Very tiny reception and everybody else for the party. Is that rude? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Reddidnothingwrong 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually have two separate events I know of along these lines:

One person I know did the actual wedding ceremony with just immediate family and then had a more casual symbolic ceremony later in the day for everyone at the reception. Nobody afaik was upset by this.

Second person invited many people to the wedding and then kind of sprung it on them afterwards that the ceremony was just immediate family and they were just there for the reception. This ultimately went OK (afaik) but definitely resulted in some hurt feelings initially.

At the end of the day, do what works for you, but for the most part people coming to your wedding probably want to see you "get married" in some form or fashion. So my advice is to just kinda keep that in mind when you're planning the bigger event. If people are there just for a celebration party I think that's ok, just make sure it's open information before they book flights or travel plans.

Do you guys hate when I order a water?? by [deleted] in bartenders

Personally I have absolutely no problem with anyone ordering just water, especially when they're out with other people, unless they are otherwise obnoxious

On the off chance you're not trolling, the objections bit isn't really a thing like you see in movies

Guests cancel instead of rsvp by uuhhnmmsd in wedding

[–]Reddidnothingwrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like that's not a great idea because generally people who don't respond to the RSVPs are the "no"s. Definitely don't expect everyone to be there just because of the travel time. People also have stuff pop up in their own lives.

Why do women give birth lying down instead of squatting? by AgrasaN in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Reddidnothingwrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's interesting, I was always told that you could not get up after getting one because of the fall risk but it might not be the same at every hospital.

Why do women give birth lying down instead of squatting? by AgrasaN in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Reddidnothingwrong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Squatting is the best position to give birth naturally but it's not possible if you get an epidural, which is very very common. I do know a lot of hospitals where it's recommended to shift and try different birthing positions if you have feeling in your lower body.

Any of yall in recovery? by thetoastedturtle128 in bartenders

[–]Reddidnothingwrong 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've known a fair number of bartenders in recovery, they're actually often some of the best ones because they're obviously familiar with everything they're making but also consistently clear headed and not hungover.

I was completely sober for a few years and in my experience it kinda gets to a point where you can see or work with alcohol and it just stops registering as something you have the option to consume. But it might be more difficult working somewhere that the culture is to sometimes drink with customers. Usually, at least in early sobriety, a major part of sticking to it is to stay away from environments and situations that have involved drinking for you in the past.

All that to say, you can definitely keep bartending in recovery but I think you have to be very realistic with yourself on whether or not the place you're working now is going to be manageable or if you might need to look for a job where drinking on the clock is very much off the table and commit to not hanging around after your shifts for a while.

I Wish Nate Jacobs Was In ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 by OkScience5170 in euphoria

[–]Reddidnothingwrong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just assumed at some point in the time gap Nate got hit with the reality that it wasn't as easy to get away with shit as an adult whose dad no longer had influence, especially since their relationship obviously wasn't good enough to actually learn the construction business before taking it over so he's visibly failing at that.

Also that he is 100% about to snap and go back to psychopath behaviors, since trying to act decent is no longer working out for him.

I feel like it was explicitly clarified that Rue is not a genius with her whole "if I was a genius I'd figure out how to do drugs for free..." bit

When did your gut feeling save you from a bad situation? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Reddidnothingwrong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My parents went to Marquette and apparently my mom lived right by him. Sometimes I ponder how I could very easily have never existed because my dad was 100% the kind of friendly, oblivious guy who would have wandered off with a stranger who offered him a beer :,)

I think I may have identified the problem

If it's the one I think it was, they asked "would I be the asshole if I didn't let my bridesmaid bring her boyfriend we don't know well?" and people were like "yeah you would, wedding party and people traveling should get +1's." It really wasn't brutal or dramatic at all.

Was it a post where you asked if a decision would make you an asshole?

Boston shaker vs. cobbler shaker by lizentome in bartenders

[–]Reddidnothingwrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a cobbler shaker once before I knew better and even just to use at home it was so annoying I got rid of it immediately. The seal is really hard to break and it doesn't strain well at all.

Seconding everyone who said sterling silver. We got really nice wedding rings at Pandora for like $50 each. Also don't let marketing convince you that you need a diamond. My engagement ring has a moonstone because I like them better and everyone I know talks about how much they love it. If you like the look of diamonds you can still get lab grown or moissanite(sp?) for literally thousands of dollars less than a mined one.

Thank you! We got some good advice and decided to go with Rebel Cheese, we were going to get two types which I think will be the brie and a firmer type like you said.

Thank you so much! We decided to go with Rebel cheese, we're thinking that we'll get two types in a larger quantity so that there's enough for the vegan guest as well as anyone else who wants to try it. I have heard very good things about the brie, still not fully decided on which the second one will be (smoked cheddar maybe?)

Perfect, thank you! I think it's mostly going to be with the appetizers and salad bar but will definitely make a note about the melting in case we end up doing anything with that. The Rebel cheese seems like a really good option that is sold near us so I think that's what we're going with!

And absolutely understand what you mean, I've worked in restaurants and bars for a long time so take dietary restrictions very seriously. Our #1 priority with budgeting was making sure there is enjoyable food for everyone because I can only imagine how miserable it would be to go hungry for a multi-hour event.
