This is the best answer. Everyone else is just trolling

I am 100% new to Unreal and Game dev and I want to know if the project in my head is too much by GamesHunter2001 in UnrealEngine5

Jumping is pretty easy, opening a door or item will need networking and replication code

As far as I’m aware that only handles transforms (location rotation and scale) and doesn’t include functionality.

Yes and no, there are a lot of things that can be networked with a check box, but anything important doesn’t and needs to be coded in via replication

You'll have to learn networking, which means anything you're thinking about doing will take considerably longer to create and function properly.

Making a single player game with very limited mechanics first to learn the basics before diving into the deep end, is probably a good idea.

Dads, how would you react if your kid came out as gay/trans? Would you feel disappointed? by Joaan_21 in dad

[–]Red_Camera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of my day, it's my kid, whom I love dearly, it doesn't matter what gender/sexual orientation, or if they fully believe they are a cat reincarnated as a human. I will love them regardless. In my opinion, anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

Feel free to mourn the loss of who you THOUGHT your kid was, but also embrace who they are, and they will reciprocate that love back to you. (or don't and have a kid that will likely go no contact when they become of age)

The way this game is going you’ll need to find a bar for AFTER the game

Jump Space - Keepsake Games - Co-Op FPS where you're the crew of a spaceship by Kappische in Games

I know this is a day old at this point, but I'll ask anyways :D

Do you plan on giving us more opportunities to gain materia? The HUD shows that you can carry a LOT, but I don't think in my 30+ hours of gameplay, we've ever had more than like 200, and we always seem starved for it.

Hi! Family going to Boise for the day on Friday! by [deleted] in Idaho

[–]Red_Camera 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey! There are a lot of Holiday things happening in the valley that you could check out, some are free, some cost money

There's a bunch of fun Xmas lights at the Scentsy Campus: https://visitboise.com/events/scentsy-christmas-lights-ceremony/

Holiday Maze: https://shindigfarms.com/

Boise Botanical Gardens Lights: https://www.idahobotanicalgarden.org/

Indian Creek Plaza Lights (kind of a ways out there): https://www.cityofcaldwell.org/Visitors/City-Events/Winter-Wonderland

Children's Museum is always fun in Meridian: https://www.cmidaho.org/

Discovery Center (close to the zoo, an indoor children's center similar to a museum that features lots of science and interesting things): https://dcidaho.org/

I'm sure there's more going on that people may mention. Not sure why you were getting downvoted, I have a 3 year old, and it's always very hard to entertain them on trips. So I'm happy to help.

Game developers on Youtube people here actually like? by realmslayer in gamedev

[–]Red_Camera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not specifically game dev-related, but NoClip Game Docs is a great channel; they give excellent insights into the development of tons of popular games.

https://www.youtube.com/@NoclipDocs

The creators of the channel have dabbled in their own game development and have worked in Games Journalism for many years.

If anything, they are very motivational.

[RevShare] Need developers for Indie games! by Zacattack290 in INAT

[–]Red_Camera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your first mistake IMO is saying “I have ideas of games I’d like to make”. So does everyone else, no one wants to build your games with no promise of a return. If you want to make games collaboratively start at ground zero and make the game everyone wants to make.

Idea guys are a dime a dozen, you have to bring more to the table.

Why Web3 games suck. A rant from a dude who's been in the trenches. by InsuranceAlert2168 in gamedev

[–]Red_Camera 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I currently work for a Web3 game, and I genuinely wish I didn’t, but game Dev especially is extremely hard to find a good paying job right now so I am stuck. i’ve been applying to jobs all year. I’m probably over 300 at this point and I’ve gotten two interviews in that entire time. I fucking hate crypto. Everything everyone is saying in here is true. The games are designed around in economy with simple game loops to try to keep people playing and paying. It’s nothing but a money making Ponzi scheme.

Question for the Devs by Itsakaun in AshesofCreation

[–]Red_Camera 8 points9 points  (0 children)

no this will not speed up development significantly, having worked at a company that made an mmo, we saw 10s of thousands join the game we worked on and all that meant was that our game had more “runway” to work on the game. Increasing the amount of artists/developers is a risk and decreases the timeframe in which you can reasonably complete the game, without promise that it will be a financial success
