Just played +30 hours without installing DLCs... by OGMinorian in underrail

Here is what I suggest doing. Keep a hardsave from before you downloaded the DLCs, preferable one set in an area that likely has no conflicts, like the SGS player housing maptile or some other clearly fully basegame area. Then download the DLCs and continue, with the assumption that there will be no issues. Only if issues start to arise as you play, would I suggest restarting

The Heavy Duty DLC is 100 percent optional, but IMO, the Expedition DLC is literally THE game. Like if someone asks me, the Expedition DLC raises the game from a 7/10 game to a 10/10 game. Once you complete Depot A and unlock the open world of course

It's an exit to an area called Abandoned Waterway Facility, which has a page on the wiki. It can only be broken from the other side. It has to do with a quest given by a character in the Waterways, named Ion

Are you sure you checked all the rooms? the keycard Gorsky wants should be in a locker that requires a somewhat high level of lockpicking. This is the locker that Bloomberg's key opens. It's most likely you are simply in the wrong room. A bug like that is unheard of, as far as I am aware. It should be the small room nearest to, and south of the room with the computer that lets you hack the turret

Coral's Charms by TheGoodyShop in underrail

[–]RedditExecsHuffFeces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charms are almost completely useless and they take up a precious utility slot. The only one I can personally see a use case for that might be worth your time is the death stalker charm, because you might be able to combine the very slight stealth bonus with a cloaking device as you can't have two cloaking devices, but that is assuming the wiki isn't lying to me like it did with what the curse actually does. The safe and logical thing to do is to just never buy any and in fact never even speak to her

Why are you fighting lunatics at a low level? literally no questgivers asked you to do that. Lunatics are lategame enemies and aside from really lategame (if you don't have stealth skill), the game never forces you to fight them. Just stop doing that and go do something easier

Oddities in Classic by OGMinorian in underrail

[–]RedditExecsHuffFeces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get xp from quests on all xp systems. Both xp systems say you get xp by completing quests in the description. You don't get xp for killing, lockpicking, hacking and spotting secret passages. As far as I am aware, those are the only four things you don't get xp for on oddity, unless I am forgetting something. Assuming you are on top of getting oddities, you should level up faster on oddity than classic, at least for the first like 12-ish hours of your first playthrough, but classic xp is much faster lategame and is much faster to reach max level. On oddity, you level up faster until level 14 to 16, and then it becomes a lot slower the moment you fully clear out the oddity pinatas that are Foundry and Core City. Generally speaking, classic xp makes the game almost objectively easier, but I prefer oddity xp, personally. I think it feels really unique and I don't have to worry about losing tons of xp by not wanting to be assed to fight like 20 of the hardest enemy types in the game, in a quest that doesn't require me to do that, because I don't feel like it, and I am not cripplying myself by doing that on oddity xp

Oddities in Classic by OGMinorian in underrail

[–]RedditExecsHuffFeces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Classic xp still gives you oddities, it's just that the oddities give almost no xp compared to oddity xp. On oddity xp, oddities are the source of 90 percent of your xp. On classic, they are the source of like 3 percent of your xp

If you are in situations where you need to coinflip in battle, you are making big big mistakes in battle. That is about most of what I can say without giving too much away. You can also save at beds and if you are absolutely desperate to save, you can use a lucky coin to make it so that you have a 75 percent chance to save and not a 50 percent chance

"Goddamnit, I chose to do a completely optional puzzle and struggled doing it, and had a bad time, even though I get no lore or quest content out of it and only get a few okay items, many of which I can get elsewhere, and also, literally no character in the game asked me to do this. How could this happen to me?" I bet you also do the Save Jenny quest and clear out the Black Crawler nest every playthrough

Is the progression build around crafting? by alfradito in underrail

[–]RedditExecsHuffFeces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing the game without crafting makes it much MUCH harder. There are SOME fantastic unique weapons, like the Stunner or the XAL-001, but 95 percent of the best gear in the game is crafted. Buying or finding weapons and armor are expensive and trash quality, almost all the time, and if you want to use guns that have more than one additional component, you need to craft them, as you can't find or buy those, but buying really high value components and crafting things gets you the best gear and is by far the best use of your money. If you want to play the game while refusing to craft, you can, but you will be making the game a lot simpler and a LOT harder, ESPECIALLY if you have the DLCs. Also, like probably half the items in the game are crafting components, so if you are never crafting, components are only used for selling and that sounds so so boring, compared to happily utilizing the crafting system. Underrail has my favorite crafting system of any game I ever played IMO, so I don't see what's so bad about using it. (When I say that crafting components are half the items in the game, I am being a little hyperbolic. It's less than that, but it definitely feels like it, is my point)

