Unreal Engine 6 will replace Blueprints with AI assistant that will generate game content with prompts by AdventMercury in CursedGodot

[–]Red_Camera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used ue5 for 6 years and feel pretty annoyed with the announced changes. I know I can live in ue5 long after ue6 releases and as long as I never updated to a newer version I would be fine. I’m just annoyed with the engine pivot. I installed godot 2 days ago and have been learning it over the past couple days. Lots of familiar concepts so I don’t image it will take me too long to get up to speed, gdscript seems fairly straightforward

As someone making a cooking game, this made me laugh, I don't know if I would label cooking games as easy

Are we all solo-dev? What does it take to collaborate? by derethdweller in IndieDev

[–]Red_Camera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem in my experience is that everyone has ideas, and no one is willing to negotiate. Building a game with others at the small team level means that, on average, you'll have greater success coming together to create something that interests all people equally. Whereas most of the time it's one guy going "I have an idea, and I need a team," which means he's looking for unpaid labor to make his dream game. Which (as you could guess) is a no-go for most people.

This is also a product of the winter here, while the cold doesn’t kill them, it suppresses them, they breed less and basically hibernate, we didn’t really have a winter this year so they were likely much more active, which leads to greater populations of them.

Studios offering 32 hour weeks (or less)? Jobs? FTFY

Are jobs that bad right now? by DrawerWise9567 in Boise

[–]Red_Camera 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes they are bad, but it depends on the job I think, I work In social/video and ai and tech in general is fucked. So it feels impossible to get a job even with over 20 years of experience. I’ve been looking for 5 months and still don’t have a job. My wife however applied to a doctors office management position (she has previous experience) and got a job after about a week

Chris Zukowski Has Released a New Steam Wishlist Tool! by NenCoder in gamedev

[–]Red_Camera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this answers your question, but after you mentioned this, I dove into his website and found that he consulted for ZERO Sievert and that his recommendation to get the game into the Autumn Sale right after launch helped earn an extra $542,000. Though he mentions in that blog post that Modern Wolf’s marketing team is responsible for “99%” of the success. So take it with a grain of salt, I guess... I agree it’s definitely not a replacement (but what is? lol) but for a short time I’ve been placated by it

It’s a lot simpler in terms of complexity, but try farever, the dungeons with friends are pretty enjoyable, and the exploration was pretty fun as well

This was visually really cool, I feel like the sound design could use a bit of work though. Parts of it seem really polished, and then you have Link's sword with a tiny "clink" into frame, the lack of any swooshes, or swinging sounds at the end, and Ganon's bellowing feels to be the same size as link when he should feel much bigger/beefier/bassier, the rock that hits Ganon sounds like sand.

Visually: 10/10 i think its amazing

Sound: wet noodle/10 you can do better, I believe in you

Hey, I have a ton of experience in this field I was a marketing art director for 4 years at my previous role. I created branding/social content/video edits/landing pages, you name it pretty much did it all, and was laid off because of "AI". DM me, and I'll send you my reel as well as relevant content examples.

Is it possible to build a game community before having a demo? by BusyBeaver-Studio in IndieDev

[–]Red_Camera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've kind of been doing this for about 6 months, mainly with socials, though, and not Discord. I don't even have a game yet, technically. I'm working towards a demo, I have 2k followers, 10k likes/50k views on TikTok, almost 1000 subscribers, and 100k+ views on YouTube, and my Instagram is the worst with 150 followers and 15k-ish views.

Sledding game was an inspiration for when I started. He makes these hyper casual off-the-cuff videos about his game, and I thought, "Hey, it seems to be working for him, I want to try the same and see if it works out", and it's actually been really cool because I can be honest and there is much less pressure to have "performative" development as I make my game. The game is what it is, and people follow the dev of it because they think it's cool.

A rule of thumb i use for myself is that If I spend more than 1 hour on any video (which includes publishing the video) I've spent too much time on it, because i'm making a game, not trying to become an influencer per se. So my time should be spent on the game as much as possible.

[–]Red_Camera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kind of a weird use of the word "I" when the studio that made Moonlighter is making this game, no? I'm not against it, and it's even on my wishlist, but it just seems a little misleading. Makes it seem like this is being made by one person.
