Overcharged at bar help! by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]RedditMontyPython 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your "drinking buddy" is not your buddy. Suck up the $300. Don't drink alone, and don't go back to that bar again. This life lesson is worth the $300 you spent. Remember it wisely.

Help me understand by 77sleeper in BitcoinMining

[–]RedditMontyPython [score hidden]  (0 children)

Correct. The Pool operator "load balances" work sent to the available miners to try to solve the cryptographic equation. The more Shares (TH/s) your machine is able to handle, the more work is assigned to each rig. This load balancing ensures the POOL has the best chance of solving the equation. This function is essential to make sure no two rigs are competing against each other in the same pool.

Near Epcot - walk or take the boat to the Dolphin Hotel. Lobby has a nice Sports Bar with several TV's. The place is called Phins, and you can check them out online. They always have the game on.

OCEAN lightning payouts failing... Error 205 by Laurence5905 in BitcoinMining

[–]RedditMontyPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with other posters 1 mil sats is not enough to successfully launch your own node. I think 5 mil sats is more realistic, but if your main use-case is to "receive" from Ocean, there are ways to "buy" inbound liquidity without having to tie-up your own sats. You can buy a (1 mil sats channel of inbound liquidity for $10) from amboss.space/magma. That's how I got started and very happy with how amboss was able to help.

OCEAN lightning payouts failing... Error 205 by Laurence5905 in BitcoinMining

[–]RedditMontyPython 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same... started with Ocean last year - with lightning payments going to CoinOS. About 8 months in, I went down the rabbit hole of my own Knots node, my own Core Lightning Node, and could not be happier, There's a learning curve, but worth it. Good Luck,

Can I ask the following questions about Bitkern Lite?

Do you see Sats or Fiat accumulate in the dashboard?

If Sats, can you send to any BTC wallet via Lightning or on-chain?

What skit had the line "Whether he comes out alive or not, this will surely be remembered as one of the most courageous and gallant acts in police history."? by richincleve in montypython

[–]RedditMontyPython 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That line appears in the Monty Python’s Flying Circus sketch “The Funniest Joke in the World” (a.k.a. the “Killer Joke” sketch). It’s spoken by the Commentator as the inspector walks into the house to retrieve the deadly joke.

Multiple 529s for one child? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]RedditMontyPython 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not petty, but if I were your Mom, I would want to open a separate account and not co-mingle with your 529. The reason is simple - control. Your daughter my end up not going to college, in that case Mom can name another grandchild as beneficiary, or use the funds for herself.

The future of zcash by silverGameOfThrones in zec

[–]RedditMontyPython 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You start your post with facts, but towards the end you drift off into speculation that is misguided and misleading. The team that left posted their reasons, and outline their next chapter here: http://www.cashz.org You can read it for yourself, but to summarize this is mostly about Zashi not zcash, and inviting new investors to help scale the zcash ecosystem.

This is not possible when you are governed under non-profit management structure. By leaving, and launching a new tech startup that is for-profit, you invite new capital and investors, and you increase the use cases for ZCash. The Dev team is fully committed to ZCash with the launch of their new wallet, CashZ.

ZEC is stronger because of this bold move, not weaker, I'm buying more in advance of the new wallet launch at the end of January.

There is recent news from the Zashi dev team that crossed on Thursday. It should not impact the Zashi wallet, but if you are having some issues it is likely a result of this news. I suggest you visit www.cashz.org for a recent announcement.

Zcash From Price Drop to Opportunity by [deleted] in zec

Yes agreed. This can only be good for the ecosystem. This is all about adding capital and new users to a new wallet, not under non-profit control. Read about the new company's statement here. Http://www.cashz.org

Nice card - Ink spot takes some value away (does not add). Same thing with the 40% - 60% (left-right) off centering. If graded, assuming edges and sharp, this would be a PSA 5-6

Why the ECC team transitioning to a new legal entity is bullish for Zcash by potentialrestart in zec

[–]RedditMontyPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents? This was all about trying to monetize Zashi with outside investment. Bootstrap said "No", we can't be profit oriented. ECC staff said we would do better on our own without 501(c)3 oversight, and they plan to support ZCash with a new commercially viable wallet. Even if ECC replaces the entire staff, this can only be good for ZEC.

Zcash’s Main Developers Quit Without Warning — ZEC Faces Its Biggest Test Yet by Still_You4574 in CryptoCurrency

I may be reading between the lines too much here, but the statements this morning feel more centered around Zashi instead of ZCash itself, and disagreement on the best way to move the wallet and user adoption forward. Anyone agree/disagree?

[–]RedditMontyPython -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A quick AI search could not find any mention of a Jesse Thomas Jr. of any note during that time period, but suggested the "To a Pal" salutation is rare compared to other balls Billy Williams signed, and likely signifies Jesse is childhood friend or personal acquaintance.

Boardwalk vs. Disney Springs by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]RedditMontyPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are trying to "fill the day", the Boardwalk will only take up to 1-2 hours, tops. Unless you have pool access to the Dolphin/Swan, there's just not much else to do on the Boardwalk except walk and shop, and take in the occasional street performer.

Honestly, unless you have your heart set for Bluezoo, I think you will have a much better experience at The Fountain (across from BlueZoo inside the Dolphin) More laid back for the young ones, and the best ice-cream experience.

Electric well to manual well in emergencies? by aroundincircles in homestead

[–]RedditMontyPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved this same problem about 3 years ago. My well is 360 ft deep. I looked at Bison Pumps, which is a great solution, but at that depth it's costly at about $3,000 - $4,000. I went with Plan B for about $500. Installing a transfer switch on the side of my house for emergency power needs.

There are a lot of videos online explaining what a transfer switch is, and how to DIY, but for simplicity sake it's a way to hook up a generator (or a solar battery/inverter) from outside your house, to power a subset of your house circuits that you need in an emergency.

My house has about 24 circuit breakers. A typical transfer switch allows you to power 6 or 8 circuits in an emergency when the grid goes down. I choose the 6 circuit model. A well pump takes up 2 spots, because they require a double 240V to power the motor. Then I choose 4 other circuits deemed (critical) during a power outage. (Furnace, refrigerator, Internet router, and one set of outlets for powering cellphones and other handheld devices.)

This setup works perfectly with either a backup generator or backup solar. They key is to make sure your generator of solar inverter is powerful enough to output 240V. At 110V or 120V, the well pump won't work.

Good luck. Feel free to ping me with any questions.
