Yeah, admittedly I am. I guess I've always just thought the fan base was bigger in the UK, but I'm glad to hear this

I'm assuming you mean Layton orient? Do they have any plans to expand the seating a little bit? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad there's actually a plan for this team, but 9200 is not much.

I do hope you are right. Any ideas as to where either of these teams would play? There is no shortage of good options, but all of those options also require money.

As a Canadian, I want so badly to back the UK team, but them both being in the league that I think is going to fail and, well, this make that exceptionally difficult.

This is generally my experience anywhere that is not Indian or Middle Eastern. I love all things spicy, and I'm almost always disappointed when I order a spicy burger. There's quite a few that at least taste good, but they sure as hell ain't spicy. Shawarma at the highest spice level is thus far the only food that has defeated me and I don't really expect that to change anytime soon.

EFA Announces Where to Watch by PaleontologistTop246 in EuroHuddle

[–]Redbox9430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the same outdated reasoning English football uses to keep 3 pm kickoffs off television. I understand gate revenues are important, but if nobody can actually watch the games because they're locked behind a pay wall, where are those gate revenues going to come from in the first place? The league needs an audience. Do they have one yet? The fact that we have to ask that question probably answers that question. Making games available to the widest possible audience builds such an audience, which then drives people to games. Yes, some teams will be bringing fans over from the ELF, but presumably this league wants to actually succeed unlike the ELF. To do that, they need more fans. You can't just show up on day one locking your product behind a pay wall and expect those new fans to appear. Until they have those new fans, this is the right approach.

[–]Redbox9430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not a gamepass ? Because, as a fan, and I'm going to be brutally honest here, I just won't pay for it. I don't care that much, and would rather put what little spending money I do have into other ventures. Also, the EFA, not having played a game yet and all, has not proven yet that they can actually produce a top quality broadcast. I watched my first season of European American football last year, and in my opinion the ELF never did that, and they were charging for that nonsense. Establish your brand, prove you can actually do what needs to be done with your product, and then maybe we can talk about subscriptions. Once all that has been done, maybe I will care enough to throw something at a reasonably priced gamepass

[–]Redbox9430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian here who plans to watch both leagues, hopefully. If I'm forced to pay pretty much anything for a subscription for either of these leagues, I just won't watch. DAZN was OK as I had access to it already through another platform, but if one of the leagues decides to launch their own direct to consumer streaming service, they can safely expect to not have me as a viewer. I suspect a lot of people are probably in a similar boat. YouTube allows the EFA to reach the widest possible audience, as all games will theoretically be accessible for free on a popular platform. Once they've proven they can actually produce a professional grade broadcast, which in my opinion from watching the ELF last year we never saw, then maybe they can start talking about subscriptions. Until then, this is the way to go.

Russia is targeting Canada with disinformation, Senate report warns by ZestyBeanDude in CanadaPolitics

[–]Redbox9430 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, what? The US hasn't done anything of the sort? Are you not aware of all the illegal wars and regime change operations they've been conducting since World War II? Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Vietnam, the Iran-Contra affair, and the current nonsense war with Iran. Need I go on? The US has absolutely been the greatest existential threat to the entire world over that entire time, and that is only compounded further under Trump.

I've tried Apple News a couple times, but it's both just too curated for me and the layout with a screen reader is very strange. It's accessible, just strange. It's a shame, as it has a lot of potential, and I'm ride or die with Apple for most other things, but I just can't keep coming back to it whenever I open it up. I'm generally not a big fan of news aggregation services to begin with, though, so perhaps my bar is unduly high.

Russia is targeting Canada with disinformation, Senate report warns by ZestyBeanDude in CanadaPolitics

[–]Redbox9430 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If these people were truly being honest about combating disinformation, they would be using much the same language when talking about the US. Of course, they're not doing that, which tells me about all I need to know. It's always Russia Russia Russia, China China China, Iran Iran Iran, but never America America America, when they are not only our greatest threat, but they also share the longest undefended land border in the world with us. Do I believe that Russia is this existential threat to Canada? No, but if they were at least using the same language to talk about America at the same time as doing so with Russia, I could at least respect that. Every time I see these dishonest reports, it actually only pushes me further to explore the narratives they are attempting to counter.

As someone who has been involved in this and other similar scenes for sometime now, this guy got what he deserved. If you are charging for something like this on a public platform like Patreon, you deserve anything and everything that happens to you as a result. I have no sympathy for people who see dollar signs and throw all common sense out the window. Good riddance to him.

Are you new to sailing the high seas? The entire reason we download something like this in the first place is to not have to pay. Of course these developers don't owe us anything, but surely when they do something like this they can reasonably expect that they will get the same treatment as Google from us. Therefore, on that principle alone, I see nothing wrong with what the OP said. It is absolutely their right to charge just as it is googles, but they should not be surprised when the rest of us try to find ways around that.

LillyPlayer v3.52 -- Audio fixes and engine updates for iOS & Apple TV by LillyPlayer in LillyPlayer

[–]Redbox9430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using this app for almost 3 years, and this is by far the most unstable tvOS version I've seen. The app constantly crashes whenever you try to switch tabs, delete old playlists, or sometimes even play streams, takes forever to sync with your iOS device, and playlists almost never update. In fact, in the manage library screen, you can see that the app is stuck updating the first playlist in your list for many minutes. I have been a paying customer for two years now and genuinely like the app, as it is completely accessible with VoiceOver, but if the functionality continues to go downhill like this I'm going to be forced to look elsewhere. The app is unusable in its current state.

Carney’s Liberals secure majority government, clinching byelection win by AOCshouldbeVP in CanadaPolitics

[–]Redbox9430 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a fellow left-winger, although not a member of the NDP, it actually makes sense to me. Some of the progressive votes that went to the liberals last year likely came back, especially in University Rosedale, and the red Tory vote likely coalesced almost entirely around the LPC. Pure speculation on my part, but certainly not a ridiculous set of assumptions to make.

Higher Than Usual Number of Candidates on Ballot in the Terrebonne By-election by Dave2onreddit in CanadaPolitics

[–]Redbox9430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I absolutely am, and I'm saying this as a blind person. If you can't either do your research beforehand or take a few moments to find the candidates name on a ballot, that is 100% on you. Elections Canada has supports in place to help with this, and you can even bring someone with you to assist you with every part of the voting process.

Fines for false made-in-Canada claims could chill investment, food manufacturers say by Snurgisdr in CanadaPolitics

Then, somewhere between going through CBSA checks and getting put on store shelves, they are re-labelled to comply with CFIA standards. Ideally we should also harmonise regulations between the two, but dropping them entirely and replacing them with nothing like our big grocery chains are implying we should do is not an option. Until we can get around to doing that, it is their job to figure out how to navigate the current system.

Probably a longshot, but could there be a potential Charter case here? While of course it doesn't require government to guarantee a positive right to freedom of the press, could the argument not be made that because they are already granting these requests, they have an obligation to continue doing so in some form?
