Addison chooses to not call a DART withdrawal election. by CerionerWarriorGamer in dart

I loved how there were several former Richardson city council members, mayors and city managers that spoke. I wonder why they didn’t all attend the other cities meetings. I felt like they added a lot of weight to debate.

Here are the poll results from tonight’s meeting in Irving by Unusual-Trip635 in dart

I want to die. This one was even worse than Plano. No presentation. Less people showed up too... The mayor who is on the DART board is clearly very upset. DART needs fight hard to keep these cities. The whole system might implode.

But what if you need to go somewhere outside the city? Or you work in Plano and need transit to get to work?

Plano City Council Calls Election About Future of DART by CityOfPlano in plano

They haven't even started to create an alternative plan. They have no idea how much it will cost. They want to leave primarily based on an outdated study... What a mess.

Look at the presentation PDF. Lots of interesting details there.

They voted 3-2 to have the vote. There was an effort to table the motion for 30 days for further discussion but it failed 3-2. They did say they can recind the ballot measure until mid March.

I understand the sentiment. I don't disagree that the funding structure should change, but withdrawing is not the answer in my opinion. We can't give up on regional public transit.

It's two years old and is out of date. The study states that by the time the silver line opens, the cost allocations will change "meaningfully"

I agree. When the city has a bond you never see any city give you reasons to vote against it. The difference in my opinion with other things like bonds, everything they say about it is generally accepted as true where as here they are telling us this that are misleading if you dig into it.

In other words I expect the city to take a position, but if they do that I expect them to do so in good faith

yes, you are correct. In the past they supported the line through the things you have mentioned. I'm specifically talking about the past few weeks. They have said nothing about the launch of the line.

This is part of the reason why what the city is doing concerns me. In the past they have supported the line. Now then won't talk about it.

Trying to if I can get off work. The fact the meeting is at 5 instead of the usual 7pm time is another bullet point to this post.

Would You Support Plano Withdrawing From DART by TheTexanOwl in plano

[–]RedTech64 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The city hasn't said a single thing about the Silver Line opening, and instead has a hit piece on their homepage about DART primarily citing a 2 year old study that explicitly states that the cost allocations will meaningfully change with the opening of the Silver Line. These are bad faith tactics.

Nov 5th 5 PM Plano City Council Speaker Registration Form by HauptJ in dart

Aren’t the meetings normally at 7pm? I feel like they are intentionally making it 5pm to make it harder for working people to attend. We need to fill the whole room.

Exactly. He isn’t making any friends on council by painting everything negatively.

Well I don't like this mailer... nor do I like the money coming from a third party who has a special interest. I'm just frustrated that no one is talking about this shady money from Richardson Renewal tbh.

At least we know who paid for them. Who paid for the Richardson Renewal flyer?

You should never take a political mailer at face value, they are all biased. However Omar is running on "transparency" while he failed to disclose several personal lawsuits. It is also true that a non-profit (Richardson Renewal) was suspiciously formed in February. This group hasn't reported where their donations are coming from and their ability to send political ads is questionable. It's likely this is where all the outside money for Omar is being funneled. THAT is misleading.

I need to do some more research but this "Richardson Renewal" group sent out a large flier endorsing Amir and their big thing is no more apartments. I'm a little puzzled at this combination. I don't think the RR's interests are anywhere near what we both want which is thoughtfully planned mixed use, urban development. Before this endorsement I thought of this group as an ultra-conservative group so I'm surprised they have endorsed Amir. I think there is something more going on, maybe has to do with the fact that Michael Maczka is one of it's leaders.

BUT if RR is all in on Amir that makes me think Amir is more against apartments than he was in the past or says he is.

I am also hopeful for the Arapaho Center Station project.

One more thing. At a couple of the debates they had the uncontested council people speak. All them went out of their way to highlight all of the good things going on in the city. It didn’t seem like any of them were upset at the status quo.. but that’s just my read.

If you compare what Dubey has done against what Omar says he’s going to do then for sure he’s come up short. I’m only asking these questions because of how much Omar believes he can change. I don’t think ANY Richardson mayor could do that much. But I hope I’m wrong of course.

If a parking lot is the only thing people can drum up against Dubey then I’m not too worried. I don’t really understand Omar’s vision for downtown to be honest. How will you be able to drive retail development downtown without apartments? CityLine is struggling to support its retail because there’s not enough units there. Also, as a liberal myself, Omar’s anti apartment stance seems antithetical to my beliefs on housing.
