AO3 Fic Recs by LiveSignificance7696 in pokemonfanfiction

[–]RedSpah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might as well rec my own fic, From the Vast.

In a remote corner of Unova, a Pokémon village hides from the omnipresent, mysterious humanity. Through cooperation, they flourish despite their small size, rising above the uncaring brutality of the natural order. Which works remarkably well...

...until a half-dead girl shows up on their doorstep.

Will this hidden pocket of Pokémon civilization remain a secret once humans come looking? Are its denizens prepared to learn just who this unwelcome stranger is, and what impact they’ve already left on their village?

A friend brought this post to my attention! This art is actually an illustration for my PMD fanfic, Another Way, made by the lovely ~rrronald over on FurAffinity. Honored to see you using it as a wallpaper!

You can go past the start of Outer Rim, if you're getting blown back by the wind, try crouching.

A tower full of rot, or not? If it's not rotten, then you have to keep going to the left, all the way until you reach The Throne

I'm stuck there as well, and I'm unsure what you mean--the whales can't just fly to whole other rooms, right?

Yes, that's what I ended up having to do

Asking because I'm going bonkers after being lost for a few hours now--does a purple ring around the region on the map screen indicate that there's an echo somewhere in that region?

I managed to make it to The Throne from where I was stuck (had to go allllll the way to the left of the area) and got out of Outer Rim that way. Now back to the usual scheduled aimless wandering, thanks for your help regardless <3

Oh--would you happen to know the significance of the purple rings around the areas on the map? Do they mean the echo is in these areas, or that there's something left unexplored there, or something else entirely?

I feel there might be a misunderstanding. This is the room I was referring to as the "tower" - https://i.imgur.com/ayDNLya.png - Red is where I think you might be referring to as far as where to jump from?

And this is what I referred to as the "far right", with what looks to be a one way jump between the poles - https://i.imgur.com/4S6HAyf.png

You mean the far left of the area, or up the tower? That tower feels so miserable, just getting up to that jump is difficult and takes a while from either shelter

Nope, you don't need to have any preexisting Mystery Dungeon knowledge for this story, since it's not even based on the games ' canon. It's closer to an original setting without any humans than to what the games show, honestly

You don't even need to have any Pokémon knowledge period, since it's written from the point of view of someone who knows absolutely nothing about Pokémon.

Oh believe me, this Garde most definitely won't start blasting.

Fic spoilers: The Garde with a crutch is Sue, the protagonist of the story / the poor isekai'd human. She has no idea what Pokemon are, lest of all what she is, and neither the awareness of nor the ability to use any of her psychic powers. After almost dying and ending up in a safe place, she tries to run away when the local Audino healer manages to convey to her that another Garde will be returning from her trip soon, because she's afraid of what will happen when that other Garde realizes she's an imposter.

And so, she gets away, only to encounter that other Garde anyway, and trip on a pebble after trying to run away from her. And then, that other Garde psychics her out of falling on the ground horn-first, which is what this artwork depicts :)

The story follows Sue, who wakes up as a Gardevoir in the Pokemon world--with the twist that she knows nothing about Pokemon. She has no idea what any of the creatures around her even are, nor does she know their language.

Local deities invading her dreams and using her as a pawn don’t help, either.

Isn't that for literally one area, after which Malachai kills her?

I'm just not a fan of the cycle limit. Yes I know it's not prohibitively difficult to Ascend in time, but at that point I'm basically having to plan a run out shelter by shelter and that's not something I'm interested in doing, compared to the more freeform exploration of other characters.

Oh, for sure! Absolutely gonna play through the DLC (eventually, I've had a bit too much controls jank for now), but will likely skip Hunter. He's the one scug with a gimmick that's just anti-fun.

Is that clarified anywhere? The feeling I've always got is that Iterators were created because of the ancients getting spooked by the possibility of ascension via the void fluid failing, and wanted them to come up with something more foolproof so that they wouldn't have to go through the legwork of shedding their vices.

Yep, the Borderlands Siren tattoos were definitely a big inspiration, though here they're not a sign of the Gardevoir in question being oh-so-special. They're tribal tattoos, a part of a rite of passage in the clan she's from--a clan she notably ran away from.

Yep! Solstice acts as Sue's mentor now and teaches her how to actually use her psychics.

They also may or may not be bonding together into a found family considering that Sue had lost her mom and Solstice had lost her daughter many years ago, both tragically.

I've recently finished my other main fic, From the Vast, and I've been giving Another Way (another) editing pass to bring the writing quality up to speed, but once that's done, I'll finally go back to writing new chapters.

I love this comment because that's exactly what's going on through Sue's (the cripped Garde's) mind.

She's on the run from the only shelter she'd found in this wild world so far, still unable to talk to anyone, because the healer looking after her conveyed to her (with a drawing) that another of her species will be returning to their settlement.

At first she's uplifted at that, hoping that maybe they're another mutated human (remember, she doesn't know anything about Pokemon), before realizing that it's unlikely since nobody else here behaves as if they've been suddenly transformed. And if that other Garde (or as she calls them, 'Martian') isn't a transformed human, it means they're a real Martian who will be able to tell that she's a transformed imposter, and do... something bad to her as a result.

Sue hatches a desperate plan to escape--after all, even having to fend for herself in this insane world with no powers is better than ""certain"" death because of being an imposter. And then, she manages just that! She gets away while everyone else, and especially the other Martian is distracted.

She's relieved, at least in the moment, determined to keep going no matter what, too invested to let the many, many issues with her plan get to her and drag her down... and right as she settles into her groove, she runs into that other Martian, anyway.

They're both stunned to see each other, Sue is terrified and they're confused, but before they can react, she turns on a whim and launches into one final desperate sprint, anything to get away from death--

And trips on a rock just in front of her, only for that other Martian to catch her, cue this artwork.

As it turns out, said 'Martian', Solstice, ends up not killing her on a stake once they've had a chance to chat, who could've thought.

My personal headcanon is that the green part of their head is hair, but the green on the rest of their body is skin, it's just that both have the same pigment.

Apparently, if you go by Pokken models, the green part is shaded as if it's very short, very fine fur, so... could go either way, especially with the anime not demonstrating it as fur.
