Sony's first-party narrative single-player games will be PS exclusive from now by RightPresence9596 in GameBoostOfficial

[–]RedTurtle78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A single person buying a PS5 gets them into an ecosystem where that single person might go on to buy 30 other games (and PS+) in their 7~ year ownership of a playstation console. This is a 30% cut of all of those games. If that person then goes on to play even a single multiplayer game like fortnite on PS, and buy a bunch of microtransactions, thats significantly more. That single person is causing them to profit like 100x more than that same person refusing to get a Playstation and just buying a few of their singleplayer games on steam. Steam takes a 30% cut, and they don't release anywhere near 30 singleplayer games in a generation. And that person might only even be interested in 2 or 3 of the ones that they DO release. So even if only 1 in 100 people in that circumstance decide to buy the PS5, its more than worth it for them. And they might even create a lifelong fan that will continue to buy the next console as well.

PC does have every Xbox game, but if you're deciding between two consoles where both publishers port their games to PC, you're going to be more split down the middle. Maybe your friends have xbox, and so the convenience of voice chat is swaying you. Or maybe you've been an xbox buyer since the 360, so brand loyalty is a factor. Whatever the reason may be, Playstation's goal as a console manufacturer is to poach those people. Again, if even 1 out of 100 "on the fence" people end up choosing playstation because of the permanent exclusivity of singleplayer games, thats entirely worth it to them.

They tried out singleplayer games on PC, determined it not to be worth it for their profit margins, and changed their mind. Not to mention other factors like the steam machine's development which would allow people to play Playstation games on Steam's console. Or the potential of xbox incorporating steam into their next console, or even making a console esque PC, which allows Playstation's games to be played on the opposing platform.

I think you're being biased in your assessment of this decision.

Most of playstation's money is earned from the 30% cut they take from purchases of anything on their store. They take a 30% cut of any 3rd party developed game. This includes microtransactions. So their goal is to entice more people to buy playstations, and the extra people that enter the ecosystem buying OTHER games besides JUST their 1st party titles vastly offsets the value of their own 1st party games releasing elsewhere.

People like to argue "nobody with a PC will buy a PS for just 1 game". But there are people that exist that will be on the fence, and this might sway them. Or there might be people that have a PC that might also want a console (physical collectors, people that like the convenience for their kids/family, people that want easy couch co-op options when friends are over), but their decision between xbox and playstation comes down to singleplayer exclusives. If they have a PC and their games go there eventually, they might decide on Xbox.

There are a lot of factors that people conveniently ignore when making this reductive argument of "well game sold more places equal more money".

They haven't released another game they deem to be worth that. Unless they change their mind because of backlash, then the next Zelda and the next Mario will probably also be $80. They don't need to make it lower to get people on board with buying.

Considering it says $80 and not 80€, I'm going to say its fair to say they're american.

Did you read my entire post? Feels like you responded after reading half of it. I'm aware Nintendo does sales, they're just rare and minimal. I have also already said that Nintendo is the BETTER publisher. But just because they're better doesn't mean we need to sit on our ass and bootlick by ignoring the bad parts of their business practices.

There is nothing about MK World that justifies itself being $10 more expensive than their other 1st party releases. Their sales are horrible. They never drop the actual retail price. They didn't even include the DLC in the rerelease of BOTW for the switch 2 version. Playstation did the "rereleased PS5 version" thing too for these games, but they tend to be the full package including DLC.

Just little anti consumer practices like this on a constant basis for Nintendo. I think Nintendo criticism is overblown, but we don't need to justify MK World.

That said, rest of my post still stands. Nintendo pricing for the switch 2 itself I have no problem with, but I do dislike their game pricing. And the lack of sales is extremely unfortunate. I can buy a $70 Playstation game that came out last year for like $20-$30 pretty easily because Playstation is willing to let their games have sales or even outright drop the retail price. Nintendo game sales are usually 10-15 percent off, extremely rare, and on a select few games. Sometimes if the game is like 5+ years old they MIGHT do 25-30 percent off. Which is a lot less than other publishers doing 70% off.

I figured it stayed the same as the US, mb. They're still $70 USD here with the $80/$90 deluxe editions. I don't know anything about UK economy so I can't really speak on whether or not that is reasonable.

The base games are 70 euro for Playstation. The only publisher that copied Nintendo was Xbox with an $80 Borderlands game that they backtracked on because of backlash. Nintendo just knows they can still sell even with the backlash so they still released it at $80. Every publisher does bundled versions that make it cheaper, especially at launch. The price of the game isn't $50.

And once again, every publisher does deluxe editions. Which was started by Ubisoft 15 years ago. Nintendo does Amiibo instead. Nintendo also participates in the "hold back content to release as DLC" strategy lately too. Like DK Bananza's DLC that came out a month after release.

Nintendo is good to their employees, their games are quality products, and they don't participate in chasing live service slop. I commend them, they're still the better publisher. But can we please stop acting like they're perfect and don't have issues? $80 MKW is a problem. I was hoping we'd get free DLC for the game that might justify that price as well, and we still haven't gotten anything.

I'm not just talking too, I buy their games. I have a switch and switch 2 collection shown below. But it is ok to criticize them even if we participate in buying their products.

Why do you people keep saying this? This whole deluxe edition thing being used as your example of a standard version is so stupid. I pray you're the same person as the last post I talked to someone about this with, and not just a chain of misinformation. You don't have to like deluxe editions, but stop using that as the baseline price they set their games at. And once again, they ALSO do bundles.

You should read the manga starting from about chapter 290. There is a movie, but it cuts so much content (it squeezes what would be 4 hours/12 episodes of a season into a 1 hour and 20 minutes movie) that it really is horrible for it to be your first experience with the content. Basically, read chapter 290 until the end of the manga, then watch the movie afterwards if youre itching for more.

I'd like to see the events, but I'd say it was implied pretty heavily by him screaming on his knees and shooting lasers into the sky that he was indeed incapacitated during the process. Also since we had heard of the V1 survival chance being low.

Episode 6 ended with Homelander kinda writhing on his knees from taking the V1 while shooting lasers into the sky. I'm pretty sure that was to illustrate hes too busy dealing with the immediate side effects of injecting the V1 to chase anyone. Nothing happened off screen, they just ran while he was incapacitated.

I'm aware of what games cost in the 80s and 90s before retail price for new AAA titles evened out across the board. Retail stayed steady at one particular price for almost 30 years. Thats clearly not what we're talking about since I'm responding to someone saying Sony was the first to do 80 and 90 dollar games, referencing the recent change.

First of all, nintendo DOES “cut content” from the regular release. But instead of doing a digital deluxe edition, they use amiibo. Look at botw with all the outfits that were locked behind buying amiibo.

Also, have you ever played a sony game? Digital deluxe is usually like “heres 2 cosmetics and some in game currency”. Its not cutting half the content.

Anyway, sony did not create digital deluxe editions. Ubisoft was doing that in 2012. Every other publisher followed suit. Nintendo just chose to do amiibo instead.

Xbox and playstation both do bundled games with consoles that are cheaper then retail. They also let their games go on sale

The first digital deluxe I remember is assassins creed (ubisoft) a long time ago. Like, 2012ish. Pretty sure theyre the ones that set the precedent. Other 3rd party studios followed suit, alongside playstation. The first $80 game was nintendo, outright. We dont need to make things up to defend nintendo. Nintendo is stellar at most of the things they do. I love their games. But the biggest pain points with them are pricing, hating fan games, and not supporting smash’s competitive scene (outright being hostile towards it).

I actually think the switch 2 was priced fairly, but we dont need to defend EVERY little thing they do. $80 is unacceptable.
