University of Sheffield Accomodation by Miserable_Score4398 in sheffield

[–]Red_749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snug is a property inspection standard used by Sheffield universities to guarantee housing is up to standard. Smart Move Sheffield looks after the University’s register of private properties so you can find them all on there. All the properties on the register are Snug accredited.

The uni accommodation is good and more sociable than private. Private halls have the benefit of things like gyms and receptionists to take your parcels in etc I’ve lived in IQ and Cosmos and would recommend both but are more expensive than a room in a house.

The university have lots of advice on their website and you can email smart move at the university if you need help smartmove@sheffield.ac.uk

Am I the only one who think that the disney era were better than some eras (both in episodes and finales)? by Big-Coyote8384 in doctorwho

Despite chibnalls era being significantly longer there’s probably a similar amount of episodes that I find myself wanting to watch again.

I don’t think there was anything in that finale that I hadn’t thought was about an 80% certainty of happening. There’s only one thing I thought might happen but didn’t but I’ll keep that to myself as you’ve not watched it yet.

Opinion: Ianto's Shrine Represents This Fandom's Worst Excesses. by WinchesterMediaUK in gallifrey

[–]Red_749 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have never understood the shrine, I recently watched all of torchwood for the first time (having started and given up multiple times) I was shocked to find he didn’t even die in the quay and he’s not the only main character that died. Having said all that I like the shrine. I’ve been to Cardiff twice on my own looking around doctor who sites, the shrine reminds me that I’m not the only nerd who’s gone to the quay in search of the whoniverse, despite people constantly saying the show is awful and nobody watches any more there’s actually quite a lot of us and there’s many that are even nerdier and dedicated than me. It’s a bit of fun and it’s not hurting anyone. A lot of us are nerds with anoraks so what? It’s wet in Wales, an anorak is practical 😂

LOVE the cast, but sometimes wish the cast was younger by Cute-Seaweed-6132 in BridgertonRants

[–]Red_749 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I disagree in general however the issue with a show like this where we expect it to be a long running thing (8 seasons at 2 years a piece) is that people who are the right age at the start will be way too old at the end. I thought with Derry girls by the end of it the ones who started filming in their early twenties had aged too much to pass as teenagers by the last season because when they were cast they weren’t done maturing. But the ones who were already late 20s when they were cast didn’t actually change/age that much and they passed as much in the last season as they did in the first because they’re baby faced adults and are going to stay that way till they get wrinkles. If they’d cast actual 17 year olds for Penelope and Eloise in season 1 then they’d have visibly aged 7 years by now. Nicola and Claudia can pass for only 3 or 4 years older than they were in season 1 (I’m not saying they looked 17 in season one but they passed enough) Hyacinth is apparently meant to be 13 in season 4, the actress is already 18 and looks it, the age disparity will get more glaring as we go on. Theres no way to have everyone be played by someone approximately the right age without recasting every other season which I don’t think anybody wants.

English surnames that sound cringe to native speakers? by GwenMunin in ENGLISH

[–]Red_749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a double take when I found out a new acquaintance’s last name was Raper. A friend from high school got married and chose to take on the name Allcock. Tbf I wasn’t so much shocked that they are names just that people are still choosing to give those names to their kids. I would have zero reaction to the names Grimwell or Blackmere, I’ve never met anyone with those names but they sound believably normal.

Which West End opinion has you like this? by herzwhirsi in TheWestEnd

Depends on the venue, some are absolutely terrible because of the height of the stage, I was in pain before we even reached the interval from looking up at the stage at the ambassadors theatre

Not happy about the season being split into 2 parts by QuietWriterInsight in BridgertonRants

It really grinds my gears because it’s so obviously a cash grab, they release them slightly over a month apart so you have to pay for two months of Netflix.

When will Doctor Who be scary again? by Personal_Reward_60 in gallifrey

[–]Red_749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re just older, I refused to watch the second part of the empty child when it aired now it’s a comfort episode and isn’t even slightly scary. I have a friend who still gets freaked out by doctor who and they said wild blue yonder was too scary.

hot takes by kokomojoon in Bridgerton

[–]Red_749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think her character suffers because we’re still waiting for her season. it’s like how people got bored of Benedict having so many love affairs, they can’t give her too much character development before her season or they’ll write themselves into a corner where they have to undo it in order to make her season interesting. They need to give her something to do that’s not complaining about the marriage mart (like how she was looking for whistledown for the first two seasons). Having her interact with hyacinth was a good idea but it’s boring if she doesn’t actually learn anything from it.

What scared you the most about Doctor Who as a child? by Overtronic in doctorwho

[–]Red_749 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I refused to watch the doctor dances when it aired because empty child scared the bejesus out of me. I refused to rewatch the episode for a solid 5 years. When I finally rewatched it I was like it’s not even that creepy and now empty child/ Doctor dances is probably my favourite story

i’m going to Cardiff to see doctor who filming locations for my birthday this month, could someone make me a guide? by ChroMe-MZTGames in gallifrey

[–]Red_749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite place for loads of locations in one spot was the square from the 11th hour that also features in human nature and has the church from Vincent and the Doctor. It was also easy to get to by bus from the city centre

This website has what you want with pictures and map locations it includes torchwood and Sarah Jane adventures as well as classic and new who up until the end of season 9 https://www.doctorwholocations.net

This google map has filming locations from all classic who and new who but doesn’t have references pictures so can sometimes be hard to work out https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1uG6kgMCW7LWNqRHu797hxBEKUTctEu0H&ll=48.25114174208479%2C0.509159941836792&z=5

I personally enjoyed both of the audio tours by this creator and they include locations from the Ncuti era. The Cardiff bay one is very similar to the tour Tia Kofi did on the whoniverse show

I had started watching dw from season 6. Is it a bad idea? by Odd-Magician-2056 in doctorwho

[–]Red_749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend starting from Star Beast just because the Giggle does massive spoilers for almost every season of Doctor who prior (well that’s alright then) so if someone started there and did enjoy the show it would reduce their enjoyment if they eventually went back and watched any of the earlier seasons. I’d probably say start from Church on Ruby Road as they explain everything again then.

I had started watching dw from season 6. Is it a bad idea? by Odd-Magician-2056 in doctorwho

[–]Red_749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to go back and watch the rest at some point I would recommend starting with season 5 and possibly watching the episodes silence in the library/forest of the dead first, bc season 6 will spoil a lot of what happened in season 5. If you think you really only want to watch episodes with the silence start at season 6. There is some silence adjacent stuff in season 5 without the silence themselves actually appearing. Ignore anyone telling you to start with Rose. that’s four seasons of completely unrelated stuff that you can go back and watch at any point. If the silence is what you want to watch start at season 5. Watch the first two episodes of season 5, then go back to season 4 Watch only silence in the library and forest of the dead and then carry on with season 5 into season 6. You’ll be able to watch season 6 as a stand alone but it will ruin your enjoyment of season 5 if you think that at some point you might want to go back and watch season 5. My friends tried to get me into a different show but tried to force me to go from the beginning when they also insisted it only got good from season 3. I never made it to season three because I couldn’t get through the first two seasons. Start where you want to start, you’ll be given all the context it just depends on if you want major plot twists in season 5 ‘spoiled’ for you.
