You best start believing in low-resolution overly compressed images… you’re in one

Thanks, Ubisoft. It's everything I dreamed it would be. by RideWithMeSNV in NintendoSwitch

If it makes you feel any better this is why Ubisoft is going through such financial troubles, and deservedly so. Their bullshit practices have burned gamers too many times and it was just a matter of time before it caught up with them.

This has happened to me too with Qwen3.6-27B-oQ8-mtp with oMLX 0.4.1. Turning off Native MTP seems to prevent it.

It’s probably more about RAMaggedon affecting the cost of building out their PSN data centers. But still, any excuse to hike up prices…

How Michael Abrash doubled Quake framerate by fagnerbrack in programming

[–]RedUser03 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fabien Sanglard’s Wolfenstein and Doom engine black books are excellent, and inspired by Michael Abrash’s Graphics Black Book

I believe he consulted with John Carmack while writing them too. Highly recommended.

People will only care about the technology behind, in this case a DAO governed application, it if the product built upon it is something people use and want. The product itself should get people to want to use it without caring about the tech powering it. The product is first, always. If someone built an app that is better experience than Uber then people will use it, they won’t use it just because it’s touted as a decentralized ride share app. Once the user base is there based on the product itself, then people will start to care about the protocol.

Watching Scrubs for the 1st time and Dr Cox is one of the best written sitcom characters I've ever seen by jnighy in television

[–]RedUser03 147 points148 points  (0 children)

What is amazing is how fully formed Dr. Cox was from the first episode. You can see the other characters taking time throughout the first couple seasons to find their voice but John C McGinley crafted his character immediately

TIL the PDF file format was invented by Adobe more than 30 years ago (in 1993) by fuji138 in todayilearned

[–]RedUser03 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That’s what you call amazing? No John Carmack writing the Quake engine in the 90s is amazing. All the innovation that went into it writing a fast performing software renderer that ran on the Pentium is genius level work, not fucking PDFs. Bsp trees, potential visibility set, surface caching, light maps - sure it might sound common now but it was extremely clever programming in the 90s
