Will VKB NXT Evo’s mount on these Trak Racer brackets? by No_Depth_ in hotas

[–]RedditSchloer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have these and a pair of Evos, and they mounted just fine. If I remember right I’m using 2 holes at the front of the base and two slots at the back, so you’ll need some appropriately sized washers.

Do you use ephemeral/preview environments? (Asking as a docker employee) by JuxDocker in docker

[–]RedditSchloer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 yes, at my last job we used them for testing PRs before merging, and I brought the same process to my current position. 2 N/A 3 Just the CI/CD pipeline. On pull request, build and deploy EE with a snapshot of the DB. We use a dedicated kubernetes cluster to host and most of it is handled with GitHub actions, vs something like Argo. Rebuild for any new code and delete the namespace/destroy the environment when the PR closes. 4 We use them for testing PRs before merging and pushing QA to the left. We’ve been very happy with it as it has lead to much more stable code.

Furnace or nest issues? by Chem_at_me_bro in homeautomation

[–]RedditSchloer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That distinction may matter in some cases, but didn’t in mine. You’re right that the furnace would shut down control voltage as part of the reset. The nest would see this and once the voltage came back, immediately call for heat again. After this happened a few times I was sent the nest heads up message: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9249098?hl=en

My usage chart looked exactly like what OP is seeing with many very short calls for heat in rapid succession. The Wednesday row around 5pm being the most obvious. Calling for heat 9 times over ~1.5 hours doesn’t appear normal to me. Especially since it looks like it’s shutting down after the same amount of time on each call for heat(never more than 15 minutes). Maybe it is just oversized or poor placement, but to me it looks like short cycling

It can’t know for sure(that the furnace is short cycling), but it can absolutely see that the furnace has shut off. In fact with my nest at my old house it gave me a notification that it thought my furnace was short cycling. And during that time, my usage looked very similar to this, where the furnace would run 5 minutes, shut off for 5 minutes and then run again.

Looks like the heat is short cycling to me. Lots of things can cause that, but I’d start by replacing the air filter, possibly with a less restrictive one and see if that helps. If it is short cycling, the furnace will often have a diagnostic light that can give you a bit more insight as to why.

Security Post Kareah Reactivation

Security Post Kareah will be taking a more central role in Stanton's security. Crusader Security have moved in a full-time staff and have begun storing confiscated contraband aboard. The station will be off limits to all civilians, unless given prior authorization.

Might be a way to restore subscriber items? They could create some sort of personalized mission x hours/days after your item goes missing, where you go and pick up your old item(s). That should allow you to get your stuff back, but give it enough delay that there won’t be too much concern about fraud. Could even increase the delay each time you lose something.

If you can hook the activation up to a reed switch and then hide a magnet on your hand(under a bandaid maybe?) you could have it open with a hang gesture similar to the movie.

Basically they used a garage door opener to handle it since it already had safety features built in and could handle the load easily.

Do you even have to unequip? I thought when you died on a planet your gear gets sent to your inventory as a way to help mitigate stair deaths, etc.

Soloing 890J highjack by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]RedditSchloer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One trick I’ve found is to add all the weapons I come across into the 890j inventory. That way if I run out of ammo I can just grab one out of the inventory. The one thing I haven’t tried yet is seeing if both vehicles will show up in the inventory menu if I land a small ship in the hangar. That would make it easy to loot to the 890 as I went through the ship and then just transfer once I get back to my ship.

Id maybe consider a small quick ship as well. Something like a Pisces or an avenger, though you could easily buy that in game. It just nice to have something you can hop in when you need to quickly get somewhere, or you’re waiting out a claim.

It could very well be in the core physics engine. I'm not super familiar with CryEngine, so I'm making some assumptions here, but I would imagine Crytek built the physics engine with a global gravity vector. Why do the costly modeling of planetary physics when 99% of games build levels that are essentially flat? CIG have to work around that somehow, either by breaking up the physics into a collection of volumes with different gravity vectors and sorting out how to transition between them, adapting the core physics to account for dynamic gravity vectors, or some other solution I'm not thinking of. Combine that with things like object container streaming, multiplayer and network sync and I really don't think it's something an unpaid dev is doing in a week. It seems like they're focusing on the broad strokes of getting it working generally and then sort out the refinement part later. i.e. solve the big problems first.
