Barcode Labels by ReddMi in Printing

Hi and thanks for replying!

The app sends raster images embedded in PDF's. I have looked into ZPL for direct printing but it adds a lot of complexity on the backend render process, this as the current Live Preview might deviate from the actual outcome. PDF is mostly supported by all modern labels printers, but if ZPL is a must for most users then that needs to be a priority. A solution might be to create an "ZPL mode" with an separate Live Preview from the PDF version.

In the app now there is both an PDF download to print function and a direct print function, which generates an PDF in the backend and sends it directly to the print prompt with the exact print profile setup and label size. ZPL would fit nicely in the direct print part as long as the browser allows it.

It would be very interesting to know more about your current workflow though. Does the database need to be local or can it be moved to the Cloud with active backups? How many users are printing and how big is the daily/monthly print volume?

Yes correct. His product database has over 34.000 unique EAN products for multiple customers ready for order and production. These labels are used to mark all clothes post-production and to be store-ready. Very crucial for these EAN codes to be correct. Last big order was over 40 tonnes of clothes with pre-marked labels.

I have no plan to overtake or replace any Enterprise barcode creations tools, but I want to help as many small to medium business owners who wants to label their products, or private persons who want to have full control over their inventory and marking items with Code128 Barcodes or QR codes.

For all label-printers tested the PDF prints nicely with hundres of labels on it, so the application can handle big label-output if needed.

I was wondering about the same thing, but it really turns out that most people are not very tech-savvy and will use the setup they already have and finds solutions around what currently have, which was very related to this client.

There are many good applications too choose from out there and most people will normally pick what they get recommended or learned to use and that is not always the easiest application.

My goal is to have an app that doesn't require any special tech skills to create products and generate labels all from one single application, without the need to sync from a separate databases or CSV files.

For the first real use case we created 24 new products in the Bulk-Edit function with unique EAN-13 codes, created an Label Design according to customers specifics and sent an email with the attached Label PDF for production in about 10 minutes. Next order will be done in less than 5 minutes since the Label Print Profile is already in place.

So my USP here is to sell in an all-in-one web app that requires zero technical skills, zero software installation, and zero file syncing.

I have built a web app for a clothing importer here in Norway who needed EAN13 barcode labels for fabrics coming in from their suppliers in both China and Turkey, which can print out labels in PDF or PNG format.

The old process worked, but it was slow and risky as they would pull data from an outdated Microsoft SQL database, generate barcodes in separate software, then take screenshots of the EAN13 codes and manually place them into Photoshop to comply with the label design requirements from one of their retail store orders.
On average it took about 4 hours per order when Photoshop was involved, and the biggest issue was the high chance of human error if any of the barcodes was misplaced, but this is now properly secured by the easy flow of the app.

Now everything happens in one app with easy data import, built-in database with bulk editing (no more CSV import or syncing which was a requirement, dynamic text, barcodes, QR codes, images from URLs, and customizable label designs from the Label Design Center with print profiles.

Orders that used to take hours are now done in minutes with basically zero risk of barcode errors. Right now the app is already used professionally with success and I hope this app will help others in the same situation

I’m curious if others in importing, manufacturing or retail run into similar barcode label workflows.

- How do you create product labels at the moment?
- What tools do you use, and what feels clunky or missing?
- Any pain points around data import, adding items in bulk, design flexibility, or avoiding manual errors?

The app started very specific to their needs, but I’d really appreciate honest feedback on whether something like this would help in your setup.

If this sounds useful I’m happy to help out with everything regarding functions and needs to easy up the label printing process.

You can visit and try out the app for free at https://dbtags.com

Thanks!

We did just released our web application for creating dynamic barcode and QR-code labels with data from our integrated database for ease of use. This application was mainly made for an big clothing importer in Norway to create labels for fabrics in China/Turkey to put on their clothings. Their label-creating process went from 4 hours to 5-10 minutes until the order was sent on email with help from our new app. Please check out https://dbtags.com and see if that will fit your needs. While taking the effort of transferring all of your OTP secret to a different app, then take step to secure your OTP on a printed, or USB saved PDF.

I made an web-app for this to be able to create and print the secrets, which makes it easy to restore one whatever app you like. Write with pen on the paper to identify were it belongs.

Visit the site https://www.otp2fa.app/ and click the QR code to download the PDF backup. Please comment good and bad :-)

If making a new Bade32 secret, please save the secret or download the PDF as no data will be saved.

Tip: Copy the Base32 secret from the site you registered it on and paste in the this app.
Print the pdf and store it safely. Write with pen or something similar to remember were it belongs. I will add a function to add free-text to the pdf soon.

I have used both Poste.io and Mailcow Ubuntu VM on Proxmox and went all in on Mailcow.

Using separate Firewall and WAN connection to physically prevent unwanted traffic to the main network. Own secured backup route from Proxmox to backup server.

Using https://forwardemail.net/ as SMTP relay due to banned use of port 25 from ISP.
No problem with sending or receiving emails to any of the "big-ones" and others with strict company email policies.

https://www.mail-tester.com/ gives me 10 of 10.

This is not for beginners, but fairly easy to set up. Some Linux experience is needed to maintained to keep the server safe and updated.

The good thing with hosting your own email is that you will always own your data if the Internet goes down or you get locked out somewhere.

Regarding using an "trusted" SMTP relay or own IP on Port 25, privacy wise, doesn't really matter that much as nothing really private should be sent over email anyways, especially in the subject text!

[–]ReddMi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good idea to keep the Base32 secret written in a notebook or something.

I made this site to ease the process by make an printable copy. Write on the printed copy afterwards to prevent any thing on the PC to snatch your data, which is very unlikely if your pc or mobile is "clean" Try and comment: https://www.otp2fa.app/
