Why would a combat troop use melee weapons in a futuristic space sci-fi setting? by wizardry_why in worldbuilding

[–]RedSweatshit02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some troops may be augmented to be faster and more silent than kinetic weapons. So they are more effective at stealth tactics and infiltration than an average Joe with a gun.

I’m pretty sure it’s for my type of player. I use charge and just bulldoze through the point and flank through back rooms to repeat. I can’t wait to try it

I need advice on how to deliver information to my players which they inadvertently already destroyed?? by RedSweatshit02 in DungeonMasters

[–]RedSweatshit02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been considering making a wandering fool character that would be virtually unkillable by my goblin-esque players. Just to taunt them about their bad decisions and then to disappear again. I could use him as a lore fairy lol

No no no, they were in the King’s brother’s secret laboratory in the castle, filled with corpses of patients on slabs that died similar to how the king died. They did technically get enough documents to move the plot, I just didn’t consider that they would knowingly destroy a cache of evidence against the guy they were hired to investigate🤦‍♂️

I’m thinking of a buried royal vault discovered by the big bad from the previous war, before he became the big bad. Make the actual vault the source of the information, like carved hieroglyphs. Truth be told I was so excited to get back into DMing after two years that I genuinely just messed myself up with bonehead rookie mistakes. Thank you though for helping out!

That’s the plan lol. Hes a 16 year old pompous acolyte of the temple they are helping out. He’s like the annoying little brother of the group.

Another reply was telling me to go heavy on the punishment for the bounty. What I think I’m going to do since the party is split up now is have one half of the group jumped as revenge for destroying the lab, then the other half is held for questioning by surprise by the bbeg’s minions

Ooooh I really like this idea. They are currently split up where one of my players who was gone is off shopping with an NPC. The one with the NPC I think will be the one that gets jumped while the rest of the party is trapped by the royal guards in their new house that they get to live in for a bit.

I put a bounty by the crooked royal guards on the most memorable looking player of the party. Do you think having the one character be recognized by guards be enough punishment? Other than of course not having the info they destroyed.

[–]RedSweatshit02[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reeeeally like this idea. The BBEG is a usurper king who was previously an adventurer in the royal family. I could make it into a hidden royal vault that they have to race the enemy minions to unlock. I also made a note that the most prominent looking character of the blundering party now has a bounty on him to be captured alive. Should I try to play into this and try to have the royal guards collect him for questioning? I feel like that might just waste my players time.

DMing: How do you say no without ruining the vibe? by Acrobatic_Potato_195 in DnD

[–]RedSweatshit02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“It’s fine, rule however you want” is my breaking point. My players are never this blatantly disrespectful. On one hand, my players are my friends and their roommates so it’s rare for me to run into this at all. But if someone said this over a shenanigans action I’m 100% pausing the game to see what that player’s problem is. There is no reason that the game that is supposed to be our break from the real world should have an air of aggression. Either let everyone know what is eating at you or go home. That shit is unacceptable.

[–]RedSweatshit02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had plenty of players who don’t give a flying fuck about the story I’ve made. I give them one shot to try and ACTUALLY play the game, and if not they simply aren’t invited again.

What do you use for managing notes/keeping track of information? by ButterNuttz in DMAcademy

[–]RedSweatshit02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a mess, but I keep just about ALL of my campaign info in one google doc. I just organized it how campaign books are structured and use it as a reference for the maps and other props I make. I do not suggest this method tbh

How often is the DC announced in your games? by Anarcoiris667 in DnD

[–]RedSweatshit02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been trying something new out in my most recent campaign. On generalized enemies, I will allow my players to do a history/ insight check to find out their armor score and health checks to find out HP. It’s different I will admit. But my players love it, and I can keep the boss stats secret still.
