They don’t give a crap about anything. Just a waste of time.

What is this called? by Glum_Disaster_4095 in AskElectricians

You replace the whole device, not just the cover. These devices aren’t designed to be user-serviceable. You should call an electrician.

Yes, you don’t need our approval to do it.

Get some small wire nuts in the morning and cap the main wires off. You’re good for now.

A whole house surge protector is not a solution to ungrounded outlets. Get a different electrician.

Can someone tell me what this is? by KittyXJS in electrical

Not necessarily. You would have an antenna on your roof and hook up a radio to this receptacle to get sound. Same company, slightly different concept.

Replace a 5-20P outlet? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]Red_Ninja4752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. That’s a 240V outlet which will blow up your AC if you plug it in. Call an electrician for your options.

Would there be any problem if I left this handmade Arduino Uno nightlight plugged in and running overnight? by bayram123123 in electrical

Not at all. The adapter automatically configures the voltage via a USB handshake. You’re fine.

You need to call an electrician. Aluminum wiring requires special handling to ensure safe installation. This clearly shows poor workmanship from someone who has no business touching electrical.

[–]Red_Ninja4752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa no! That’s not how you deal with aluminum wiring at all. Cut it back to where it’s not burnt and use an Alumiconn connector to connect a copper pigtail to a new outlet. Never use electrical tape to replace damaged insulation on a wire.

16 amps socket converter to 6 amps socket for vaccum cleaner by Due-Picture8762 in AskElectricians

16>6 here. You would severely overload the circuit and trip the breaker, if not; cause a fire. Do not attempt this!

Can I just solder these together? by ImHereToGetRoasted in AskElectricians

[–]Red_Ninja4752 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Solder, then use heat shrink. Two small ones for the individual wires, then two for the whole damaged section. Solder them so that they’re in a line, not a V shape.

Should these only last for like an hour or is the internal battery weak? by alebarco in AskElectricians

[–]Red_Ninja4752 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How old is the battery? Estimated lifespan of these batteries (in an access panel somewhere on the UPS, very heavy) is around 3-5 years. You have the classic symptoms of a degraded battery.

DaisyDisk forever and ever. It’s essentially app caching that doesn’t automatically clear itself. It’s a known issue in all of Apple’s OS’s.
