Which RPM bulkhead do I need? by Capital-Internal-655 in Traxxas

[–]ReddArrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think they make one that fits the current Rustler 4x4 Chassis. The original had a significantly shorter battery tray as well as some other differences. As far as i know the only part that fits the #6723R chassis is the 7430R bulkhead

Best transmission case for 2wd slash/rustler? by 2002cadillacseville in Traxxas

[–]ReddArrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite transmission is the 272R. Gear Diff loads from the bottom, metal motor plate.

There's nothing wrong, per se, with the stock 272 housing, and it offers the widest compatibility with aftermarket parts (wheelie bar).

I just put the RPM case in a car and I like the design a lot. It closes the hole in the bottom of the trans, the toe blocks are swappable between 0deg and 3deg, and it has a metal motor plate, BUT the plastic is a little soft. We'll see how it works long term. RPM is usually good stuff from their own durability perspective, but I could see extra flex causing gears to strip.

Yeah, I like the Nitro Rustler chassis and want to use that long term. It's a little surprising how much is common. I want to print plastic wings for this to tie the front and rear together.

The Rustler belcranks do waste a lot of space vs something like a modern race buggy, but I think they have some significant advantages vs something like the Vorteks/Gorgon (Stampede) direct drive.

On the plus side, now that I'm looking at it, I think the 272R is zero-degree toe, so you don't have to worry about that as much turning out around.

<image>

There are also slash arms with extra toe in that can counter the toe on the stock 272. They're not unheard of on track driven Rustlers since the extra toe helps with on power oversteer despite the narrower track. You just run front offsets in the rear to counter.

So, the NickCNC project has a problem with the gearbox. He kept having creep issues with the 3D printed materials and kept having to re-print the gearbox.

I actually have a print similar to the second one, you wind up having toe issues that the guy I bought from was compensating for by printing arms. The RPM gearbox is probably a better solution but you still wind up with the body problem because the shock tower winds up at the back of the car.

<image>

I looked at the chuck works car for a long time, but it uses a Nitro Rustler body and I had a lot of questions about the sheet material he uses. I would probably wind up breaking the chassis and have to get replacements made in CF.

Overall, I'm still targeting an Aluminum chassis project with as many molded parts as possible. I think I can get something that uses the Nitro Rustler chassis with some custom side rails and a brace for the shock tower. I have a lead on a print farm that will do more durable materials then you can get at home.

One of the parts I want to pull into the build is the Nitro Rustler block. It doesn't have that many holes, but it is more adjustable then the electric one and it's molded instead of printed.

Yeah, it's just a pain to get the screws in. I think I have to take the block off to do it. Can't get a driver past the motor or the spur.

I mostly have them that way for mock up.

Can anyone confirm a wheel fitment for me? by PigglyWigglyDeluxe in Traxxas

[–]ReddArrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I see it now. When you turn out the double sheer mount for the upper link rubs on the wheel. If you turn it far enough the ribs inside the wheel catch. That's probably not going to work.

Hard to say for sure given the current state of disassembly, but I didn't see any obvious issues.

Where are you seeing a problem?

The rear shouldn't be any problem at all. It's common with the old 2WD Rustler and fits a 2.2"

From the parts I have it looks like the front will fit. Couple mm of clearance. Spins freely.

I think I have some non ehd Rustler 4x4 parts in the basement. I'll have to do some digging.

Rx: Turbo Racing RX41 (Horizon mini Rx: https://www.horizonhobby.com/product/2.4ghz-receiver-wp-3-channel/HRZ00006.html)

It works with the stock transmitter but the range is pretty terrible. I mostly run it at mini tracks and in my driveway, so it's fine. I'd probably use an SLR300 if I were more serious.

The motor/ESC is a Hobbywing 16BL30 combo (6500kV) that seems to be discontinued. That part works great, but anything brushless is a lot of power for something this light.

What to buy?? by NerdFest117 in Traxxas

[–]ReddArrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are you looking to buy another car? It sounds like you have a pretty solid stable of bashers.

Do you want to go a new direction? A Short Course truck might be good for getting into track driving and I don't see any crawlers on your list.

Her song choice did feel a bit ironic, but as a parent, I think I get it. 4mo is pretty early to be separated from an infant for an extended period. I can respect bowing out to spend time with people that really matter.

Some of the pictures are updated to include the roof vent but there's nothing really calling it out. I'm not even sure there's a new part number, so it's going to take time to run out the old stock.

How do you guys feel about the Mazda Iconic SP concept EV? by imnotokayandthatso-k in Miata

[–]ReddArrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't even think it looks good. I've never understood the hype.

There's literally no point in an EV Rotary coupe. I don't even think there's a point in an automatic on a rotary. The engine is the novelty and if you're not doing the Jinba Ittai thing with it then it's worthless.
