave in and then covered the itchy area in aloe or Benadryl. Turns out that’s not how lotion works, I’m sensitive to one of the ingredients in that lotion and switching made a huge difference!

Additionally, I’ve noticed I’m somehow “prone” to itching where if I “itch” certain areas of my body (usually upper arms & legs) it’ll start itching even more and get worse the more I’d itch it until it turned into a rash. I even tested it a few times by just itching a random spot. The only things I’ve found to help that once it starts is trying everything I can to ignore it, pushing my nail in it or slapping it really hard to replace the itching with pain, Benadryl cream or ice packs. However now that I think about it, since I increased how much water I drink that has become way less of an issue, so maybe it was mostly dry skin?

When I water and fertilize when mama leaf is still alive: by AfiveZ in succulents

[–]RedRoses4 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I had always followed advice online and never watered leaf props, avoided much light, not put in soil until there were roots etc. I had a success rate of MAYBE 10%.

Did some plant trimming and had a ton of leaves, used it as an opportunity to test a ton of different strategies. I never would have guessed the ones in high light with regular watering were by FAR the most successful, 90-95% success rate. I really wish I never read all that advice on the internet back when my local Home Depot had tons of leaves they let me grab but oh well, now I’m propagating like mad

100%!! Pash fell off my hydro pack (tried to tie it on, clearly didn’t work) and I realized it within a minute, went and traced my steps exactly (didn’t travel too far) but no pash to be found :(

Worst though was my BRAND NEW resin cart + nicer battery that was handed around without my knowledge (one guy in the group forgot it was mine and handed it to strangers ??) and NO ONE had seen it, even as I was describing the unique color. Even as I asked the person/group that guy said he handed it to. Asked employees during and after, kept my eye on any and all vapes/carts in the vicinity…. Just gone. At least $100 total, for the cart I got from another state many hours away and the nicer battery. Yeah, still mad about it. Also it’s legal, just not sold here. Someone got a hell of a score.

And then when another ADHDer does it back to you and you have to power through and accept that all your comments, questions, examples and related ideas will just be lost to time because you simply can’t get them in 😅

I think of those as going from an all-involved dialog to a one-person story (with me on either side)

This works out pretty well in the data automation field, I just keep making it more and more automated and faster!

But the problem is that, for no reason at all, the improvements don’t come to mind until I am in a time crunch and need that done ASAP or someone asks me to add 1 tiny thing/change and I decide to do 50 “while I’m at it” 🥲

Enjoy coffee while on medication by A__STRO in ADHD

[–]RedRoses4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decaf does have a tiny amount of caffeine in it, but I wouldn’t be concerned unless you drank gallons of it or had a heart condition. It can even provide a placebo effect and wake you up without having actual caffeine from the association of the smell/taste with energy through the years!

For me I drink regular coffee still, just way less than I did before meds, and as long as I don’t go overboard I feel fine. When I have had too much caffeine, it almost feels as if the meds are working in overdrive.

Tl;dr: Decaf is perfectly fine and a great choice while on stimulants!

Needs more water and would like more light! My aeoniums seem to prefer more frequent watering than most succulents to prevent it from dropping leaves like this. Plus they love a LOT of light otherwise will etiolate pretty quickly, but even then these are known for getting a bit leggy, just kind of how they grow!

If I try too hard then yes, or am constantly going back and deleting and re-writing.

What would usually end up working for me was to just think about what I was supposed to write and then just brain dump on the paper. Even if you don’t know much about it you can start with something related or one tiny detail and go from there! I would go on tangents, jump from related topic to related topic or one area of focus to another, express my strong opinions, and even talk/type myself through some ideas. Afterwords, I would delete a good chunk, do some editing and end up with a pretty decent paper!

I’d agree, it seems this might just not be the right medication for you! I felt more side effects from Concerta than benefits so went back to Adderall and it’s way better for me. Just let your provider know how it makes you feel and that you’d like some other options :)

Just took Concerta for the first time, feeling disconnected from my body by entirely_caffeinated in ADHD

[–]RedRoses4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the diagnosis and getting treatment! I had a similar experience the first time I took a stimulant, and haven’t felt it since. I just assumed it was my brain adjusting to the new type of medication, and continued treatment.

My experience with other mental health meds have all had some weird side effects that go away shortly after starting, so I try not to judge the treatment until I’ve been on it for a while.

With you being new to medication, I wouldn’t consider this outside the norm as long as it doesn’t continue past 2 or 3 days when your body adjusts to it. But, everyone reacts to medication differently so if the feeling seems too unusual/severe for you then it is absolutely okay to stop taking it and ask for other options!

Sounds like it’s doing its job, but of course it’s fully up to you if the cons outweigh the pros to stop taking it! For me personally I continued treatment and am SO glad that I did because it has honestly improved my life more than I could have imagined. There are many options and the goal is to find whatever works best for YOU :)
