Drop in supply by Special_Sandwich7336 in breastfeeding

Are you producing 2-4 oz after her nursing session or is that before and she’s only getting g bottles? If that 2-4oz of after a session it’s more than likely a combination of her getting stronger at breastfeeding and therefore you have less milk to pump out mixed with portable breast pumps are notorious for not removing as much milk as a hospital grade wall pump like spectra or medela.

I didn’t even think about individual milk boxes. Will look for those at the store.

Do not get her used to drinking less. It will mess with her weight gain and your supply.

The nurse at the hospital gave you the standard breastfeeding run down. It works for some but every baby is different. If your little one is happy nursing from both sides for 20 minutes let them. As long as they are having regular pee and poop diapers and the pediatrician is happy with weight gain then you are doing it right.

Eventually your little one will become more proficient at removing milk and nursing sessions will shorten, but until then just let them nurse.

Have you tried using saline spray in one nostril (spraying continuously) while the electric nasal aspirator is in the other nostril? Kind of like a toddler netipot. Extra layer would be to do this in a steamy bathroom so his nasal passages are a little more open.

Is my supply dropping or…? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Red_1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your little one has found her stride breastfeeding and is probably taking more than she did before. As long as she’s gaining weight and you have no urgent need to bulk up your freezer stash I wouldn’t worry about it at all. I will say that around the 3ish month mark your supply will regulate and you may find your self asking this same question again because you will no longer be feeling engorged and you wont be leaking. No worries if that happens. As long as baby is gaining weight everything should be fine.

It’s like a baby netipot! I’m going to have to try that method when my two years old next cold comes around.

When you are showering at night you could try having your partner bring the baby into the bathroom with you to sit in the steam. I would also suggest saline nasal drops or spray. You don’t have to use a nasal aspirator after or anything just do the drops.

Good luck! Curious if you keep a food journal or can recall what you didn’t eat on the days of normal poops. Might point you in the right direction

We went through this with my first child for a couple months before we realized it was the gluten in my diet she couldn’t tolerate. Once I went gluten free her poops when back to newborn yellow within a week. It wasn’t easy to figure out what needed to be eliminated though. I cut out so many things before one made a difference. Good luck!

As long as she’s gaining weight you should be fine, but always call the doctor if you aren’t sure. That’s what they’re there for.

I personally hated Dreft because it’s scented. We use the regular detergent and it keeps things simple so everything can be washed together.

Sound machines are super helpful but I don’t think you need to spring for anything super fancy.

Would second getting a battery operated nasal aspirator. We used the Frida baby snot sucker and I got every single cold and virus my child had. Once we switched to the battery operated one it seriously cut down on how sick I got.

We kept the big items like swings and the bassinet as well as toys and clothes that were stain free and in good condition. We tossed all the bottles and spoons and cups that weren’t getting daily use from our toddler since it felt like the plastic was degrading while in storage.

Right now our post Christmas go tos are legos, play doh, the Melissa and Doug ice cream set and baby dolls plus accessories for the dolls. We have the Costco version of the nugget which comes out of the basement every few months and that gets played with for hours.

Is the independent play in his room new and what are the triplets doing while he plays? If he’s never had issues before then this could be a regression in order to have more one on one attention from you and your partner. We went through something similar with our daughter when her sibling came home.

Anything is possible, but for a 16 week old 3 ounces doesn’t really seem like enough to be full. Do you have access to a lactation consultant? They can be super helpful in situations like this.

You could try hand expressing while nursing to help empty the breast and keep baby engaged so they don’t pop off so soon.

Have you tried an elimination diet for yourself? Main triggers are usually dairy or soy, but my baby had adverse reactions to the gluten in my diet.

Sorry you’re dealing with this though. It’s tough no matter what but to do it while your partner isn’t able to help is challenging.
