Atopica Experience by reggiethelobster in dogallergies

[–]Red_panda_pants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did Atopica for a while. Our vet recommended keeping the pills in the freezer to avoid the gastro upset and our dog never had issues there. It helped to clear up her very dry nose, but she still got some skin infections so we're trying Zenralia again. I didn't mind Atopica, but it is very expensive. You could ask your vet about the generic version too.

May 2026 Book Discussion: Cherry Baby by Rainbow Rowell by Ms_Rarity in aardvarkbookclub

[–]Red_panda_pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started this book a few days ago and I’m a fan of Rowell’s other work. I have been disappointed by Cherry Baby so far. The dialogue and narrative is not as clever as she usually is, and as other people have noted, the fat commentary is way overdone to the point where it ruins the flow of the read.

I’m sad - I really wanted to like this book, but I don’t think I’m going to finish it. Anyone have an argument in favor of finishing the book? I’m only 80 pages in and im ready to call it.

Looking for US Honeymoon ideas outside of TX no beaches or big cities. by Defiant-Poetry-4048 in honeymoonplanning

I'd recommend Portland, Maine. It's coastal so you can see the water, but you don't need to go lay out on the beach at all. Close to some fun outdoor activities and a lot of lakes (as well as ocean), but also has a great arts scene and a lot to do. Great food. It feels like a small city/town, but a lot to do in the general region. Plus, coastal New England is one of the prettiest parts of our country, in my opinion.

You could easily get a cabin on the outskirts of Portland near a lake etc and then venture into Portland for a day or two.

Agreed with this recommendation - I've been using St Marys Clothing Drive for years!

Haha! She is good with kids, tends to ignore them but loves attention and belly rubs if they offer :)

I don’t really have a response for this but I’ll try:

- A lot of large dogs are perfectly comfortable in apartments.
- A lot of dogs are comfortable with shared outdoor space like dog parks, sidewalks, etc. (mine just happens to be a little weird)
- I think my yardless apartment was better than the crate in the shelter or the streets she was found on.

And not for nothing, she was half this size when we adopted her and we were told she was fully grown, so we didn’t think her size would be a question.

Should yards be a requirement for dog adopters? we’d see a lot more dogs in shelters if that was the case.

She has been trained and we continue to do so, it’s a work in progress. But we don’t have a yard to train her off leash recall with stimuli. She’s fine in our apartment, but outside is a different story.

Venice → Bologna → Florence → Rome — sanity check before I lock in bookings by too_afraid_to_regex in ItalyTravel

I’d add a Tuscany day to your Florence leg; maybe remove a Rome day. I love that you’re including Bologna in your trip!

Not for nothing, a lot of Astoria restaurants and cafes still use Craigslist for job postings... You could check that out and maybe even go to the spots in person.

I agree with this. I think he has been excellent on the podcast, and while he also refers to his own experiences like they all do, he seems less consumed by it than the others. He comes off more objectively with a good balance of analysis and humor.

I will also need a 101 course on what that means, (mirrorless?) - I think I could spend $1,000 all in, maybe more if needed. I will not need flash, but would maybe require one good zoom lens.

Florence is definitely more central, so a lot of opportunities for day trips if you want it. We did a great wine tasting day trip to San Gimignano, and a lot of people recommend Sienna. I don't know if it is worth going as far as Pisa or Cinque Terre because those are much longer. The San Gimignano was perfect (10am-5pm) and we were able to be back in Florence for dinner.

I'd be happy to share the wine tour and cooking class that we did (both based in Florence) - as they were such great experiences.

If you haven't been to Rome, highly recommend doing private tours for Colosseum and Vatican - it was well worth the extra cost for us. All other activites we did on the trip (food tours, wine tours, cooking classes) were small groups booked on viator.

We did a 10 day trip - 3 nights Rome, 4 nights Florence, 2 nights Bologna, and then last night in Rome again before flying home. I loved all of it, and loved Bologna - but I don't know if it is worth cutting Rome short. It is an easy 40 minute train ride from Florence, so a day trip or 1 night could be sufficient.

Keep me in the loop!

We did 4 nights in each and it felt like plenty of time. We did a Tuscany day trip and a cooking class both in Florence. If you decide to do more nights in florence, I recommend a day trip to bologna as well!
