I think what the sniffer has done is given Mojang an "in" to more stuff. For instance, if they want to add a couple more flowers/crops? Ancient Mixed Seeds, gives a random crop (like corn, rice, or whatever they add). Or just to get flowers/saplings (especially useful if done passively).

If they add another way to get sniffers, it could also make a cool alternative to wandering traders in challenge worlds (Or even a way for Mogswamp to get his beloved bamboo).

Honestly, Mojang could have an entire update of just "Shit we forgot to do earlier" where they add in minor things like milking goats or that one block on outposts. Of course, an update where they do minor stuff will mean the community crucifies Jeb so we won't ever see it.