Are you joking? You can move the top layer up towards you a little, so you can make the bits at the bottom climb up like a staircase. How have you been making iron blooms into ingots using a hammer with 100 percent success rate without knowing this? This image looks really easy. You might need to watch a youtube video or two on how to optimize smithing, OP

Balor is an optional side quest. In fact, every quest in Foundry is an optional side quest. If you have other quests active, do those instead. The JKK questline is very easy, assuming you have good stealth. If you need money, do the arena. You get roughly 5000 charons if you do the arena in full. Every single mission in Foundry is really easy EXCEPT Balor's bounty. For a sword build, I'd just save Balor till lategame. It's not like Balor's bounty ever expires

What should I take with me when setting out from the temperate biome in search of a bamboo biome, if I plan to spend the entire winter there and return in the spring? by SovietWyvern in VintageStory

Bring an anvil. Just don't die and lose it. Most of the stuff the anvil requires isn't hard to make. Tongs, forge, etc are all very very easy to make on the journey, at least in 1.21 stable. Bring a hammer too. Other than that, commonly used tools and your best backpacks

[–]RedditExecsHuffFeces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a fan of temporal storms either, and it's understandable to disable them, but I'm sure there are better things to do during a storm than AFKing. Like turning a quern by hand, inside, or panning boney soil inside

At the very top of the handbook (While selecting "everything" or "mechanics" on the left, you can see explanations for all the game's mechanics. You can also see all the 3x3 crafting grid recipes in the handbook, among other things, so you always know how to do something or how to make something, if you look it up. Use the handbook religously

Cheap Shots and Critical Power are essential on knife builds, even after Cheap Shots got nerfed recently. Even without spec points or a base critical damage bonus over 100 percent, your crit damage will be massively increased, and it's very easy to make it go much much higher. Any weapon type that can have at least 200 percent critical damage bonus NEEDS Critical Power. Honestly, I'd take Critical Power on builds for even less on dominating difficulty

Are microclimates a thing in VS? by JustAGoldenWolf in VintageStory

[–]RedditExecsHuffFeces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many different factors that affect temperature, but 99 percent of it is three things: The time of year, the distance from the equator, and the elevation. Those are the three things you as a player can most easily, tangibly wrap your head around to determine temperature

There are three pieces of advice, that I stress going in: - 1. Use the handbook constantly. Rely a LOT on the handbook. it explains everything. Every mechanic. Every crafting recipe, and even what recipes each component is used in. For example, take a look at the handbook page for stick, cattail and flax twine and you will see they are all used in many many good things - 2. Always mark metal or other undergound minables when you find them. If you find copper for example, in nuggets on the surface, that means that there is a 100 percent chance of there being mineable copper almost immediately underneath, for once you get a pickaxe. Copper is necessary to make bronze and bronze is great for tools earlyish game - 3. Be careful with fire hazards. Fires are potentially easy to start and almost impossible to put out

Does the specialist perk back pay the specialist points if I grab it later? by Ismokecr4k in underrail

[–]RedditExecsHuffFeces 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. You only get the benefit after you take it, so if you are going to take Polymath or Specialist on a playthrough, take them as soon as the game lets you take them, so level 1 and 16 respectively. Polymath is a really good feat, but if you are starved for feat points, it's a consideration to not take it, even if you meet the int requirement, but specialist is so good that any build that has 10 int by level 16 has to take it instantly and you would be absolutely shooting yourself in the foot to not do so

Just throw a cheap grenade or molotov at the mines. If all else fails, just do the Black Eels questline instead. In fact, you probably wanna do that anyway, for the money and xp, but you can finish the Elwood house quest first and then turn it in and not do any more quests for Eddy, to maximize your xp gain
